Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 2

What I meant was is that Jake isn't the typical go-to-guy of Hollywood. He's more low-key. Sure, we know him, but don't know him from a lot when compared to most. Some films he made are quite memorable, while a lot of others aren't. And his personal life has been uneventful, making him pretty much a hermit to the public eye.

Older: Jake Gyllenhaal
Younger: Christopher Abbott

The next Batman can either be a good adaptation of the character, or a continuation of Affleck's Batman; he can't be both.

I still don't get WB's obsession with trying to appease Affleck. Supposedly, they offered him the opportunity to direct Flashpoint. I get that he's a respected director in Hollywood, but so far, he has been the only actor to play Batman in more than one critically panned film. People can make fun of Bale's Bat-voice and hate on Chris Nolan all they want, but the fact remains that those movies were well-received and financially successful. Affleck and Snyder have dragged Batman back down into the gutter and any future episodes with him in the role are likely to get a similar reception.

WB, cut your losses and move on. Aside from all 12 of the "Release the Snyder Cut" crowd, no one is clamoring for Ben put on his Bat-bodycast again.

I though this thread was supposed to be about casting Bruce Wayne/Batman not bashing on Christain Bale's Batman voice (which honestly is never as bad as it's made out to be)

Given what Reeves is allegedly going for, I’d rather see a suit that utilises similar functions from the Arkham games, which end up aiding Batman in the field of his detective work. Should the suit be more high-tec because of that, or will he rely more on his utility belt than ever before?
I just want to see a suit that complements him as a detective first and foremost.

Affleck’s suit worked more for the brawler-type his version of Batman was.

Bale’s Begins suit fitted in with the story. Other than that, I didn’t care much for it.

So, I'm thinking about someone like Luke Evans since we in da castin' tread

Well, as far as we know(for now), Reeves' Batman will still be in the DCEU, regardless of who plays him.

So are you trying to say that having a new actor playing Batman in the same universe would overcome those hurdles? I thought people had more problems with Snyder than Affleck?

Yeah, even if Reeves’ Batman movie is intended to be in the same continuity as Affleck’s Batman, I think people might have an easier time accepting it because it would (potentially) be easier to ignore the bad movies. If Affleck sticks around, I think people will still be thinking of the infamous “Martha” scene, as well as plenty of other lousy moments from those movies (even some that don’t feature Batman). A new cast allows people to kind of pretend those movies didn’t happen, even if it’s not a reboot.

Saving face. One of the exposes on Justice League mentioned that a bunch of people at WB wanted Snyder gone after BVS, but the higher-ups stuck with him not because they believed in his vision, but because it'd be embarrassing and damaging to have the supposed head of the DCEU get canned. This is no different. They want to keep Affleck around because if he walks, it'll just fuel the popular perception that the DCEU is a sinking ship.

Anyway, back to casting, I'm curious as to what people think about physique. Do you think the actor necessarily needs to be bulky and huge, or lean and mean?

Somewhere between Cavill’s physique in MOS and Bale’s in BB.

I'd like them to go leaner.

I don't think there will be much choice. Everyone has physical limits. Even a yoked up Gyllenhaal (Southpaw) is "slimmer" compared to Ben's frame.

I’ll cut the guy some slack considering he was already done filming and lord knows how much they reshot

Time to move on from him though. He clearly wants out. Oblige him, I say.

Yeah, JG is a pretty slim dude. Overall, it doesn't really matter to me how slim the actor is, cause the Batsuit will be able to hide a lot of that. Think about an actor in the BvS suit, that's as tall as Affleck, but slim like JG. I think it would look a lot better, as Affleck is a wider/beefier guy.

As for that pic above with Affleck, he doesn't look that bad. He's just wearing a puffy coat, and his arms are to the side, so it looks like he's fat, but he looks normal to me.

That's the BATMAN we deserve. But just worried he may not desire a trilogy. That may not be over until 2025 at earliest. Being snubbed for his recent film, though he may decide to do another blockbuster now.

*Thinking back to Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader*
He can be a good continuation to a bad take on the character.

Batfleck's physique (or the Batsuit's physique) was huge and I love myself a huge Batman, but somehow he didn't look very aesthetically pleasing to be honest. There were only some instances where he looked great. Other times, he just looked sort of bloated and uncomfortable. I don't know where the problem lies, since there are so many big muscular movie characters who look nice.

So yeah I'd like a leaner Batman this time. Bale's physique was about perfect but the suit didn't show any of it unfortunately.

Gyllenhaal or bust. Anyone else besides Ryan Gosling would be a disappointment.

Gosling's a great actor (and he was pretty much perfect for the Blade Runner role), but there's just absolutely zero intimidating about that guy.

Sure, Gyllenhaal's a bit of a pretty boy, but he has that dark & unstable sort of vibe about him too, and has done some physical type of roles before.

Gosling snarling at someone and threatening to break a few of their bones would be pretty laughable though. :oldrazz:

Gosling could do a Barry Allen, but we already have a Flash.
