Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 2

I saw B&R as a 9 year old and loved it. I still like some parts of it. It was a total popcorn flick, but should have easily cleared $300 million worldwide.

anyone know how much it would have needed to break even?

Casting Schwarzenegger probably ate up 1/4th of the budget. Batman didn't need his starpower. Wasn't Patrick Stewart supposedly up for the role?

The Shumacher movies are complete trash.

Etc.

Besides, there's a decent Batman story in Forever somewhere, despite the many flaws. Kinda always resembled TDKR in that way for me, that same "I see what you were going for, but it doesn't really work" thing going on.

*Shrugs* The 60s show and half of the comics over the years are "trash", too. Doesn't make 'em not worthwhile, or enjoyable & entertaining. Or just as worthy a place in the Batman sphere as the Nolan stuff. Same goes for the Schumacher flicks, they're a product of the time, it is what it is. Music is the change between notes, not the notes themselves, life's the same, hakuna matata and all that.

Unpucker ye butthole, kind sir.

Where else would you find a bank safe in a high floor heist filled with boiling acid, and of all the ones to be robbed this is the exact one Two-Face chooses? You can never beat this iconic nonsense with neon colored machine guns that ends up being unusually delightful.

Plot-wise, the Schumacher films aren’t dissimilar to most MCU outings.

All comic book movies suck except for like 5. It's a crappy genre that rarely takes chances and I would be done with it if it wasn't for Black Panther's potential and the curiosity that I have when it comes to Reeves' take on Batman. I'm praying for the day this genre goes to bed.

Hahah yeaaaah what triggered me was the talk about The Batman not being in production for another couple of years. And the thought of Gyllenhaal possibly not doing it. Like, do I care to wait that long? I'll wait but do i care enough to talk about it on a forum for two years before any photos even surface? Honestly, the answer is no. And after The Last Jedi and pretty much every other blockbuster that didn't wow me in 2017, I just don't care about action movies/CBM's anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel turns Black Panther and Avengers into some safe crap.

All I gotta say now is, thank god for Deadpool, cuz I bet he's gonna make fun of this bad genre in the best ways imaginable.

You're a hardcore one, you are.

"Safe" is a funny term, too. Hell, Begins was "safe", it's still awesome. The "riskiest" Bat-flicks would be Returns, The Dark Knight, and Batman V.S. Superman, and pretty clearly that only worked out for one of them (even if Returns is awesome in its own way).

Love the petulant need to go on this random "MCU kiddie schlock for t3h sheeple" tangent every other post, too. Comes of all just so totally mature & comfortable in your own skin.

Nolan's Batman. What are the other two films?

Black Panther will be much of the same, so prepare to be disappointed and don't go near it.

I love Ryan Coogler so I'm hoping he adds his own touch to it.

Logan. The fifth would be a tie between movies that are not great in my opinion but are entertaining (Batman, Deadpool, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man 2, Winter Soldier). None of them are great so I'll settle with 4.

Begins was safe? In what world? In 2005 it wasn't. Don't let the origin fool you. Batmans origin was never told before. It was made by the director of Memento and the star of American Psycho. It was dark, mature, earnest. No other movie in the genre approached batman or any superhero in that manner. Surrounded by veteran ACTORS who were used well, with their own arcs. All of that after 8 years of deafening silence due to brand damage. It was extremely risky.

It has no soul? Then why am I more emotionally invested in that movie than the previous two? Also, I don't care about "good batman movies", I simply want a good movie. TDKR is that for me. To me it IS a good batman movie though. What Bruce and Batman go through, the ending is earned, I couldn't ask for a better batman story/conclusion.

Yes that what I said.
I don't know, why are you?
I'd be happy with a good movie if it was a "good" movie. Didn't even have good action aside from the football stadium and explosions.

...For You.
hahahaha!

God, we need some f***ing news now, because this is insufferable.

Okay.

No offense Shauner, but why then do you post on a superhero message board? I totally understand why people think the genre sucks, but then why waste your time on a site dedicated to it? Like, I think the rom-com genre is terrible but I wouldn't spend my time on a rom-com message board, you know? I'm not telling you to go away, I just don't understand what you get out of this.

You don't have to understand it, just experience it and then forget it.

Curious, but why do you even post here?

I don't wanna say shaunner is a comic book fan phony but...

Because i wasn't always feeling this way about the genre, but more importantly i come here to discuss the superhero movies that i DO love, with some folks who i've come to respect. These threads are usually fun while we wait for the announcement, but i don't see it happening for a long time so i'll stick to a few threads that i enjoy.

Why am i? Because it has tons of soul and emotion.

The batpod chase scenes were excellent, so was the prologue. Even the chase at the end with Talia packed a punch.

I don't read comics anymore. My love for film is far greater than any comic book character, including Batman (my all time fav). I can care less about comics anymore, other than screenwriters/directors making sure that the characterization is on point. The essentials i mean. Outside of that, i want to see edgy material or i have no use for it.
