Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 3

I think they realize how many times they have announced movies that end up not panning out, and have said they wanted to focus on the next three releases before over promising anything else. Also, I'm sure anything Batman would have overshadowed the other films spotlighted. Especially if they announced Ben was gone.

Yep. We might get news in a few months, but if they'd announced it here, Batman would have definitely overshadowed the huge wins Warner Bros got in selling Aquaman and Shazam.

This movie is probably 3 years away anyway, honestly. The whole Affleck situation doesn't matter to Reeves though? If he reportedly wants a younger Batman...

I wouldnt be surprised if we hear who's playing Penguin before we hear who the new Batman is gonna be :hehe:

Sigh... Sad but true.

I'm thinking/hoping this will start shooting Spring/Summer of next year. We had a Batman-less SDCC this year, but next year we'll presumably get stuff for The Batman, BoP, and Joker at a minimum, all of which have ties to the Batman world.

I'm starting to think that Affleck won't be returning...which I'm really bummed about. I really wanted a BvS style Batman for an entire film.

So, you want it to be unpopular and not be successful at the box office? Interesting take.

I don’t think he can. He’s just off his rocker with everything DC related.

Reminds me of the old school ‘08-‘09 Nolan fans.

I think David Mazouz will be old enough to play a young Bruce by the time this starts filming :funny:

I'm sure someone already said it but Justin Theroux?

If they were aiming to remain in Affleck's age range, I'd say abso-f***ing-lutely.

You really can't help yourself.

Aha. So you guys think an Affleck led Batman movie (you know, the guy who played Batman in one movie that everybody hated, and one that bombed at the box office) where he murders people would be a success? Lol. Good luck with that

WB/Reeves/Affleck need to get round a table and make a decision, this is getting ridiculous. All 3 parties cannot get on with shaping the film until that decision is met. Get on with it people !!!! :argh:

Pretty sure the decision has already been made (if the rumors about the movie being about a younger Batman are true). If Matt Reeves is framing his script around a younger Batman, that doesn't really leave room for Ben. I suppose they could just use the same script for Ben if a 180 happens and just take out any references to his age or where he is in his career?

What if Batfleck cameo'd and bookend the movie, almost like Bruce is retelling his story then the sequels from then on just focused on younger bats? a semi retcon, connection as it were? Would people accept that?

But then what does that mean for present day Batman stories? What if they want to do a JL movie again in 5 years? Would they just use the younger actor?

I feel like they should just make a clear decision one way or the other. They have 3-ish options I think:

1. Have Ben stay, just make the movies post JL and go on like nothing happened.

2. Make the movies "prequels" in that they never take place after events of MoS etc. Age up younger actor to look like he's in his 40s.

3. Recast with an actor close enough to Ben's age that it's not super jarring, but young enough that he would be willing/able to stick around for the next 5-10 years worth of movies.

I don't like the bookend/prequel idea because it just creates more questions about Ben's status.

If it were up to me, I would go with scenario #3 if Ben truly is out. I really think they could just recast the role and just make the movie without saying outright "this takes place 15 years before the events of BvS." Planting it somewhere far in the past just creates more issues when/if they want this Batman to cross over with the other characters again. If the movie/the actor is great, will people really care about Affleck or no Affleck anymore?

No. Affleck isn't old enough for something like that unless they are casting someone who as like, 18. It would just come off forced.

Tyler Hoechlin would have been a great Bruce Wayne...

Yeah, I get the sense that they're just being unusually discreet with the particulars.

If Wes Bentley naturally oozes serial killer, Hoechlin naturally oozes werewolf.

They're both very reminiscent of the Bruce Wayne from Batman: Earth One, or analogous comic book depictions in general. It's the menacing eyebrows on top of the other obvious similarities (e.g., light eyes, near-black hair, sharp features).

I think he'd be a good fit for Thomas Wayne assuming that JDM isn't courted to reprise the role (and that's becoming more unlikely with each passing day, to be honest).
