Eh, Dwayne Johnson and Dave Bautista are outliers. Most wrestlers suck at real acting. Look at some of Hulk Hogan's films in the 1990s, lol. Or the times Steve Austin tried to start a movie career.
John Cena's OK.

Kevin Nash was good in that 04 Punisher. Granted, he wasn't talking.

Fair enough. Forgot about Cena; he is good.

As for Nash... well...

On Affleck: I don’t doubt he could have done a good job in a different movie, but he signed off on Snyder’s horrible vision, and rightly condemned himself to the response he got.

On Pattinson: I’m sure WB will go with whoever Reeves wants. And Pattinson has a better reputation than Affleck, even with Twilight. As others have said, he’s going to be in the next Nolan, which will probably wipe away any lingering issues about his suitability.

Yeah Pattinson totally has a better reputation than the Academy Award winning director.

Everyone knows Affleck is a good director. Is the acting part that made everyone go "eh"

So what? How does that give Pattinson a better reputation? What I can say in Pattinson's favor is that the dude seems to have a fairly good head on his shoulders. He's generally kept a low profile since Twilight and doesn't really get into trouble or make an ass out of himself in the public or social media. I mean getting thrust into stardom at a young age like he did with Twilight can destroy your career and life in the long run, and that didn't really happen to him and I respect him for that even though I care naught for those films.

At the same time, none of that gives him a better reputation for Affleck who is an Academy Award winning writer and director. How many Oscars and Golden Globes does Pattinson have?

Not to be that person, but Ben Affleck's never even been nominated for Best Director at the Oscars. His film won Best Picture, so he got one as a producer, and he got one for co-writing Good Will Hunting.

Pattinson's got a rep these days as a very good actor who does interesting roles. Affleck never had that as an actor, which is why his move behind the camera was the smartest move of his career.

No, but he's still an Academy Award winning filmmaker.

To say Affleck never had that is a misnomer.

Gone Girl, The Town, Argo, Hollywoodland. To say he's never had that is a misnomer. Those are all acclaimed films he starred in.

Starring in acclaimed films =/= acclaimed performances. Affleck was always a weak actor, and was never known for a single great performance. Gone Girl was one of the only times I remember one of his performances getting widespread praise, but even then it was highly overshadowed by Pike's. Let's put it this way - he was never in danger of becoming an Oscar-winning actor, lol. At the rate Pattinson's going, he very well could.

That comes down to opinion. I remember Affleck getting a lot of positive buzz for his performance as George Reeves and his performances in films like The Town and Gone Girl. So once again, so say he's never had acclaimed performances that were well received by critics is just flat out wrong.

What is Pattinson doing lately that's so acclaimed? His movie Damsel didn't especially get great reviews. I thought he did fine in Lost City of Z, but he was playing second fiddle there to Charlie Hunnam. But I'd hardly call it some tour de force award winning turn.

You make it sound like Pattinson is the next Christian Bale. But I dunno, I haven't really seen him hit it out the park with that one exceptional performance yet.

Good Time got nothing but raves, particularly for him. And Lost City of Z and his Cronenberg works also boosted his cred. Post-Twilight, he actually DOES remind me a lot of pre-Batman Bale, tbh. Both with the roles he chooses and his style as a performer.

I never saw collective raves for Affleck in any of those roles. People mostly said he was solid in those.

OK. That's two movies. Once again, Affleck has received rave reviews for multiple films, and he has awards cred and more box office hits than Pattinson. So to say Pattinson is the actor's actor and Affleck has never had that is still wrong.

Also that still doesn't mean he has a better reputation than Affleck. It's still us playing to our preferred favorites.

Sure Affleck tends to get into trouble a lot more, but Pattinson has not had a fraction of the career success. It's just a fact.

Affleck has a terrible reputation as an actor, especially pre directorial work.

I'm not saying he's had more career success, but the "actor's actor" thing is not wrong at all. No one was checking for Affleck as an actor. No one thought he'd ever win an acting Oscar. Hollywoodland was, critically, a "meh." Affleck's praise for Argo and The Town was mostly for his directing. If his performances were remotely remarkable, they WOULD have been shoe-ins for acting nods considering what Oscar-bait those movies otherwise were. But they weren't. Because Affleck The Actor has never been considered great. Pattinson's at a much earlier stage, but he's well on his way there based on the choices he's making and the performances he's giving.

I love you Flickchick, but I just can't go with you on this one.

No worries, you don't have to. :)

But for the record, I did name more than two movies in Pattinson's favor - there were those two, plus the Cronenberg films. I also forgot The Rover. He's been on quite the upward trajectory as of late, giving very interesting Bale-esque performances, no less, and a lead role in a Chris Nolan movie suggests the trajectory will continue.
