Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 5

Robert Pattinson would have to bulk up /put on weight/muscle for the role of Bruce Wayne considerably especially if he wants to come off as even remotely being Bruce in the new DCEU
So would literally every other suitable actor possible.

Him playing Tommy Lee seems like a missed opportunity.

The same one Michael Keaton and Christian Bale were?

This chorus is very tired and gets overused whenever an unorthodox choice for a character gets brought up.

I could maybe see Pattinson as Batman but he doesn't sell Bruce Wayne that much in my opinion, and he definitely doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Bale.

My only knock against Pattinson is that I don't get a paternal vibe from him, though he has that new movie coming out that could change my perception of that (High Life). Plus, this quality really only matters if Reeves is interested in introducing Robin at some point, so if he isn't then this is a moot point.

Doesn’t make it any less true though, does it?

You’re making a lot of assumptions for someone who’s never seen Pattinson play Batman or Bruce Wayne,

You can only judge an actor on past performances, and Pattinson is great in Good Time / Lost City Of Z etc. From those performances I’d judge he’d be successful as the three separate personalities that encompass Batman’s character, if Reeves intends to portray them all.

And you say he shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath as Bale. Would that be the same Christian Bale that Chris Nolan cast in 2004?

And remind me, who has Nolan cast in his next film again?

Keaton, yes, but Bale? How is Bale not Batman-y on paper? :funny: British aside, he's got it all down theoretically.

As for Pattinson, I don't even think it's so much a size/bulk issue with him. Yeah, he'd need to hit the gym, but just about every actor out there would for Batman, that's not a problem. It's more just that face, that vibe - he could put on 20-30lbs and get all shredded and I don't think I could find him half as scary a presence as, say, even Gyllenhaal or someone like that. He just sort of oozes "effete & precious theater kid", I can't wrap my head around the notion he's been around the world on his own for years and seen some serious ****. He doesn't seem sort of...wordly, or grizzled & mature for his age or whatever. That's way more of a problem than whether he can bulk up, which no doubt he can do.

He just kinda seems like a dude who's never done the slightest physical exertion in his life or ever been in the most simple of harm's way. An indoor kid, for lack of a better description. That's all well and good for Bruce Wayne before he goes on his little spirit quest, but afterward?

It does make it less true when it's overused and applied to anybody.

I'm not saying Pattinson isn't potentially capable, I'm saying I wonder why they'd take a risk on him (unless he's tested and somehow blew them away with some unknown trove of Batman-y qualities) when I think there are better candidates.

Yeah, the same Christian Bale who was cast in 2004. You know, the one who had already shown exceptional acting ability in American Psycho, passed the formality of an action schtick with Reign of Fire and did really well in Equilibrium - and then did well with the bizarreness of The Machinist. Let's not pretend Pattinson has proven himself to the same degree, nor that he carries the same kind of edge Bale did that made him the best choice at the time.

Nolan casting Pattinson in his next film means **** all in my opinion, it's a weak line of argument. He cast Cillian Murphy in Inception, is he suddenly a candidate for Batman?

I'll watch the two films you mentioned and return, perhaps with a changed opinion.

I think I also would have a hard time accepting Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. I did watch the first Twilight, with the mindset "who knows, I might actually like it", and I found it embarrassingly bad. I dont think that's in any way fault of Pattinson. The script and realization of the concept are to blame

However, if he played a bat themed superhero who is presumably supposed to have at least some level of gravitas, I don't think I could separate the image of a teen heart-throb sparkling vampire quite enough for it to work for me. I think that's mostly subjective, but it does seem like a significant number of people feel similarly about it

i buy armie hammer as bruce wayne, not as batman.he doesnt look menacing enough unlike bale ,keaton & affleck

we need someone with more charisma

I mean people said they would never find Ben Affleck or Michael Keaton intimidating as Batman, so if Armie Hammer is cast, just try and keep an open mind.

That is either a hell of a coincidence or his PR team playing the game early, before he goes in to read for the role. lol

He fits the age thing, but he is a midget.

Tell you what, he would be a hell of a lot more interesting than Armie Hammer.

I hope so. That's very logical too.
WB needs DC train keep going and more news for fans to discuss would lead to even more hyped SDCC panel because people want to hear more.

You're a great hype man. :D
I've begun to called him Stellar Tellaar after some of your previous posts.
I mean, who could forget this epic stuff:

I am proud and so heppy and peppy that Good words are going around about Miles and casting him as Batman. It seems you are on board with his talent elevating the role out of the pages of the comics.

Word is Reeves wants a Batman who can be beaten up quite easily and will be unconventional in the looks department. There is no better than Tellarr. The image of him in the red Batman costume really helps sell him too as a candidate. I really hope Reeves is thinking about him mainly as Armo Hammer and Nicholas Hoult just don’t really fit that unconventional out from left field type casting choice. This is Reeves making his own version of Burton and we need an actor to really be there who can perform and dance so well and circles around the rest but also infuse the role with an unconventional ruggedness. That is Tellarr because he Stellarr
