Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 5

I still notice a lot of people in the general audience still hate Ben Affleck as Batman though.
I think some people are unfortunately still judging him based on his Batman movies (and their reviews) and memes rather than his actual performance. And there are some who refused to watch the movies but declared him bad. I saw several of them online.

There are also people who didn't like his actual performance and their opinions are as valid as people who like/ love him.
A good, well-received Batman movie would help a Batman actor's public consensus and legacy.

I don't like Affleck's Batman but I will say that had his films been better, I might not be so hard on his performance. Moreover, his performance probably would have been better had be been working with a competent director.

Anyway, even if Pattinson is perfect for the role, you do have to wonder if WB would willingly take the risk at casting someone that would, again, receive immediate and unfair backlash the way that Affleck did. What I mean is, a lot of people rejected the idea of Affleck as Batman as soon as he was announced. Perhaps they were just a vocal minority, but it still resulted in a lot of negative talk. Casting Pattinson would result in a similar reaction from some fans. That could easily be overcome with a good movie and a good performance, but if either of those things aren't well received, you'd undoubtedly see a lot of criticism of WB.

Any backlash that Pattinson would face is inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. You have a couple of months of immature bickering on social media and then eventually people move on. If the trailers look good, people will show up.

Besides, Pattinson is starring in the next movie from our Lord and Savior Christopher Nolan, which comes out a good year before The Batman hits theaters, so he'll have drummed up some good will ahead of time.

If Pattinson is good enough for Nolan, he's good enough for Batman

The fanbase seems to be split into two camps. Robert Pattinson and Armie Hammer. Let's be real, those are far and away the two fan favorites, no one else really even comes close other than guys that are aged out of the role. I'd be happy with either.

Also psyched with either.

May be nothing, but WB has a upcoming slate presentation on April 2nd. Maybe we’ll get some updates/details on The Batman? Not expecting casting news but maybe we’ll get some nuggets.

Maybe. I wouldn't hold my breath though. Movie is still two years away.

On Affleck: I don’t doubt he could have done a good job in a different movie, but he signed off on Snyder’s horrible vision, and rightly condemned himself to the response he got.

On Pattinson: I’m sure WB will go with whoever Reeves wants. And Pattinson has a better reputation than Affleck, even with Twilight. As others have said, he’s going to be in the next Nolan, which will probably wipe away any lingering issues about his suitability.

Two years away :argh: Fair point. CinemaCon is basically a presentation to exhibtors/movie theater chains, so maybe they keep the presentation strictly to 2019 and early 2020 releases.

I wonder how this thread will be once we get our new Batman.

If they were looking a bit older I think Jamie Dornan would have made a good Batman.

Yeah, his involvement in Nolan's next film could help wipe away any bad memories of Twilight. Unless it's a film like Dunkirk where the main character barely talks and is outshined by his costars, lol. Though I'm not even sure at this point if Pattinson is playing the main character or if Washington is.

I still think Pattinson would be fantastic for the role. His role in twilight probably would have bothered me at 13, but not at 25, so its a yes for me

I remember when Wan published the first pic of Momoa as Aquaman in the submarine. Many thought that he looked like Roman Reigns and were joking, "So, Aquaman will spam Superman Punch." :funny:

If Roman Reigns has good acting talent, then perhaps in the future we could see him get a CBM role. Wrestlers usually could venture into acting if they're good enough.

Eh, Dwayne Johnson and Dave Bautista are outliers. Most wrestlers suck at real acting. Look at some of Hulk Hogan's films in the 1990s, lol. Or the times Steve Austin tried to start a movie career.
