Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 6

Guys, can we please stop talking about Affleck already? He’s done, that’s it, and even if this new Batman is intended to be the same one he played, he’s never putting the cape and cowl on again. Time to let it go. I didn’t care for him in any of his appearances, but I don’t want to keep talking about my disdain for his performance. And I have to think that most of the people who did like him have by now started to come to terms with the fact that he’s finished, so can we just move on? I know it’s tedious waiting for casting but it’s worse to keep debating the last actor who played the role and whether or not it was a good performance or characterization.

Guys, guys .... I think I've found the next live action Batman !

He's undoubtedly got the potential to be the coolest and most badass Batman to date !!

I saw Alan Ritchson mentioned for Batman. I don't know about that idea, but objectively speaking, he was probably the best actor on the Titans tv series. He killed it as Hawk, and I don't really care for that character.

I won’t attempt to argue, because we’ve all done it long before you came along, Mr Tuesday... and we won. Feel free to troll the archives.

Lololololololol... Decent enough deflection, gotta say. And I guess arguing with your crazy that thinks they've won this argument is enough to tell me to not engage any further in wasting my time...
I'll just use this video that helps illustrate that your Batman (and mine, for that matter, since I love TDKT and I grew up with him) is responsible for multiple killings that range anywhere between manslaughter and yes, even 1st degree murders (like when he drove the tumbler into the truck in TDK and smashed the drivers' head):

...So, regardless of the argument of the brutality and the characterizations, both Batmen have taken lives DIRECTLY not just once, but multiple times. And Batman's No Kill Rule prohibits him from doing that sort of killing even just ONCE. In other words, your kind "won" nothing because there was no "contest" to be had in the first place and thus no "win" to be claimed...
Finally, if Snyder did anything, was to follow Nolan to a T, by having his Batman act in the exact same way the latter's did and also the former having his hero live long enough to become the villain of his story... And that led to the arc that Batman went through in BvS being the greatest true deconstruction of the character across all batmedia and an incredible redemption story at that... Real petty for those that don't realise this, especially when those in question are batfans...

Affleck was undeniably awesome in BvS. I think JL was my least favorite portrayal of the character since the black and white serial days. I like Clooney better, at least he committed.

The Bruce Wayne that Clay Mann (incredible artist) draws reminds me kinda of Alan Ritchson (obviously talking about facial features plus a dark hair dye)...

Any chances of him being Batman are dead in the water since he's Hawk though

Well yeah but who’s to say he couldn’t break through in some other role? Dude is definitely talented. He was great on the criminally under-seen Blood Drive.

Revised my top 5 list to these guys:

Christopher Abbott
Ethan Peck
Jack O'Connell
Robert Pattinson
Zac Efron

Abbott is my guy, and I'll beat that drum until his name is officially out of the running. He checks all the right boxes, and he just feels like a Matt Reeves-type pick to me. Only problem is I have no idea if he'd even be interested in this sort of thing. He has an "anti-industry" vibe to him, going off of his past interviews.

Obviously, O'Connell and Efron have their heights working against them. I think 5'10" is the bare minimum you can go with Batman before things get trickier. Reeves would have to cast people of similar heights to put around them so as to create the illusion that they are taller than they really are. Might not be worth the hassle.

And for what it's worth, despite giving Invader Joker a bit of grief, I am not opposed to Armie Hammer in the role. It's just his name has come up so many times over the last several years that I simply cannot muster up any excitement for him right now. If he were cast tomorrow, I'd be like, "Kay, well at least that's done."

I'd love if Efron did it!

Efron is really good and I could easily see him as Nightwing but I don’t know about Batman. Maybe I’ll have to reassess after seeing that Ted Bundy movie, but he just comes off a tad too young to me (dude may be 31 but he could still pass for 21). And the height is a bit of an issue for me. I try not to dwell on that sort of thing but I agree with Boom here that 5’10” should be the minimum. I know Keaton was short but that was a different era (and I’d also say Keaton is a much better actor than Zac).

The main problem with casting someone under 5'10 is that you seriously start limiting the casting pool for supporting actors.

Well look who Keaton was surrounded by:

Billy Dee Williams - 6'0"
Christopher Walken - 6'0"
Jack Nicholson - 5'10"
Pat Hingle - 5'10"
Robert Wuhl - 5'10"
Michael Gough - 5'9"
Kim Basinger - 5'7"
Michelle Pfeiffer - 5'7"
Tracey Walter - 5'6"
Danny DeVito - 4'10"

You figure the combat boots added 2-3 inches to Keaton, so as Batman he probably measured closer to 5'11"-6'0". He was surrounded by people of pretty comparable height, which is the point I was making. You put actors that are 5'9" or 5'10" around Zac Efron and his height basically becomes a non-issue.

Zac Efron is too short to be Batman. Period.
