BvS Batman casting thread for Man Of Steel 2 - Part 1

Maybe I'm overthinking this, but perhaps whoever they get for Batman is someone who is at a higher status of recognition than Cavill. Because not only could people be a but thrown off that Bale isn't back as Batman, they might be a little displeased with it. Using someone more recognizable and likeable may assuage any dislike. That way when they find out, it may be easier to embrace more. That is, if they think he's a good choice. Because people seemed to have really embraced Bale. That's why Gosling or Gyllenhaal is a good direction to go in.

I haven't fully warmed to Gyllenhaal, Gosling or Bentley. But I do feel there's a strong chance it could end up going to one of those three. Especially for the reasons listed above.

I'm personally all for an unknown taking on the role, but I could see why WB might want to make sure they go with someone people at least have heard of so you don't get too much "Who's this chump replacing Bale?".

It'll be another up-and-comer like it always is... A well respected actor whos making his way slowly to the A-list.

Superman gets the unknown... Batman gets the somewhat established, and accomplished guy.

I know he's probably not physically right for the role but I wouldn't mind hugh dancy in the mix if they want to go with a lesser known actor. Hes fantastic as Will Graham in Hannibal and can pull off the dark brooding side of batman.

Karl Urban is a good choice Dredd receive good critic, i think he have the maturity to play Batman.

Just saw some fan art on this board, so hey:

How about Garret Hedlund? Seems regarded as a charismatic up and comer, and I think he's illustrated at least as much range as Gosling (please note; this is mostly a joke. I respect the guy, but I do think its hilarious how understated he is sometimes). He's got a deeper voice and the charm to pull off a smarmy Bruce Wayne. I figure he can probably channel some of the darkness from Death Sentence for the Bat.

Well I mean actual rumors from more credible websites. Not bloggers weighing in on opinions.

Some think Bentley is locked up for the role because he was cast in Nolan's Interstellar. I don't think that because Nolan is probably going to have even less involvement in this film than he had in MOS.

I'm guessing none at all. Perhaps a phone call or two between Goyer and him asking for some story notes, but I'm doubting that even.

I've been wondering what Nolan feels with this direction for obvious reasons. Not betrayal, but I doubt he's very happy with it.

I'll be utterly shocked if Baby Goose got it or was at all interested in the project.

I personally think we would have to think like Zack Snyder in order to gain a grasp of speculation of who would it be. So now we need an actor who looks good in slo-mo and is like awesome or totally cool, but awesome.

if there is one superhero he'd play, it would be batman. even as fitting for barry as i think and some other people seem to think he is. of course, that goes against him retiring so who knows.

i still think fassbender is the best choice and i hope that WB do all that i takes to get him.

Surely Interstellar's filming will run into early 2014? And today I saw an article saying BvS is also rumored to be starting around there... so wouldn't it be a very tight schedule if he moves from that film to this film whist also no doubt have The Hunger Games to film. This is Bentley I'm talking about. I presume he is in the rest of The Hunger Games.

If Man From Uncle doesn't get cancelled, then isn't it supposed to start shooting in Sept? You figure they would film through Dec. Cavill would need time to hit the gym between Man from Uncle and WF.

I don't think Nolan will have much of a hand in casting the new Batman, but the fact that Bentley is in Interstellar surely doesn't hurt his chances. This role will most likely go to someone who's on the rise, and being in a Nolan movie pretty much automatically makes your stock go up. Between Hunger Games and Interstellar he definitely seems to be well on the road to a comeback of sorts. And people recognize his face without necessarily knowing his name. He's in a good place fame-wise at the moment.

I just personally haven't seen a performance from Bentley that made me want to see him as Batman. It's subjective, but he just doesn't have a face that I want to root for. I don't think he's true leading man material. I'd much rather seem him play a villain.

Gosling has been directing his movie and doing press for Only God Forgives. He looks like he hasn't been in the gym in a little bit. But that's easy to get back into for him. We're only in July. That gives him MORE than enough time to get back into his OGF shape and push it even further maybe. Like how Cavill isn't in his MOS shape at the moment.

There's a chance Bats/Supes starts filming in the first couple of months of 2014 OR maybe it starts April the latest. Then Bentley could join. Hell, I don't know True Blood's schedule so maybe Manganiello wont have time or maybe he will.

But you bring up a good point with Bentley. Interstellar might start soon. Im expecting it to be finished by January or February. Bentley would have to jump right into Batman vs Superman. Which leaves him zero time to train. And he'll need to.

I haven't seen Hunger Games so I don't know anything about it or when theyre shooting or if Bentley is in the new one. That's another thing to look into.

If Bentley doesn't get Batman I think he (or Luke Evans) would make for a good bat villain. Like Black Mask. More Bentley though. Unless they want somebody older for that role then I say Viggo Mortenson.

If Gosling says he is taking a break from acting and directing, then Batman may have less of a chance. Though when actors say they're taking a break, don't put much stock in it. I can't speak for him, but perhaps playing a big superhero in a comic book film isn't something he would like to do as a creative choice right now. But then again, the next time it comes around, he might be too old.
