11. Jai Courtney

I’ve been very impressed with Jai since he left Australian projects and went overseas. He’s gotten quite big in a rather small amount of time. His performance in Jack Reacher was intense, and he’s also been in A Good Day to Die Hard. He’s a great actor at the start of his career.

12. Matt Bomer

I think Matt is a dead ringer for the comic book version of Batman (and also the B:TAS version). He’s also a really good actor. Unfortunately, I have lingering doubts about his ability to appear tough on screen, and I now do worry a little bit that he looks just a bit too much like Cavill.

13. Richard Armitage

My only exposure to Richard has been from The Hobbit, but I considered him to be a scene stealer in that. Should definitely be looked at for an older Batman.

14. Joel Edgerton

The fourth Aussie on my list is only down this far because, frankly, I don’t think he looks much at all like Bruce Wayne. Definitely a great actor though, and well suited for playing Batman IMO.

15. Josh Brolin

I’m coming around to Brolin but I’m still not sold. I think there are more interesting, inspired and fitting choices out there. Wouldn’t be the worst person to be cast, but I think we can do better.

Considering that this board has, by now, suggested everyone; either the role is impossible to cast or your comment is unduly cynical.

That is a bad choice, though.

its not impossible to cast. fanboys should never cast a superhero movie. everyone sees the character differently...well except shauner111 and libidoloca, who always agree on everything :) ...so everyone is going to go with someone different, because that actor fits what they see. it's more that none of us will agree on one actor.

My comment needs to be read with the comment to which it was a reply.

Except with John Hamm or Micheal Fassbender, with Gosling getting a lot of love here, closely followed by Brollin and Armitage.

Eh. I don't think it's impossible to cast, but I'm seeing so much unrelenting negativity directed towards anyone's casting ideas that aren't their own, I thought I'd hand it all back. :o

the amount of hate is so unwarranted. then again this is very tame compared to other sites.

Here are my fifteen top choices to be the new Batman. Some familiar names, but also some new ones. Hopefully it opens discussion a little bit...

They are in order of preference.

1. Michael Fassbender

Fassbender is, in my opinion, one of the most talented and versatile actors of his generation. I would say that he, Christian Bale and Tom Hardy represent the gold standard. I’ve always through that he would make a great Batman. I think he’s a great compromise for an “older” Batman who also has the ability to continue a franchise/trilogy of solo films. It’s complicated by his schedule and the fact that he already has roles in a number of tentpole franchises (X-Men, Prometheus and potentially Assassins Creed), but if they have even a chance of getting Fassbender they should. Not only is he a credible choice, but he’s also proving to have a box office draw. He has previously worked with Snyder on 300.

2.Jon Hamm

Hamm has long been a fan-favourite for the role. He has the exact appearance I’d want an older Bruce Wayne to have. He has a following from Mad Men and is recognised as a talented actor who has yet to have his big break on film. I could see a future Batman franchise flourishing with Hamm as the lead. He is incredibly charismatic and funny and represents a shift away from a Christian Bale-type actor. However, he has a busy schedule next year with the final season of Mad Men and has been luke-warm to the prospect of being in a comic book film in the past. He is undoubtedly a great choice though, having worked with Snyder before into the bargain. If he’s interested, Snyder/WB should look at adjusting the shooting schedule to accommodate him. It would be well worth it.

3. Ryan Gosling

A younger actor, but a favourite for the role for a reason. It’s difficult to point to a role that Gosling has done that indicates he could pull off Batman, but that’s part of the reason he’s a great choice. Gosling is an incredibly talented actor, who is also gaining a lot of traction and popularity. He would lend credibility to Batman vs Superman, and combined with Cavill would ensure a sizable female audience. Many franchises have tried to snap-up Gosling but none have been successful. He’s at the point in his career where he needs a franchise vehicle. WB should at least try.

4. Ben Affleck

I’ve always had somewhat mixed feelings about Ben Affleck as an actor. He’s given some truly woeful performances, often due to poor direction or poor role choice. However, he’s also given some fine performances and is making a comeback (mostly due to his directorial efforts) that most declining actors could only dream of. Something occurred to me when making this list: Ben Affleck can now be considered for an “older” Batman! Something which most people would know about Affleck is that when he is direction himself, he can act. The other thing which occurred to me is that if Ben Affleck played Batman in Batman vs Superman, and was given some creative say, then the next director of the Batman solo films is involved in the project. Affleck has a great relationship with WB and should definitely be considered.

5. Jake Gyllenhaal

He was the second choice for Batman Begins, and while majority think that he is too “baby-faced” to be Batman, I think he has matured enough physically to be an imposing Batman. If he was Nolan’s second choice, do I really need to say more?

6. Guy Pearce

Guy Pearce is an extraordinary talent who has just never got the recognition he deserves. He’s a true chameleon and while I have been iffy on him in the past, I think an “older” Batman is the perfect time to take a look at Pearce. Pearce deserves his “big role”.

7. Bradley Cooper

I’ve made my thoughts on Bradley Cooper pretty clear in the past. I revoke all previous statements I have made about him. This guy can act and should definitely get at least a look in for the role. Apparently, he’s Green Lantern audition was very Batman-esque…

8. Luke Evans

Something about Luke Evans as Batman really intrigues me. He is an up and coming actor, currently working on The Hobbit with WB. He has worked previously with Henry Cavill on The Immortals. His charisma and charm work well with his gruffer exterior to create something that surprisingly reminds me of Bruce Wayne. I get a good vibe from him.

Heeeeey, this is really great imo  :yay:
And I would be curious to see Ben Affleck as Bruce/Batman. I honestly think it would be cool.

It says something even more about society when people can't have a simple discussion about how a character is supposed to look and be depicted without these discussions being blown out of proportion and taken out of context to the point where everyone is labeled a racist.

There is nothing more inherently racist than insisting someone can not play a fictional character because their skin color is wrong.

It would have been tolerable if Batman was played by an competent actor and there would have been a better chance that they could write Batman better where he's not in a position to upstage Superman, but having someone like Bloom play the role is...well..that's something.

I don't think anyone would be able to accept him as Batman, thus this whole supposed "iconic meeting" between these two heroes would be a farce and only iconic in name.

If you so much want Batman not to upstage Superman, you should want an actor you dislike in the role.

I think hiring Bloom would be a pretty bad choice for the franchise as a whole. While Ledger did seem like a bad idea at first, we were aware eventually that he would be a younger, more raw gritty version of the character, meaning Ledger had done some gritty more humanistic performances which meant he could potentially take on a completely different version of where they were going.

With Bloom, all he really does is romantic characters and star in comedies. I think to hire him is to just have a pretty face on the screen. I'm not sure he would have the right gravitas for the character, regardless of what version they are going for.

On top of whether WB see him as a good choice, for the most part, people seem to think he is a bad choice and since the whole reason they included Batman was for the $$$$$ they might as well hire a fan favorite to ensure people will turn up for the movie. ;)

Legolas was neither a romantic character or a star in a comedy. Bloom can clearly do a secondary character in a mostly serious action film.

:o

I'm sorry, but this is just stupid. Batman's skin color is white. That's how the character has been portrayed over the years. :batman:

If you want to go even deeper he's technically of Anglo-Saxon descent so that means Joe Manganiello is out of the running. :wow: :p

Michael Fassbender, dammit! :argh:

Well, caught wind of a rumor via twitter about Ethan Hawke meeting with Thomas Tull at some point after Man of Steel opening. Some people thought it was for Lex, but some are speculating Batman now. Hmm... Dunno if he has the look for Bruce Wayne. Same problem I had with Karl Urban.

I'm watching Eric Bana right now on Conan. I could Bana as both Bruce/Batman. Anybody else?

He has always reminded me of Bale. I'd rather have Bale back or someone noticably more different.

I like these, i rearranged them in order of my preference..

and Ben Affleck definitely wouldn't be my first choice, but he has definitely gotten better at acting over the years.

Batman needs to be a credible actor like one of these guys, I think any of them could turn in a performance on par with Bale's

Ethan Hawke is still acting, I haven't heard anything from him since the early 2000's.

He was good in 2009 Daybreakers but I really haven't seen much of him since. I thought he kind of quit acting for family or something a couple years back. Regardless any rumor is worth discussing lol.

I thought Affleck was a terrible actor until I saw the movies he actual directs himself. It has to be said that the man is simply a brilliant director with a real eye for composition and visual style as well as timing and pacing.
But you can't ignore the non directed Affleck performances, has he improved or does he just know how to act when he is the one pulling the strings?

I know Affleck got badly burned by Daredevil but I badly want to see a Affleck directed superhero movie.

I like Affleck as an actor and really like some of his directed movies. Argo was very good. With that said, I don't want to see him as Batman. Daredevil soured me.
