I think enough of the general public is aware of Batman's backstory to not have to delve too deeply into it. Maybe a few snippets of information here and there could work to indicate what direction Goyer is taking with it, but I don't think the movie needs to devote any real chunk of time to it.

Oh, definitely not. Batman 89 got away with it just fine and the secondary character backstories presented in the Nolan's trilogy obviously worked well too. I think you have to make a slight mention.

So I come back to this thread after a 24 hour cool down period-after someone accused me on here and via pm of thinking that people aren't entitled to their opinions and that I judge a movie's quality based on it's box office numbers-and see more pointless arguements.

Yay, at least Shia brought some levity to the proceedings. I am beginning to have a virulent hatred for this thread.

I don't understand the idea that the general entitlement to an opinion means that no opinion may be criticized.

Oh well.

Batman is a tiny-weeny bit more than a "martial artist". He has traits and attributes that it has rightly been deemed worth hiring a proper actor to portray.

Yes , but a lot those with good looks are also very good actors .
Adkins is a Stuntman/Martial artist.
He is not qualified to be Batman and he will NOT be cast in the role.
