Batman Confidential thread

BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #1, it seems there haven't been any drastic changes to Batman's history. Well, there is a little think I'm questioning: Alfred. When we see Alfred in this issue, I noticed that he wasn't bald. His hair is shorter and it looks like that he is ABOUT to become bald, as sometimes the panels might show "openings" in his hair, but he still has hair. So theres the continuity as of issue one.

RATING: 8/10
They tend to draw Alfred differently at times, and usually in flash backs they show him about to go bald not bald yet.

Tom Grummet once drew him more like Michael Gough.

Soooooo...this is the worst Batman ongoing series ever. Not a hard feat, mind you, as pretty much every Batman ongoing before this was more or less consistently decent, if not excellent.

But this is maybe worse than any Batman miniseries, worse than any Batman one-shot. Maybe it's not worse than King Batman (http://i1.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/b6/25/4b21_1.JPG). Maybe.

So who's read the latest issue? It's great. What a surprise. Looks like we're in for a Batgirl 5-parter.

Catwoman steals Gordon's police notebook from the library and Barbara chases her. Apart from the fantastic ending (not giving it away yet) that's really all that happens. What's great though is the characterisation all through the issue, both in their banter and their secret thoughts, it's spot on. It's also just a FUN read, I really havn't been this surprised in ages. Never been that impressed with Fabien Niezca before and never heard of the artist but I'm absolutely buying the next issue.

The only immediate dissapointment is that it's yet another story set in Batgirls early career. I'd really love to see a story with Barbara as an experienced and efficient crimefighter. Something tougher. You could easily be forgiven for thinking that she put on the costume and got shot the next week.

I'm staying away from the Batgirl storyline, I just buy comics if my favorite artists is on it.

It was a great read! So far Confidential sucked but this is great. Batgirls expressions are really funny.

So is Confidential a totally different arc or does it still tie in with the current Batman and Detective Comics series?

I'm just wondering if it's a waste of time and money to get. I was thinking of getting it for the Joker stories but I didn't care for the artwork.

It doesn't tie in at all. it's actually supposed to be set in the early days I think. like Legends of the Dark Knight was

My comic shop finally got this trade in and I've only finished the first arc but I definitely give it two .

I would pick it up if I cared about the story arc. I don't give a crap about Batgirl. The joker one was cool but come on.

Well, didn't they cancel Superman Confidential after like 18 issues?

DC really seems to be confused about what they are doing at the moment, with alot of things.
Well, the quality of Superman Confindential dropped after the first storyline.
Batman Confidential instead is still a fun read.

It might be better if DC hires the right talent *hint hint* like Neal Adams to draw a 4-issue arc and to get past Batman artists to contribute a story like Alan Davis, Jerry Bingham, Gene Colan, Norm Breyfogle, Michael Golden.

did any of you guys pick up the new arc with the joker? it looked interesting but i havent gotten a chance to get it

i was looking at it today at my comic shop, but didn't buy it. The cover was great, but the interior art was a little "meh"...a bit too cartoony for my liking. I'm interested in the story, but i'll wait for reviews to come in.

I agree. That would be fantastic. They should also get better writers. It seems the last two arcs weren't really that great. And i think a big factor in it also is that the art kinda sucks too. And the weird thing is, Denys Cowan's "Question" work is excellent and Whilce Portacio's Punisher stuff is awesome. But i would REALLY love to see Alan Davis drawing Batman again. I love his work.

and speaking of Neal Adams, what's going on with that "Batman: Odyssey" project he's supposed to be doing with Frank Miller?

It was alright. I'm not a huge fan of the art, and there were some logistical errors (see my spoiler tag below for an elaboration). Some of Joker's dialogue was on the lame side as well. However, I'm not going to write it off just yet. Mostly because I'm desperate for a good new Joker story that actually does the character justice.

While the Joker is being questioned at GCPD headquarters, he picks up one of the phones, dials a number, and talks to someone on the other line. The cop who interrogates him asks Joker who he was talking to on the phone, to which the Joker replies that he spoke to the cop's wife and told her a blood test she had taken came up positive for a terminal illness and that she should just hang herself. THERE ARE SO MANY REASONS WHY THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. It's not a huge deal, but it's not very well thought-out.

Did anyone pick up the new issue? It had an awesome cover, but the art looked like something from Cartoon Network.

I haven't read this title since the Joker arc (origin). This, and Batman/Superman I may re-add to my list. Is this title worth it, from where I left off?

I found this issue to be very patchy and inconsistent. Some nice Joker moments, such as him beating himself up, for the last cruel joke at the end. But ultimately, I fear the issue just didn't come together to form a cohesive whole. The end revelation of [BLACKOUT]the wife's suicide[/BLACKOUT] could have been effective, if not for the fact that it was so blatantly telegraphed right from the first page, and that the lead-up to it happening wasn't at all believable or convincing. And the cartoony art didn't really click with me, either.

Overall, I'm 50/50 on whether I'll get the rest of this arc. I might give it one more issue to win me over before I drop it. The only reason I'm even doing that is because I'm a Joker completist, and love the character so much that I try to get most new stuff that features him.

Oh, and those complaining about the retcons to Joker's origins in "Lovers and Madmen"? Don't worry. According to this issue, that origin has already been forgotten about, with flashbacks here reverting to the classic Red Hood interpretation.

I can't tell if I like it or not. It seems really bland, I think the cruel joke was the best part of this Joker though. I really don't like the art especially.
