Batman Forever

Not sure which special edition disc this was mentioned on, but one of the producers mentions that Batman and Batman Returns are like Bob Kane's original Batman, Forever is like Batman of the 50's and then he compared Batman & Robin to the Batman of the 60's.

If you look at the movies in that context it makes them more enjoyable.

Forever was a nice break from Burton's brooding Batman. It was nice to see the Dark Knight in a different setting but still keeping his dark side. Schumacher showed great promise with Forever.

Idk, maybe just because it was a pivotal part of my entire childhood- and because I spent just about every day that I stayed home sick from school watching it on repeat...I know that movie by heart, man- but it never gets old...NEVER...

I did the same thing..

when I had Returns on tape (yes, tape) I watched it relentlessly, then the time came for me to own Forever on tape, and I then watched Forever relentlessly. I actually really like Forever and it's a toss up for me to decide my 2nd place favorite (Begins being number 1) between Returns and Forever.

I don't care what anyone says, I think Val Kilmer was a pretty good Bruce Wayne, and he really had this kind of presence about him when he conversed with Chase, like a kind of lost and depressed vibe, not to mention he did pretty well with the duality struggles and coming to terms with who he is and how he must handle things. That combined with the fact that he was pretty fit, but not overly fit, meaning he looks pretty normal and no one should even think for a moment that he could be Batman. Keaton had that going for him as well.

Actually I think Kilmer broods just as much as Keaton. It's just Kilmer broods more as Bruce Wayne, whereas Keaton does it as Batman.

Yup. While I think Keaton gave the most intense, nuanced performance, Kilmer's just got a great haunted voice that completely sells all the reflective Bruce material. His portrayal's detached but charismatic and in control. Out of all the actors I think he could take any crappy line handed to him and make it sound cool

I did. I love the heroic music theme playing in that scene as well. Just fit him perfectly, especially with him not going to give up until he win or die trying to win. :batman:
And that was a real man emerging from real fire, no CGI whatsoever.

Yes, I think Kilmer was a very good physical fit for Wayne / Batman. He was no whimp but at the same time wasn´t very obvious just like you said, the chiseled jaw didn't hurt either. I think Kimler was similar in his fitness to how Bale is in TDK (we have seen that he is not as muscular as he was in Begins).

I'm 25% into the original Batman Forever script and its already better than the movie. Damn shame they chose to lighten up the material.

Could you point me in the direction of said script?

I'd like to get some opinions of Two-Face here...Aside from that mention from Chase about him robbing the 2nd National Bank of Gotham at 2 in the morning, his obession with the number as well as his duality isn't really touched on that much. Frankly I don't know who to blame here--Mr. Schumacher, or the Warner Brothers? In any case, I think a better idea for Two-Face would've been as a guy using the street gangs to wipe each other out, with Batman being stuck in the middle of a massive war while trying to win Harvey back over to the good side.

I really liked some of the aspects of the Riddler character. The song playing at his apartment, his passive aggressive hatred toward his boss (which I think ultimately caused him to snap there), and some of his costumes. The idea of him reading brainwaves though just didn't sit well with me for some reason. I think it was the presentation, because I was perfectly fine with an army of mind-controlled penguins with rocket strapped to their back marching to blow Gotham sky high. Both had the potential to be really really really cheesy, but somehow the brain reading device came off as cheesier to me. But Riddler taking over the batsignal...really frakin' great.:up:

Finally, I wish all of Bruce's inner journey had been left in tact. :csad:

Two-Face does have the two personalities in the film, though it's easily missed. Basically, he does calm and authorative as Harvey, and crazed and energetic as Two-Face....e.g.

Harvey: We're sick of waiting for you to deliver the Batman, dear boy...
Nygma: Patience, oh bifurcated one...
Two-Face: Patience hell, we want him dead-!!

Here you go:

I'm 60% into it now and the script had a darker movie with Bruce really dealing with his inner demons and guilt over his parents death. They had a scene (which was cut) where Bruce talks to Alfred about why he became Batman in the first place and how the public thinks its to fight crime, which isn't the case.

I believe if the movie had been made closer to the tone of the script, this could have been a great one.

Im glad to see this thread continue to grow, a few years back the majority shunned away from BF but now it seems to have hope up there in batman history as a pretty decent summer popcorn style batman film.

Original opening scene that was cut:

Deleted scene of Bruce waking up from his amnesia(what TheGame was referencing):

Awesome 'Forever' Tribute:

Enjoy.

You all think that's good, read the script BEFORE Akiva Goldsman rewrote it.

I didn't like the "ever heard of a double cross" line too much. Other than that, its looking good so far. I think it'd be better for Two-Face to just leave the security guard in the building while going about his elaborate robbery business. There's still a chance the guard could get killed, but the death wouldn't directly be Two-Face's fault.

What are you talking about? Does anyone actually have the non-revised script? I'd like to give it a read, also...:brucebat:

the fact that Two-Face hangs the guard is one of the best parts of the deleted Arkham scene.

I don't think him hangs him per se (he's not tied by the neck). I'm not sure if the guard is dead or not.
Probably depended on which side of the coin landed while he was executing his escape plan...

But I kinda wish we could have gotten a more serious version of BF- the one that we got is in no way a disappointment. I'll always love it...I know either Roegele or DarkVengeance will be next in line to come in here and vouch for that, too...

I hate the BatFans that completely crap all over this movie- as if the two Burton films and Begins were SOOOOO far superior to this...Yet, to this day- I think it stands the test of time much better than the first 2...It grossed well at the box office, and it went pretty deeply into Batman lore, just could have maybe been a bit more linear and edited with a more precise vision. Don't ever talk bad 'bout FOREVER!

If they ever let Schumacher release a directors cut, or they released the rough cut/workprint from before they reedited the timeline and cut all those scenes it would be even better and possibly up there with 89 and begins. I've never really cared for returns and I hate Batman and Robin. As is though it is my 3rd favorite. maybe 4th after TDK. I dont know why schumacher went from a decent batman movie, to the ******edness that was Batman and Robin.

Come on are you serious? Oh im just gonna hang there when Im alive, ya ok lol. As far as I saw from the footage the guard is dead, Im sure if Two-Face is gonna write "THE BAT MUST DIE" in BLOOD the guard would be dead.

Well, you know I have actually edited that footage myself for The Real Game Begins and I've seen it pretty closely, repeatedly. The guard is not dead, he is gagged and he is moving. You can even him him trying to talk.
