The job of a daytime liason of either gender, as Batman stated in the comic, was to investigate the case during the day, when Batman's not supposed to be seen and Bruce Wayne has to be off running his company.

hes never needed a "Daytime liason" before? It just seems odd in 60 plus years Batman [who has robin] would need a "Daytime Liason". didn't Adman west 60s Batman have something like that?

And Jason Bard rocks, it makes sense that Batman would want to have someone working for him in places he can't be at times he can't make it. He is a busy man.

Robin's solo stuff seems to be more contained to the Titans or Gotham's nighttime post-OYL, plus Tim's got school in the day, just like Bruce has to run his company or sleep. So that takes Robin out of the mix.

But you do bring up a good point with Robin. Batman never needed a daytime liason before because the Bat-family was always expanding, and other heroes in the family could work during the day. He used to have Oracle monitor things during the day and speed up his investigations in general, or he could have Batgirl or Azrael check something out in the day. Now, Azrael's dead, Babs isn't speaking with Bruce since "War Games," Batgirl is uncharacteristically murderous and evil, Dick is in New York, and all of his other associates are gone. So, to fill that vacuum, he's now hired Bard as a daytime liason to investigate things when Batman can't.

Plus he's a damn good character. Nice addition to the Bat books in my opinion.

Yeah, he's got a certain charm to him. I liked his back-up stories a lot.

What the hell is James Robinson gonna be doing now that this arc is over? That'd be pretty cool if he could do back up stories for Bard in Detective. But I'd really like to see him on somthing big and oldschool. Wasn't there talk of a relaunch of Infinity Inc?

Apparantly he doesn't want to do another ongoing because he says he doesn't have it in him anymore, doesn't think he could write in on time.

But he is working on a huge graphic novel telling the story of the origin of the Justice Society of America. Which should be fantastic.

Wow, that sounds awesome. Any idea what the format will be? It'd be great if they could get a really good artist and publish it in the coffee-sized format they used for JLA: Heaven's Ladder.

All he says is;

In comics I have signed a contract to do something and it will take a while to do it. It’s a big complicated book to write, but I’m going to be doing a hardcover graphic novel set in the year 1940. Month by month it will show the independent lives, spread out across America, of the various members of the Justice Society. It goes month by month until all those stories converge and we end with the origin of the Justice Society. That’s something I’m working on at the moment.

Hopefully we'll get some more news soonish.

Batman OYL was a success in my book the first real success IMO in the whole OYL event.

Superman OYL was good too but it really kind of hit its peak in issue #5 followed by some pretty average issues. I need to see how WOnder Woman plays out but loved the 1st issue. Flash, well ill see how the arc plays out.

and I wish DC would've made it law that Batman can only have a black cowl. Seriously the light blue is a retro thing that doesn't even make sense. Plus, why should Batman's costume vary. You wouldn't see Superman go back to the S with the black in it

I'd consider Wonder Woman #1 the only really great success of the OYL titles. "Face the Face" and "Up, Up, and Away" were both good but had some serious flaws. Teen Titans started out intriguing but has become boring. GL still isn't that great, but it's OYL arc is much better than most of its previous crap. Flash sucked, Nightwing sucked, and Robin went from decent to suck in 3 issues.

I'd consider Wonder Woman #1 the only really great success of the OYL titles. "Face the Face" and "Up, Up, and Away" were both good but had some serious flaws. Teen Titans started out intriguing but has become boring. GL still isn't that great, but it's OYL arc is much better than most of its previous crap. Come on now you can't compare one issue of Wonder Woman to 8 issues of Batman and Superman

Though you can rule out Flash as being a success with only one issue, I don't think you can call something a success through only one issue. After all, through 4 issues I'm sure you'd call Superman a success


I still say "Up, Up & Away" was great, and I haven't read Batman yet because while I have most of the issues my shop was sold out of part 2 and 5 of "Face the Face" so I am probably going to have to get gouged on ebay before I can read the arc

Yeah, that was my main problem with the Superman and Batman arcs, too. The Gotham Central characters were discarded and Jim and Bullock returned, despite their great respective exits, Luthor's a one-dimensional psycho like in the movies, etc. It seems like everything's being played for recognizability over all else, regardless of whether it's several steps backwards for certain characters or whether it makes sense in the context or anything.
