Batman OYL discussion thread

Yeah, that was my main problem with the Superman and Batman arcs, too. The Gotham Central characters were discarded and Jim and Bullock returned, despite their great respective exits, Luthor's a one-dimensional psycho like in the movies, etc. It seems like everything's being played for recognizability over all else, regardless of whether it's several steps backwards for certain characters or whether it makes sense in the context or anything.

I really dont mind Gordon and Bullock back but I want to see the GCPD guys in action.:(

the third Gotham Central trade is out, right? I should buy that:o

I thought it skipped a few issues though, for some reason. I hate my life

Liked that bit about Akins being dirty, too? I couldn't stand the way the GCPD was treated in "Face the Face." Other than that and the bit with Tim it was great, but every time the cops appeared I had to struggle to contain my rage.

gordon and bullock being back bought a smile to my face. felt like the old days again.*BTAS*

never cared much for gotham central, expecially it's last issues with those robin murders.

Yes, GAH, we're all well aware of your aversion to anything good. Thanks for the reminder.

In any case, for me the Superman arc was every bit as good as WW #1, but I pretty much agree with you on everything else. :o

The thing with Luthor though is it's been pretty obvious (to me, at least) for quite a while that they were reverting Lex back to the mad scientist silver-age. While I definitely much prefer businessman Lex, after all DC's done to really destroy his image over the past two years or so, where else could they have gone with him?

There were rays of hope in Infinite Crisis. He was stuck in the mad scientist role after the Venom incident in Superman/Batman, but he manipulated events like a pro in both Villains United and the final scenes of Infinite Crisis. I was hoping that they might strike a balance between the two, but apparently that was too much to hope for, especially since it was so easy to make him an incompetent lunatic (not even a mad scientist, really, since he was an idiot) to bring him in line with the movies' portrayal.

Ah, I see what you mean. Although, when reading it, it made a fair amount of sense to me; y'know he went from being President to having his own city (in his mind, at least), for a dude with his ego, it sorta makes sense he'd crack. Not that I'd want to see him like that all the time. The whole arc was basically an SR tie-in, but still, it worked for me. Certainly more than the Batman arc, at least.

Heh I really enjoyed up up and away and face the face. Face the faces last issue was a bit weak but all in all was good.

I kind of like how they both resetted to a more familiar status quo, I rather read that than the constant need to find new directions, or new spins.

laugh all you want, at the end of the day im not the one crying for gotham central.
