Batman R.I.P.

Care to elaborate?

Sure, it seems a little more realtistic than tights and a cape, but it looks out of place to me. I guess I'm so used to the original version that this one seems overboard in comparison.

What are you thoughts IRON Lad?

Umm...no. That was an out of continuity story for Batman Black and White.

Anyway, I think everyone's overlooking Batman #666 and dismissing it just because it's so far fetched, but I think 666 is the ending of RIP. Once again, just a theory. But Grant Morrison's run has been so ****ing crazy, anything's possible. Damian was obviously brought into the mythos for something.

There's Batman dead, lying in the street (cause unknown). Damian takes the mantle. And there's the new suit everyone's been dying to see.
Too bad this theory is incorrect.

Grant Morrison said:
Opening the door with “superheroes always find clever ways of getting out of trouble,” CBR News asked Morrison to clarify, one more time, if his story is definitely the end of Bruce Wayne’s run as Batman.

“Yes,” he said. “But like I say, it’s so much better than death. People have killed characters in the past but to me, that kind of ends the story! I like to keep the story twisting and turning. So what I am doing is a fate worse than death. Things that no one would expect to happen to these guys at all.”
Bruce Wayne DOESN'T die.

He also makes it sound like he intends to end Bruce Wayne's career as Batman permanently, as long as he's on the book and has a say in it. Although I'm excited to read the story and see what happens, that's not an idea I'm entirely supportive of. :down

Yeah, I'm not either. This isn't a character like The Flash, or Green Lantern, where you can put anyone behind the mask without a definitive person's legacy as the standard to live by. Kyle Rayner outdid Hal Jordan. Wally West outdid Barry Allen. But Bruce Wayne's been the absolute Batman since the beginning, and whenever someone else stepped it, be it Jean-Paul Valley or Dick Grayson, they've failed to live up to Bruce's example. No one else has the training, the wealth, the determination, or the will to carry on his war, and Bruce himself would never abandon it until he felt it was finished.

Honestly, this just reeks of crap. There are alot of different, more creative things they could do that is potentially an 'event' in the Batman mythos, but what they're choosing is outright absurd, from what I've seen.

I couldn't say it any better myself.

As long as Dini is writing Detective, and Confidential is dealing iwth early stories, there will be 2 bat-books I get. If this RIP stuff carries on though, and Dini leaves Detective, that's getting dropped. And if Confidential changes formats (like LotDK did) or gets cancled (like Superman: Confidential) then that ones gone too. And then the only Bat-book I'll be reading is All Star. So Grant Morrision will have done what nothing has been able to do since the 90's (The Clone Saga over in spider-man...stopped reading comics altogether)...destroy my entire interest in Batman comics.

Gotta disagree with you there my friend.

I like it, it somewhat has that Batman by Gaslight look to it.

Agreed. If that were true, Rayner wouldnt be playing second fiddle right now. It took Hal's return to reignite the GL franchise.

Maybe 'outdid' was the wrong choice of wording.

My real point is, no matter the preference, Kyle was able to make the mantle of The Green Lantern his own for a good number of years, rather than just being a filler until Hal came back. He's become a fan favorite himself without being influenced by Jordan in virtually any way. But the moment you put someone else under Batman's cowl, that won't happen. People will just want Bruce Wayne back, because he's the only one that could ever be the real Batman.

Anyone know how long or how many issues RIP will be. It's solicited thru July (part 4) but nothing after that. Is that the end or is there more?

BATMAN R.I.P. CHECKLIST
Batman #676-681
Detective Comics #846-850
Nightwing #147-150
Robin #175-176
Batman & The Outsiders #11-13

Wow, I can just get the main story in BATMAN though, right? It's not like Ra's Al Ghoul where you had to buy all the books for the full story? I don't really care about Nightwing, Robin or the Outsiders.

i think so. The main story is in Batman, while the other titles just touch on the events. So you wont need to find out what happens after Batman 676 next in Detective 846.

Just my two cents on RIP:

[YT]0obBpsoztgA[/YT]

Bruce gets framed and is reduced to a penniless vagrant.

The 3rd Man in "the 3 ghosts of Batman" would succeed Bruce as head of Wanynecorp and takes the mantle of the Bat.

Bruce returns to Gotham a climantic battle between him and the Third Bat ensumes with Bruce emerging as the victor.

Bruce reclaims Wanyecorp and the Batman title.

Anyone read the new issue of Bats #676?

Any thoughts, comments?
