Batman R.I.P.

I hate "_____ is Dead" comic character storylines. I havn't read any of the Batman series in a long time, and this arch doesn't make me want to start. Just like marvel Killing of Captain America.

no it's not, the cap killing was for an amazing story. this is just to stroke the ego of a mediocre writer

Batman is the only DC comic that I read, and I know next to nothing about the other DC heroes. I really hope just reading the Batman titles will be enough
I feel the same way, aside from Batman and Superman who are the two big DC powerhouses the rest of the DC Universe pretty much hinges on them for every major crossover event.

Aquaman? Firestorm? give me a break.

Yeah. For example, the next big summer event, Blackest Night, is totally about Batman and... Uh... Hm. Nevermind.

For the record: not meaning to offend. Just being a smartass.

meh. i gave up on gl when hal came back.

That was a mistake. I prefer Kyle, myself, but under Geoff Johns, Green Lantern has consistently been one of the best books on the shelf.

I really wish I knew more about DC characters beyond the big 2 but sadly I'm still trying to learn more about everyone else. Its tough to keep track with so many damn crisis going on in DC over the years.

On a side note I really don't like that they had this story going while The Dark Knight came out as Ive had friends who loved TDK so much that they wanted to check out what was going on with Batman now and asked me about the whole R.I.P thing since they were so lost. What makes it worse is I can barely explain it myself let alone understand it.

this story has NEVER been about Batman dying. We've known that from the beginning. in the last issue he's writing the letter after the helicopter crash fer chrissakes. but still people keep taking 'RIP' to literally

Wow...so uh...the last chapter sure seemed like a case of DC realizing it has a vagina where its balls are supposed to be.

So when is the final crisis issue suppose to come where Batman's fate will come?

So Bruce is to retire as Batman. Personally I think that after over half a century of fighting evil, denying himself the joys of marriage and fatherhood, he has more than earned a honourable retirement(even allowing for the fact that time seems not run as does in the comics world as it does in reality, he must be getting a bit long in the tooth!!!).

Anybody think as I do???

Terry

Just a friendly remember to people. Batman R.I.P issue 1 starts with this:
http://i34.tinypic.com/313lqpe.jpg

And then it jumps to "6 months earlier" and we all know how Batman R.I.P ends with 6 months after and people claiming Batman and Robin are dead. ;]

I just read this now & if this has been posted or whatever, my apologies. This is my first time posting in the Batman comic section but anyhoo, here's what I read about Batman's death. Of course, there's spoilers, so read at your own risk I suppose.

THE world’s most famous comic book hero has breathed his last Bat breath.

Bruce Wayne – who by night is Batman – gets murdered by a man claiming to be the father he thought was dead.

In a highly controversial new storyline Bruce, who first appeared in 1939, is killed by Simon Hurt – the leader of the shady Black Glove organisation.

Simon claims he is really Dr Thomas Wayne, saying he faked his own passing when Bruce was a child.

The superhero dies when he tries to stop his foe escaping by helicopter in the new comic Batman R.I.P.

Bad father ... Batman's dad

Writer Grant Morrison said: “This is so much better than death. People have killed characters in the past but to me, that kind of ends the story!

"I like to keep the story twisting and turning. So what I am doing is a fate worse than death. Things that no one would expect to happen to these guys at all.

"This is the end of Bruce Wayne as Batman."

Batman will live on though, with another character filling his Batsuit.

Two likely contenders are Dick Grayson - the original Robin - or current Boy Wonder, Tim Drake.

Issues already out, so The Sun's just summarizing what we already know. Plus, it's sort of faulty, just like most of the news outlets' coverage of this story. We don't really know if Hurt is just Hurt, Thomas Wayne in disguise, Mongrove Pierce, or if Morrison's allusion to Satan was to be taken seriously (which I doubt, but you never know).

batman R.I.P. was really (!) odd and wierd for anyone who doesnt really read the whole world of Batman, but the last issue was superb. and did a great work in ending many storytales and creating some new. To retire Bruce and put someone else under that cowl is a great way of creating new stories for Gotham city. Grant also opened up for the Bat-family with people like Damian, the League of Heroes and such.

I think that if all the card are played right, other writers will have fun poking in the mess that Morrisson created and that in 10 years we will look back on his run with a sense of a new era.

I didn't read the comic book but I did read the spoilers so I wanna ask, is this
really the death of Batman? His fate? Or will it be revealed in Final Crisis. I am not keeping up with the comics.

It will be revealed in Final Crisis.

But who is wearing the cowl?
The Nightwing comics have strongly hinted that it will be Dick who replaces Bruce, and also in Batman #666 Damian Wayne talks about not being as good Batman as his father _and_ Dick.

I think Damian will **** up as Robin somehow which will cause Dick to die and he takes the mantle. Barbara Gordon becomes the police chief in Gotham and hates Batman (Damian) for losing a dear friend of hers.

Dick would be better than Damian to replace Batman. Damian is too much of a snot to ever fill those boots properly. :(

And thats why Damian spent 3 first years as Batman by booty trapping the whole city. ;)
