Batman R.I.P.

I hope they het someone else to write after Morrison's RIP run. They need to move forward, and you can't move forward by constantly looking back. Get some new ideas for Pete sake!!! Try to make your mark on modern continuity with something new!! Like Azzarello and Loeb did!!

Thats the problem modern comics are having, both DC and Marvel believe that there are no more new ideas left for their characters so they go digging back in the past trying to find loopholes in old stories and adding new twists to them. Batman's been around since the late 30's, DC probably thinks there's barely anything left to write about, which is sad and just plain lazy.

Morrison keeps mentioning that the identity of the Black Glove is right in front of our noses, so here's my completely crazy theory:

Black Glove is actually Bruce Wayne's split personality that we never knew he had until now. It sounds ridiculous and very unlikely, but this is Morrison we're talking about, here. Nothing can be ruled out. :hehe:

This arc is so crazy. The most I get is Batman is obviously jacked up on meth and he's going nuts. He's broken down, beaten and battered, and all thats left is the will to go on and still be Batman. Everything else doesn't make any goddamn sense.

I HOPE it doesn't stick, BUT my main fear is that it will. Also, there's no point in writing/penciling/inking and creating a story that's ultimately going to not have an impact or long lasting impression on this character. You know what I mean? Clone Saga anyone?

This sounds contradictory cause if you're interested in what happens next then there is a level of enjoyment present.
Not true. I'm not enjoying the arc, there has not been a single moment that while reading I had a smile. On the other hand, I do want to know where this is going to end and I hate the idea of taking this out of my "pull list", because I like to complete an arc after I start it, so I'll go ahead and finish it. That doesn't mean I am enjoying it.

That actually...really sounds like something Morrison would do.

Or it's just Alfred. The story could just be that bad.

I find it funny the majority of the people here posting are trying to figure everything out and dismissing it straight away as its going to be rubbish in the end.

Alfred is definitely the likelier candidate, but I don't want to accept that it could be him. If Morrison screws with Alfred (even more than he already has), heads will roll.

Again? Wasn't Alfred already Janus a couple of times?

Generally, if a comic makes absolutely no sense half the way through, it ends up being bad.

I've never sat through 5 issues of crap only to realize they're fantastic after I've read that all-releaving 6th issue. That's not how it works.

While yeah, there can be mystery in stories that aren't revealed until the end, it can (and should be) written in a way that's enjoyable, entertaining, and makes you curious to see what's in that 6th issues. Batman RIP doesn't do that, it just confuses the **** out of you.

i've not been following this storyline, anyone kind enough to fill me in?

Are they actually killing Bruce/Batman?

Who's gonna take over the mantle?

And whats the story arc actually called?

^^So far, its nothing like that dude, in fact we're all trying to figure out whats going on in this arc. Its called 'Batman RIP", but he hasnt died or anything, he's just...lost his mind.

the point is to sell comics. the truth is that a lot of your top tier heroes follow the tv sitcom rule, that by the end of the episode everything needs to be like it was at the beginning. not every story can be mind-shatteringly life altering unfortunately. :o

Then you're just wasting your money IMO and will be better served waiting for things to end and reading spoilers. Oh and yes it also could be Bruce one thing Morrison never has gone for is the "It was all a dream" scenario so I don't see that being likely. It could be the Fight Club approach or even The Game with Bruce Wayne in the Sean Penn role and Batman as Michael Douglas (not that Michael Douglas I mean the son of Spartacus).

I know, it doesn't always have to be ground breaking, but go somewhere different, and not a billion miles away from different. Focus more on someone like The Scarecrow, Mr Freeze, Clayface...Tragic characters you can actually work with...Not heroin tipped crazies...

Bleh haha

I've been saying the same thing for a while now.

Thanks for clearing that up:yay:

What's confusing about R.I.P.? I honestly don't see it.

The Black Glove run by the evil Dr. Hurt has struck at Batman using a code phrase implanted by Dr. Hurt years ago, Zur-Enn-Arrh to zap his mind. They then drugged Batman and dropped him in the ghetto of the city to wander around amnesiatic and hallucinating.

Meanwhile, the Black Glove has moved into the Batcave, captured Alfred, captured Nightwing and imprisoned him in Arkham, and are going after Robin. And, rather than giving up, Bruce Wayne discovers there's a primal Batman deep within him and reinvents his identity.

That's the whole plot summarized in two paragraphs covering three issues. What's confusing about it? Yeah, we don't know Dr. Hurt's motivations and origins or what happened to Jezebel Jet, but there are three parts to go and is there any doubt that that information will be explained?

People seem to think that references and imagery to wild 50s stories are important plot points instead of thematic and symbolic points. Batman reinvents himself in his amnesiatic fugue state triggered by the phrase Zur-Enn-Arrh is linked to Batman constantly reinventing himself over the years, not to the Batman of Planet X being behind things. Bat-Mite is a psychological construct representing the pure, good, fun, and childish aspects of Batman, contrasted with a demon behind Bat-Mite in the previous appearance in Morrison's run. Don't people understand symbolism any more? Or how hallucinations can illuminate a character? Taking every image as literal reality and important plot points is missing the forest for the trees. Other than Tony Daniel's art being a little unclear in spots, I think people really underestimate how straightforward this story is. As far as I can tell, the only story of that era that you really need to know is "Robin Dies at Dawn" which Morrison himself explained earlier in his run.

ha ha have you even read any of Morrisons run?

My theory is Jezebel Jet is the black glove.
She's the only one that has been literally "in our faces" through out the whole run.

we can't have a married bruce wayne now can we?
i think killing her off would be a bad move also

Everyones theory is Jezebel Jet is the Black Glove.

I read on another forum a really good theory about Jezebel Jet literally being The ****e Of Babylon as Morrison said she was based on, except the guy pointed out what makes her The ****e Of Gotham. I will find it if anyone wants to read it.

I don't go into the Batman comic forums often. :csad: I like to figure out mysteries on my own. I formed my own opinion solely based on what I read thus far. Since I have a strong hypothesis and I love the SHH! boards so much, I thought I'd check out what its like here. :cwink:

BTW Morrison is my fav. writer. :yay:
I know fans are pissed but I don't think he's shown his hand just yet.
People have to remember that its Spidey that gets the hyped events that turn into crap fests. not Batman cause Bats don't play that. :woot:
