Batman R.I.P.

Wow so many negative reactions. Nothing wrong with that in itself, it's just that most of the complaints seem so puerile and beside the point. I'm glad that the majority of mature aged comicbook readers don't think the same way as the people on this message board, otherwise this arc wouldn't be selling gangbusters and we would've we missed out on a great mainstream Morrison story that will be referred to as classic milestone for a long time to come. After you've read alot of comics you feel like something that pushes the limit and contains more level of story, and if that means going into the past or writing meta-fiction then great.

I agree the arc kind of slumped with this issue, with all that wandering around with the junkie hobo, it wasn't that interesting. But the bits with Robin and Nightwing, the thoughts from the casebook and junkie Batman in his Zur En Rah costume more than made up for it. I wonder where Jezebel is now.

Also I think I missed how Batman went from the batcave in last issue to the dumpster again at the beginning of this one?

Nope. Morrison just skipped over that part. One can assume Dr. Hurt just said "Now then, inject him with meth and throw him in a dark alley way in the middle of Gotham".

Actually, they do show Batman getting the meth injection...

hey; what was that message board somebody here referred to many pages ago that's pink or orange and like 50 some pages on RIP w/ some really good guesses? might've had like a french name? anybody has that link and would care to share again, it'd be appreciated...
oh and whoever said this seems fairly simple with dr. hurt et al is fairly on target, i think- and yes to bat-mite as a subconscious 'ally' urging bruce toward the lighter side of his semi-chosen profession.
and yes, hurt does look like a wayne...
so far i'm diggin this run and morrison's run as a whole has actually turned my biz partner, a known capes and tights hater totally around & all about some batman now, so good job on reaching out to the non-comics audience as well, mr m...

but does anyone have any idea who's in the batsuit getting yoked off by granny in final crisis? could that be TE or JT?

I've heard that Tim Drake-Wayne is the one who takes over the mantle. Leaving Robin duties to Stephanie Brown.

So does this mean that Bruce is completely going to stop being Batman? I mean I love Tim's character and he's an amazing hero but I mean come on he's no Bruce. At least not yet. The kids still in high school there's no way he can replace Bruce as Batman.

You must be new to comic books:grin:

A broken back and being confined to a wheel chair and being replaced didnt stop Bruce from being Batman for too long.

Being dead and replaced by 4 characters didnt stop Clark from being Superman.

Being labeled a mass murderer of Green Lanters and then complete universe's and dieing didnt stop Hal from being Green Lantern again.

In the long run Bruce will return to being Batman.

I've got a feelin' that Tim will take the mantle for the rest of this year with Bruce reappearing later.

I, for one, am loving "Batman R.I.P.". I don't really know what's going on.... but in a good way. Like the comics equivalent of a David Lynch film, where nothing seems to be clicking quite right, and it just creates this nightmarish atmosphere of dread that you just can't quite put your finger on.

So far, I think it's excellent. But the ultimate success/failure of the storyline hinges on how they handle the next couple of issues. One good thing though - Joker returns next issue!!!!

I just hope after all of this is over, Bruce wayne remains Batman. I don't want Tim to become Batman.

Dick grayson needs to be Batman, his fighting skills are superior to tims.Plus tim is to small to scare anyone

He can always wear lifts like Dick did in Nightfall. Plus I think it would be interesting to see Tim assume that role, especially with the events of Final Crisis. Besides, Nightwing is his own hero while Robin has always theoretically been in training to assume the Batman Mantle when the time came. This is that time.

Ok, I got a quick question...

Final Crisis is set after Batman R.I.P isn't it? So technically we know that Batman survives this and Bruce Wayne continues as Batman?

Has it been confired that FC is set after RIP???I thought it was the other way around.

I was under the impression that FC is set concurrently with RIP. Meaning that issues 1-3 of Final Crisis take place before Bruce's bout with amnesia. Morrison has stated that he intends for this change to affect the DCU for several months I've always assumed that he was referring to the months that FC was taking place.

But whos that from?????

i was pretty sure FC takes place after RIP and that whoever's in the batsuit isn't bruce or maybe it Is bruce and This is the fate worse than death GM's talking about, although it's lame and cheesy to do it outside of the RIP story- or could be it's the zur en arrh batman getting yoked up in FC-

So RIP is turning out to be the worst thing in Morrison's run so far. :down

Why does NO ONE on the street recognize Bruce Wayne? And Dr. Hurt looks like something not even worthy of the Adam West show.

Crap. :(

I was also under the impression from reading interviws that RIP and Final Crisis are kinda running at the same time. The changes in RIP will play a role towards the end of Infinity Crisis, but when FC begins RIP has yet to happen

No one recognises Wayne in the street because no one would ever expect to see him looking like a bum. it's not a possibility
