Batman R.I.P.

I haven't read Animal Man or Marvel Boy, but what revelations in JLA and X-Men were slipped early in those stories?

Like in Rock of Ages you knew Superman destroying the stone might have reprecussions or in New X-Men when he kept on hinting that Xorn might be Magneto to the point that it was. It's just Morrison's style not a knock on him just part of what I've seen of him as a storyteller all these years I've been following him. Hell I would'nt even be surprised at all if Hurt does end up revealing himself as Thomas Wayne to Batman.

The red and black thing has been an ongoing question for me. The fact that the characters in the story are aware of the significance of those colours suggest to me that the villain is something grander than just a simple man, like Thomas Wayne. Batman knows these colours are important. The Joker knows. This means their presence isn't just a thematic thing thrown in by Morrison. Their presence in the world has some purpose within the story. That distinctly suggests something more than human. If these colours were simply thematic, never mentioned by the characters but noticed by the audience, we could assume it's just a stylistic, thematic thing. But the characters acknowledge these colours and their significance, so obviously they have some practical relevance in the story. Why would there be red and black everywhere if we were talking about Thomas Wayne?

In the event it may be Dr. Wayne I don't know either but I'm sure down the line it would be explained. Right now I just want to read 681 I know Morrison is not going to stop writing Batman and that this just leads to FC's Batman portion and Battle for the Cowl so I don't have too much riding on this issue. I'm anticipating it but at the same time I'm prepared to be dissapointed if that makes any sense cause I know this arc is part of something that will continue to be told afterwards.

That Joker dialogue about searching for symbolism and such from last issue totally made sense to me as someone familiar with Morrison more than it did as someone familiar with the bat mythos. It could all just be nothing after all a lot of dead bats are black and red since they're covered in blood lol so you know black and red = Batman the entity dies. So I wouldn't really over think it too much cause Morrison always toys with readers.

I've liked this arc and it's an improvement over where I last left the run (Batman of all Nations) but I know one thing, Morrison has a knack for throwing curve balls. His style is like this he keeps throwing curve ball after curve ball until the reader finally swings and connects. By that point they either get a home run (love the story) or hit a foul ball (hate the story) either way it always keeps people talking but there is no middle ground with the man I've found. His work is always love or hate.

thanks. i should obviously read the black glove trade first right?

Yeah, if you want to follow Grant Morrion's story get Batman and Son, The Black Glove. Black Glove is pretty awesome and has the international batman league which is quite lol. =P

PS. So when do our american friends here get the comic? in approx how many hours will it be morning and someone has read it? :P

So if we are to believe USA Today and all of the internet - Batman doesn't die, but simply leaves for a while because of the revelation in this issue and he is so shaken up, that someone else has to take on the mantel of Batman.

Everyone is saying the reveal is Dr. Hurt is Thomas Wayne on other forums and as we ALL know the internet must ALWAYS be trusted:cwink:

Superman saved the world when he left...what's Batman going to do? Get drugged up and hallucinate and have identity issues that he's overcome many times in the comics already?

Sigh.

Batman's absence was handled at least moderately well in KNIGHTQUEST. We'll see how this shakes out. Does anyone believe this is permanent?

It will last for a while, since we will have loads of issues telling the story afterwords Batman R.I.P and then theres Final Crisis and whatnot.

Batman's absense was handled well in Knightfall/Knightquest/Knight-stuff since it wasn't about replacing Batman or his end, it was to show the story of Jean-paul, who btw, is he german? The Red Robin is using a german gun and i don't know is that a hint/clue regarding who he is or what.

Ah interesting! Well i wish i could get a better review on the latest Batman RIP me being european i can't wait for the final issue of this exciting story! :P

There were hints? I read it in TPB and already knew the outcome, so I wasn't looking, but I don't know of any hints.

Hm. My sensibility doesn't let me see it was something irrelevant.

His work is always love or hate.
No doubt.

Bruce might take a vacation but you can bet DC has something cooking in 2009 for Bats' 70th birthday, either that or wait for something big when the next Batman sequel comes out.

Hmm, if those possible spoilers are true, it seems rather anti-climatic. True, we have to wait until the Final Crisis issue, but still....

And is it me, or does the whole "Alfred's your father" thing still seem like a waste? True, it may have been used to throw off the reader, but it seems, from reading the spoilers, that Bruce was COMPLETELY unaware of it. So how could it have any effect on Bruce to begin with?

It just sounds really really anticlimatic. I'll have to re-read the run to see if maybe i'm wrong, but we'll see.

I'm curious: suppose you are the individual at DC tasked with retiring Bruce Wayne. How do you do it? What's your final Batman story?

wait...Alfred is really Bruce's dad?? WTF?!

no.

forgot to mention that. It was some bullcrap lie that the Black Glove gave to the media. It was touched on in one issue, and never again. It's mentioned in the issue that comes out tomorrow, according to the users on the DC forums, as being false.
