Nice, they were animal, yet human, well developped and intense characters in Burtonverse. If a character sucks in the comics, and is changed and made more interesting in the movie, then the change was an improvement. I think this has never been more true than with the Penguin and Catwoman, both terribly overrated, boring, just plain lousy characters in the comics IMO, and Burton actually made me like them.
...that's it? how unimaginative. Burton succeeded in tranforming bad characters into great and developped ones, with a background, giving them a new dimension and sense, people you can almost care about. That is an accomplishment. Yes, perhaps normal everyday life people would not use characters they find boring, sure since they are not interesting. But whe a brilliant director decides to give this type of character a second life, a good one, well there is a beautiful and creative solution. This is remarquable. If a character sucks you don't use him. I think that would be the best solution.
