BvS Batman/Superman Pushed Back to 2016 - Part 1

This announcement made by wb has been considered as a disaster by many. I look at it as it might be the best thing to happen in a while. Marvel has had some great films from 2008 through 2012. I wasn't impressed with iron man 3 and from what I hear about thor 2. I will make my decision on it when it come out on dvd. Hope captain America 2 is good. Maybe letting marvel have there day in the sun at this time is good because I get this feeling they will have a bumpy road with guardians of the galaxy and antman.

Well I think a Justice League movie could be awesome, especially one that WB doesnt feel obligated to rush out in 2015 to 'chase Avengers dollars ASAP'.

Of course a Justice League movie would be awesome in theory, but it has to be done right.

If the rumours are true and the plan actually is to film BvS and Justice League back-to-back, I think that would be enough buildup to do the story well. At the very least it would indicate Warner Bros. realizes they need some kind of long-term plan and can't keep thinking one movie at a time.

Build-up is not necessary to make a good Justice League movie.

Good writing is what it really needs. Which requires some thought and awareness on WB's part.

Honestly..this is my thoughts on this whole matter.

A lot are saying that because Warner Bros. has pushed up the release date for this film by one year, it indicates that they have no idea on what they're doing with their DC franchise.

The strongest rumor/belief for why they did so is because they seemingly want to strengthen their script and story for the film.

Honestly, if that's the case, then I would imagine that this alone would prove that they at least have some idea on what they're doing. If they didn't know what they were doing, then they would have not cared about such a thing and just go into production like usual...with their film coming out in 2015 as originally planned.

Plus, I feel like it's still somewhat unfair for people to keep comparing Warner Bros with the other DC properties.

People conveniently forget that SEVERAL studios own Marvel properties. It's common sense and a given that there would be more Marvel films coming out. If either Fox or Sony were the only ones that made Comic Book films, I guarantee you that we wouldn't have as much Marvel films out as we do now.

Sony primarily has Spider-Man to rely on, while Fox has X-Men and the Fantastic Four properties.

And let's not forget folks that Marvel Studios was designed for the sole purpose of just making comic book films.

Warner Bros is HUGE corporation....their job isn't to just satisfy comic book fans, but fans of all sorts....and they have to budget all of their resources into making several kinds of films.

Could they have done a better job with their comic book films? Sure, of course. But, c'mon guys.... Warner Bros isn't a Comic Book-based film company. They could just make Superman and Batman films for the most part and still turn out a great profit at the end of any fiscal year.

And honestly... I don't remember there being this much hostility towards Warner Bros and DC films in general prior to the announcement of this film being delayed one year.

As soon as that news came about, we've primarily had most people just bashing Warner Bros away, along with Marvel fans coming in and trying to rub it in for all of us and such. Frankly, this news has really shown a lot of ugly colors for several posters here imho, which is just plain sad.

It's one thing to be upset, which I entirely. But another thing to start bashing people, companies, celebrities, or even acting almost suicidal over things like this.

due to the lack of news.

they're really good. found them on tumblr

Love the slightly rounded, but more realistic symbol after the Nolan one.

But the general audiences are impressed. IM3 made billions. N Thor2 made as much as MOS. That's what the filmmakers care the most. Fan boys are too tiny.

Btw, I think the delay is because they are having troubles finalising the script.

Well, I think many of us have bashing WB ever since the 20 years of development hell of superman movie. :)

That's the thing. You basically have a generation of fans who have come of age during the Nolan Years and the MCU so they really aren't old enough to remember how WB operated post Schumacer and pre Nolan. In that sense they kinda take for granted the idea that WB knows how to get these type of films off the ground and that they "have a plan". The reality is they were lost before Nolan came along. Sorry , but its true. Now that Nolan is gone , they're reverting back to the way things use to be. Thus, the cautious moves are par for the course. They're always wary because the ghost of Batman and Robin is always on their minds. They remember how confident they were and how much money they threw at it...only to see the fallout. Heck, you have alot of fans who have no clue of the shockwaves that film had. GL was bad, but nothing compared to what happened when B&R hit back in the day. So in that sense , cautiousness is always good.

Marvel Studios by itself, not counting Fox or Sony, is making more Marvel movies than WB is making DC movies. There have been 8 movies in the Marvel cinematic universe, whereas there has only been 1 movie in the DC cinematic universe. You can take Fox and Sony out of the equation altogether and Marvel is still dominating by far.

I think you're right. And that by definition means that WB doesn't believe in DC like Disney believes in Marvel. And I suppose it means that WB has less of an incentive to have an actual plan for their DC properties. It's a shame that DC is in the hands of people who don't really care about them.

Nah there's been fans that have been angry with WB for a loooong time. When they screwed around with Superman for 20 years, Batman & Robin, when every single idea and bit of news coming out for over a decade was the worst thing you could possibly imagine, when Superman Returns failed, and especially when Green Lantern turned out to be an atrocity. This latest thing is just another kick in the groin after being battered for years.

You could put the new Star Wars Episodes plus spin-offs in this grouping, too.

I find it pretty funny how the old idea of spin off's has now been coined 'shared universe'.
I get how people can think that about WB(though I've yet to hear about any non superman films). But Sony and Fox?

The only way things would get better at Warner Bros when it comes to their DC properties is if they hire a permanent consultant that'll over see their comic book films' division.

And before anyone recommends Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, don't forget that these guys are only interested in making Bat-God and doing so at the expense of nearly every other DC hero.

Honestly, if this scheduled change is to help make the film better, then I'm all up for it.

And like I mentioned before, I think a lot of this frustration..or some of it at least, came more from the fact that some people were anxiously waiting for some news on this film instead of constantly getting BS rumors from other sites...and when we finally got news, it was this, which pretty much set a time bomb off in a lot of people.

^ I think the DCU should be controlled by someone like Mark Waid. Or something ;)

But then he'd probably reboot MOS to retcon the ending.

Funny to see some people wanting Affleck out... He's the ONLY chance this movie has to be really good in terms of script. Or would you really trust a Goyer/Snyder pairing without Nolan? :o

Absolutely completely. far far more than any Affleck input.

I could be wrong, but I believe that person's name is David Goyer.

It is. Good luck to anyone at WB who tries to overrule him as a screenwriter. He's their guy and for the time being he has more creative control than anyone else involved.

Even if Chris Terrio is rewriting BvS?

WB didn't mention Terrio in their press release. There's literally no reason to hide to attachment of an Academy Award winner to a project under this much scrutiny if he's actually attached. Until they actually say he is I don't believe he is.

I'm sorry but that is a bunch of nonsense.

I'm sorry but that is a bunch of nonsense.

Name ONE version of Batman from any animated series that we've had since Batman: TAS where Batman's smarts and pure determination wasn't the major reason for the victories achieved in most of the battles with the big time villains?

Kinda happens when you are on a streak and are making money for the studio.
