This line really jumped out at me:

"If Zoolander 2 is unfunny, then by all means lower its rating. But if BvS is unfunny, that's because it wasn't trying to be funny."

I think because Marvel established a comical superhero brand (which i really love and enjoy), the mainstream critics feel all CBMs should have comedy intertwined in these movies and failure to do so during action sequences results in a failed superhero movie (and in BvS's case, a choppy storyline too). From what I've read, many critics have said its too dark, not fun, takes itself too serious, etc. Guess what... that was the intent. I mean, its all good and i get it. i am not butt hurt that the critics are not flopping around with joy over this movie, because i LOVE this darker and more complex take on the DC universe. Of all the Marvel movies, CA:WS was my favorite marvel movie so far and why??? It was a complex and deep storyline.

Basically, its disappointing for me to see BvS get such low grades from critics (currently hovering around 5-6 on actual RT scores), but it seems from the way the reviews have been written that majority of them have grown accustomed to and enjoy the Marvel brand and nothing will change that and thats perfectly fine, again, i think they are fantastic movies.

I am just so ready to see this raging batman on the IMAX i can barely stand it.

i wouldnt base anything off a guy who wrote near on 2000 words defending a movie he hasnt actually seen to be honest...

Knightmare scene is pointless in the context of the movie. Adds nothing to the narrative. [BLACKOUT]The Flash cameo is also pointless[/BLACKOUT]. And Wonder Woman adds nothing to the story. She's there for the marketing. And really, the Justice League setup is terrible. It managed to make me less excited to see the Justice League on screen.

You don't think a scene
where Batman sees Superman take over the world and enslave mankind doesn't fuel the need to take Superman out?

agree exactly - you know the perfect set up for an actual Trinity movie or Justice League movie? A freaking great Batman v Superman movie

That's why I love DC films, the tone is right up my alley, I want it to be serious, tragic, dark, with hope too, and there's all of that in there.

see it felt schumachery at times to me, particularly the batmobile scene - all the grit and deep thinking always felt surface deep throughout in my opinion

different strokes for different folks I guess

spidey-dude, do you plan to see this movie again in the theater?

Plaidchuck summed up my feelings about the movie:

I think we have very similar feelings

I dont blame Snyder, I think he's a great director but he needs a very strong writer who's script he can follow

as an aside Snyder and Cavill came on stage to introduce the film and I found myself really liking Snyder as a person from the brief intro

Schumachery? What?

Joel Schumacher, he directed Batman Forever and Batman & Robin - the Batmobile scene in this felt like something from one of his versions of Batman just with modern effects

the scene (and a couple of others) just felt a bit campy to me

I've got nothing against Zack Snyder himself, I just don't think he's the right guy for this job.

Move on then. Let people judge the movie themselves

Lol I know who Joel is. Okay for the rest.

its a discussion forum, I'm sureKing666, like me, has a love for these two characters and wishes to discuss the movie he's seen

What a big disappointment the film is, just got back from watching it.

Hopefully I used the spoiler tags correctly my deepest apologies if i have not, slightly new here.

Overall rating 3/10

SPOILER
- A lot of the scenes were confusing, came out of no where, half the time i was like whats going on.
- Batman was shown only for a little time which was a major disappointment
- Ben was I think pretty good as Batman.
- Lois lane scenes were not needed I thought, totally unnecessary but good for a bit of romance
- cliff hanger was a huge let down, wtf did DC really expect us to believe it.
- The Doomsday battle was boring.
- When Batman was saving Mrs Kent, that was a really good scene, loved the new fighting style especially with taking down bad guys with gadgets.
- The nightmare scene Of Bruce was so stupid, totally time waste

Your spoiler tag usage checks out good enough. Welcome to hell!

I saw the film. I'm sure Zack and Terrio would have wanted to put out the 3 hour R rated cut, but they got to make money, more showtimes, R rated BvS film would never happen in theaters.

About the dream sequence
It's setting up Justice League, Darkseid, a possible future where Lois has been killed (directly or indirectly) by Bruce leading to Superman becoming a tyrant. Flash reaches out to him to tell him Lois is the key, for what, who knows yet, that he has to find the other metahumans, and that he was right about him, who could be Superman or Darkseid or who knows

So no, it's not pointless. It will go over the general audience's heads for sure, but they'll get it later. Nobody but the fans had any idea of who Thanos was, or that kind of thing either (and yes, I know being an after credits scene is different)

She was [BLACKOUT]the key to Clark becoming Superman on Smallville, so maybe in the DCEU she is the key to him staying on track. Which wouldn't be the first time[/BLACKOUT]

Just came back from it and I have to say for the most part I liked it. The story was fine, if not a little simple and dressed up by Fong's cinematography.

The Good Stuff

Affleck's Batman was a tour de force in terms of nailing the depressive, arrogance of Bruce Wayne/Batman. I got serious Chuck Dixon and Grant Morrison vibes from him.

Cavill and Adams were also good, carrying on their character arc from MoS smoothly.

I loved the start and reliving the Black Zero event from Bruce's eyes. Wonder Woman and Alfred were great too.

I did see what people were saying about the editing in fight and action scenes being a little jarring, but I was able to get past that. The Batmobile chase and the trinity fight were entertaining.

Now on to...

The bad stuff.

This film takes itself a tad too seriously. The music was waaaaay over the top and suffered from Hanz Zimmer's "Baaaa baaaa baaaaaaaaaaaaaa" means something epic is happening trope. The plot is simple, but the film tries to dress itself up as being important and artistic.

[BLACKOUT]Some of the imagery like boy Bruce being lifted to the light by bats was just corny as hell, but treated dead pan serious by the film.[/BLACKOUT]

[BLACKOUT]The Flash/Cyborg/Aquaman footage looked so obviously shoehorned in, luckily it didn't last too long though. The photograph of Diana did make me excited for Wonder Woman though.

Speaking of Flash. Sorry to say but his costume looked pretty damn goofy in that scene with the nightmare sequence. [/BLACKOUT]

Like Man of Steel, this film had some pacing problems. It felt a little bloated yet formulaic in the third act.

The reason for Batman fighting Superman felt contrived and the way the fight ended over a misunderstanding due to them both having a mother called Martha just came off as silly. The fight itself was fine although a bit badly choreographed. I liked the traps Batman set at the start, but after that it got a bit tedious with the repeated gas grenade, pummel formula.

And now on to my major major gripe with this film. Jesse Eisenberg and his awful, awful portrayal of Heath Ledger er I mean Lex Luthor. What the hell was Snyder thinking letting him act like this? When has Luthor ever been such an unhinged buffoon? It's like Eisenberg was told to play Toyman with the weird lolly fetish. Every scene he was in he ruined. He nearly ruined the movie for me.

[BLACKOUT]Killing Superman I didn't have a problem with at all, because as we all know he's coming back. I wasn't thrilled that they went through with it as I think it achieves very little due to the sacrifice being immediately nullified on the last shot, but I guess they had to make that fan service.[/BLACKOUT]

Overall, a fun film with a lot of good fan service (Aside from terrible Lex portrayal), which looks good and is acted well. A few minor gripes here and there.

I'm giving it a 7/10 (It would have gotten an 8 if they'd done Lex properly)

Just got back from watching "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice". Great, awesome movie.

I was disappointed that the battle with Batman and Superman ended with Batman winning.... but Batman kind of cheated...because he use the kryptonite. In a real fair battle, Batman would never win against Superman.

And the ending.... a bit of a bummer....So Superman "died".... and there's two funeral....Do they really have to kill off Clark Kent too?

I was disappointed that the secret identity of Superman is killed off.

I feel that....

since there's two funeral, it's a bit weird. I mean, obviously there can only be one "corpse" in one of the coffins...

Meaning, one coffin is empty. And it's very obvious, that the coffin carrying Superman is the empty one. Because at the end, when Lois is standing over Clark Kent's coffin, she scattered soil over Clark Kent's coffin...... and then the soil started to levitate before it cuts to credits.

But I guess Superman has to "die" to redeem/atone himself for all the mass destructions cause by him during those battle scenes. And so the world will see him as a hero and not a false god.
