I’m not that interested in seeing another Batman solo film in the near future. If WB does pursue this, I am dramatically opposed to seeing another Nolan Dark Knight series retread. We’ve seen it, they told the stories that Nolan wanted to tell, but there’s no need to revisit. If they want to explore some different thematic territory, then I have this to offer:
#1- We need to see Robin. The real Robin. Not a grown-up cop with Robin as his (unused) real name. This would be a great way to correct the mistakes of the Shumaker movies. This Robin should be a capable companion to his senior partner, but independent enough to be part of his own crew, a.k.a. the Teen Titans. Same goes for Batgirl.
#2- Get out of Gotham. I realize this is blasphemous for some; “Gotham is a character!” No, it’s not. It’s a city. Crime and crises happen elsewhere too; Batman could get involved in a global mystery.
#3- Use new villains. Instead of being hung up on whether a new actor can top Ledger’s performance as the Joker, why not adapt characters not seen in live-action yet? Start with the Morrison-era bad guys. Out of the “classic” rogues’ gallery, maybe there’s been enough time past to for an updated Riddler, but we still haven’t seen Man-Bat or Clayface. Also, Anarky comes to mind as a minor threat.
