Wow, this thread is definitely interesting to read in light of TDK's release...

And may I present...the SAGA OF FLAWLESSVICTORY! :hehe:

It's just common sense at this point. IM is on its way to $310 mil. The reviews for TDK won't top IM (currently at 93% on RT) and the WOM for IM has been extraordinary and the week to week percentage dropoffs at the BO have been nothing short of amazing. Just looking at the numbers and putting the fanboy pom-poms away, it is obvious that TDK will not top IM.

...FlawlessVictory, there are only so many ways you can say, "No way TDK will beat IM" before it starts getting juuust a bit tiresome to read.

BUT!

I originally had this movie pegged at around $250 - $265 mil domestic with no shot at $300 mil and definitely no shot in hell in topping Iron Man. However, a couple of weeks ago, I kind of felt that it could get up to $275 mil. Now with the more I see (commercials) and read and getting hyped for it myself, part of me thinks this movie actually has a shot at topping $300 mil. :wow:

It would be quite an amazing accomplishment to have two superhero movies gross more than $300 mil in the same year. I hope it happens.

Hehe, the hype has even turned you to the dark side!

Most excellent. :hehe:
So glad you have joined us, btw. :yay:

I wonder what he's saying now that it only took TDK 11 days to pass all other movies this year hell by the end of the weak it might even break 400 :0

Amazing- it is a typical Wednesday here in my town in the deepest English shires.

And my local cinema's gates are plastered with notes informing one and all that The Dark Knight has sold out for the day!

On a Wednesday!

I've never seen anything like this before.

Thats pretty awesome. I saw TDK again on monday night and it was pretty packed in there as well.

Mummy 3's tomatometer went online today.

5%

:lmao:

Hopefully people will have some taste and stay away from that thing....and watch TDK again! :hehe:

The new Mummy has "dvd" and "Chinese take away" written all over it.

I think this thread has sort of become dated... Batman has no competition in 2008 no more...:woot:

Well TDK has locked number one movie of the year easily. I guess the only question now is what will it end at and when will it actually lose steam.

On a side note why is it that this is the only website there is that gives me trouble. Everyother site I visit loads up in less than a second yet this one takes almost a full minute.

The Dark Knight Tops 4th Straight Weekend!
Source: ComingSoon.net, Box Office Mojo
August 10, 2008

ComingSoon.net has posted the box office estimates, which show that The Dark Knight once again won the weekend!

Despite two more wide releases having entered theaters on Wednesday, The Dark Knight topped the box office for a fourth straight weekend, adding an estimated $26 million for a massive domestic total of $441.5 million. If the estimate holds, then the Christopher Nolan-directed film has surpassed Shrek 2 ($441.226 million) to climb to the third spot on the all-time domestic blockbuster list, trailing just Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope ($460.998 million) and Titanic ($600.788 million). Warner Bros. Pictures said it expects "Dark Knight" to end up with about $520 million domestically. The movie cost $185 million to make.

Internationally, The Dark Knight added $35.1 million at 7,000 theaters and has pushed its overseas total to $263 million for a worldwide total of $704.5 million.

1. The Dark Knight

2. Iron Man

3. The Incredible Hulk

The more and more I hear the response and the hype from people who have no idea who the hell Jett is or what SuperHeroHype contains - the more and more I am convinced that The Dark Knight may very well be the number one movie come 2008.

I am thinkin it has the possibility to be in the 300 million dollar range.

This comes not from my own personal hype, but again - from people who know nothing about the character outside of the movies, and the love seen for Batman Begins.

Indeed Batman already has a Big Blockbuster hit movie in his favor already going into this upcoming sequel . Where Iron Man is for the most part not a very popular comic book Marvel Comics character to The General Public (like Spider-Man, Wolverine , Hulk even Captain America ) to the comic book fanboys & fangirl "Iron Man / Tony Stark" has a fanbase, but it no where the size of Bats, Sups, or Spidey not even close . So that may very well be a huge disatvanage for him next Summer .

As for The Hulk movie, Due to IMO the God awful origin movie in "2003" (Some liked it other didn't). It's going to be alot harder . But if the story is good as the action is, then we might just get a massvie surprise like we did with Bay's Transformers (IMO The Best Summer Blockbuster movie of summer 07 .)

Still I see The Dark Knight winning the superhero Summer blockbuster movie title both among the fans & The Box Office next Summer .

The Battle of The Billionaires WAYNE ENTERPRISE vs. Stark Enterprise

Their's no freaking contest BATMAN's going to win . :batty:

TDK could possibly get past Indy 4 & Potter domestically. But Worldwide, it wouldn't have a chance of being #1

It's already in the bag that Worldwide Potter got it . But Dom. (If TDK is good and I mean really Good .... Like it totally owned BB and was even better film.) I could possibly see it making second or third place Dom.

Looking back at the comments I made in this thread early on. I'm happy that most of what I said about TDK came to pass .

This is the official nail in the coffin for this thread (As Summer 2008 comes to a close .) What a wild ride it's been .

'Dark Knight' swings past $500 million mark :batty:

By DAVID GERMAIN – 2 hours ago

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Batman's rich alter-ego Bruce Wayne has added half a billion dollars to his riches. "The Dark Knight" on Sunday became the second movie in Hollywood history to top $500 million at the domestic box office, raising its total to $502.4 million, according to estimates from distributor Warner Bros.

The film hit that mark in just over six weeks, half the time it took "Titanic," which reached $500 million in a little more than three months. "Titanic," the biggest modern blockbuster, remains No. 1 on the domestic charts with $600.8 million.

Despite its brisk pace, "The Dark Knight" is not expected to approach the total for "Titanic," which put up smaller numbers week after week but lingered at the top of the box office for months.

Dan Fellman, head of distribution at Warner Bros., said he expects "The Dark Knight" to finish at about $530 million, though it could reach $550 million if business persists as strongly as it has.
"I keep raising the number because it just keeps holding better than expected," Fellman said.

"The Dark Knight" will climb to about $505 million by Labor Day, the conclusion of Hollywood's busy summer season. That amounts to nearly one-eighth of Hollywood's overall summer revenue of $4.2 billion, which edges the previous summer record of $4.18 billion set last year, according to box-office tracker Media By Numbers.

Factoring in today's higher admission prices, "The Dark Knight" would need to take in about $900 million to match the number of tickets sold by "Titanic."

Labor Day weekend was generally sleepy at theaters, with a rush of new movies failing to find much favor with audiences. Through Sunday, Paramount's comedy "Tropic Thunder" remained No. 1 for the third straight weekend with $11.5 million.

The 20th Century Fox sci-fi thriller "Babylon A.D." with Vin Diesel debuted in second place with $9.7 million, while Overture Films' espionage drama "Traitor," starring Don Cheadle, opened at No. 5 with $7.9 million.
Premiering at No. 7 was Lionsgate's spoof flick "Disaster Movie" with $6.2 million. MGM's campus comedy "College" opened well outside the top 10 with $2.1 million.

The top 12 movies took in $75.2 million, down 23 percent from the same weekend last year, when "Halloween" opened with $26.4 million.
"This is kind of an inauspicious end to a really incredible summer," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers. "We limped past the finish line."

From a partisan perspective, I am just glad it clobbered Spiderman. I have nothing against the character or Marvel in general, but I found the ill-informed self satisfaction of some of his alleged fans quite irritating at the time.

I'm really pleased that TDK did so well. It was a kick ass film & deserves no less. I also say that about Iron Man & 300, even though 300 isn't part of '08 but still. It was a comic book adaptation & made a ton of cash. I didn't hold out much for Iron Man but was so happy it didn't suck & did really well too. I wish the new Hulk flick had done better but I loved it nevertheless.
