BBC's Sherlock: Series 3

There's no doubt most of us are smarter than her. She really dropped the ball on that list.

True. One thing that stuck out to me there... is it just me or did Roger Moore look a LOT like Cumberbatch back when he played Holmes? The resemblance is uncanny, at least in that pic she posted.

Sh**, you're right. Whoops, now I feel stupid.

But she still didn't know Rathbone played Sherlock Holmes! SO I WAS SMARTER! I WAS SMARTER!

It is a serious omission from the list, considering how the Rathbone films influenced Sherlock.

She didn't omit Rathbone, she omitted Brett. Which is also a very serious omission, considering how popular the Brett series was.

Yeah, it wasn't that she omitted Rathbone; she said in the article that she never knew he played Holmes until now.

Reaction the new episode is certainly mixed but I thought it was incredible.

Though for a series with only 3 episodes I'm shocked at how little focus has been on story and more comedy and characters

I actually liked the change to the format of the episode. I think it's the best second episode of the series, and it looks like Sherlock's little dig at Mycroft's loneliness came back to bite him in the arse.

Yeah it was definitely a change in pace. As individual episodes I rate them very highly but a series that consists of only 3 episodes with an inevitable long gap coming again it's a little disappointing that there was not a solid plot though any of the episodes. Even tonights one still had a LOT more character/comedy moments than any case or story.

Just curious, why can't BBCA license this show? Now that Doctor Who is on there, it would probably give the channel an even bigger ratings boost.

I mean, look at how huge the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary and Christmas finale events were. They were huge and the ratings were the biggest ever for the channel. Get Sherlock on there and the channel would be breaking out even more.

Ratings on PBS for Sherlock don't seem all that much bigger.

It is rather dumb to not air the shows at the same time (or at least on the same day).

Since the average viewer is young, and probably not an idiot, they will just find some other way to watch it.

Then again, the American demographic is rather irrelevant to the show's longevity, so maybe they just don't care.

I was fine with there not being a big case for Sherlock and John to work on this episode. This series seems to be dealing a bit with the loneliness of the characters, John after Sherlock "died", Mycroft because he is different, and now Sherlock because of John & Mary. So the episode needed to have character and relationship moments and so we needed to see how the relationship was changing.

You hit the nail on the head. Sherlock doesn't require a massive budget and is on an irregular schedule, so the overseas markets aren't that relevant. Anyways, it's the same situation over here, we don't get most of your programs within 24 hours (obviously not the same day, because then we'd be first).

I get that completely and would agree had the series be longer but I think because there is such a limit the cases should be interwoven a little better. That's what series 2 excelled at IMO and this series has truly wonderful moments but it's not really interwoven the two aspects well and so far the overall stories have ended up taking a backseat. Looks to be a different story next week due to the arrival of the main villain.
I'm not disappointed at all but it just felt like another episode that was still reintroducing us to their lives for the first half which is a little annoying seeing as by this time next week it would have finished again. Over time I'll probably appreciate it more.

Yeah it was definitely more personal than other mid-series episodes.

That was an emotional and humourous episode. The last scene where they're enjoying with the music also sent chills down my spine, since who knows what's in store for these friends with the creepy man spying on Sherlock - who's probably the main villain.

And also this because of the Promo, where things don't really look good.

Yup. That's why I don't get they don't set up the same deal as Doctor Who. With Doctor Who on BBCA, it started airing virtually at the same time as the UK.

I haven't watched the second episode yet, but I really enjoyed the first. Wasn't perfect, but the reunion scenes were fantastic and all of Molly's scenes were perfect. I adore her so much.

Like last weeks episode this one pretty personal with the characters.

Its hard to fathom next week will be the last one for who knows how long.

Another great episode, it was nice to see how much Sherlock has become more human with being around Watson and now Mary who is proven her value in both the life of Holmes & Watson.

This episode worked for me. Drunk Sherlock. Public Speaking Sherlock. Internet Forum Sherlock. Best Man Sherlock.

I reeally liked this episode. Very different feel, but what the hell. Yes.

This episode came together in the end but I was quickly bored by the whole stag night sequence and ghost investigation.

Discussion from the tumblrs

Not sure if this has been noticed but. One of the telegrams was all the normal but at the end it said “wish your family could have seen this” and Mary looked very worried. The person who left the message was CAM(Charles Augustus Magnussen).

Magnussen is who Mickelson is playing.

Also perhaps I've just been watching too much Hannibal, with its antler imagery (and the other Mickelson) but Mary definitely has horns in this shot.
