Batman Begins BEGINS Costume Sculpt...My work in progress

What you are seeing is the sculpture of the mask made from clay.
A mold will then be taken of this sculpture which will be what will allow me to reproduce this in rubber.
Once the mold is made of this sculpture, it is removed from the sculpture...and subsequently the sculpture is usually destroyed. Rubber is injected into the mold and when it's cured you can remove it and you'll have a copy of your sculpture but cast in rubber. Which in this case is my cowl.

David

WOW!! that is intense, i cant beleive you destroy all the work:eek:

Makes me want to cry...:p

David, i wasn't sleeping well last night and this came to me,..Since the project is nearing the finish line rapidly, what materials are you going to make the Begins suit? tThe exact same as the movie's or something you perferr more...
I love the suit and to be as close as possible is soo flippin' cool...but that gonna take some $$$ don't you think? :gg:

I'm working on the cowl right now......you guys wont believe your eyes.....at least that's what I'm hoping. :)

I've been trying to get the same off set look that the cowl has because it's not symmetrical like the Panther or Returns cowls were...and if I make it symmetrical it wont look like the begins cowl but something kinda close instead. That's how far ahead I am on this the only problem is I do run a costuming business and havent had a lot of time to finish this up as I'd have liked because it can only be worked on in my spare time...something I havent had much of lately.....

The suit will be in foam latex just like the movie one...and I'll be getting a face lift to look like Bale also....nah, not quite but if I could for this suit I'd certainly consider it...:)

David

On the same sort of topic, what happened to Bobby C's version of the Batman suit from Begins? All the pictures/progress that he made on the suit seems to have disappeared. Anyone know what happened?

-Merc

P.S. Suit looks great so far David.

A few more cowl progress pics..

You can see that the left side of the screen is still being tooled. I'm trying to get the same unsymmetrical proportion on that side as the screen used cowl seems to have...uhh..not easy so forgive the tool marks.

The rest is moving well...will be finalizing the entire neck and then I'll stop taking pics of this covered up..:)

The right side is pretty much ready for smothening down and blending while the left side still needs eye and mouth opening details to be made accurate but it's cool to see the 3/4 profile shots as they're starting to look like the Wizard mag cover and that's kinda cool..:)

I think so...I mean I'm happy with both the position and the general shape but they're not long enough yet. Going to make them longer for sure.

At the same time I have not posted any side profile shots yet..... :hq: but when I do then you'll see it as I do and the placement of the horns will make much more sense..:)

I see. The horn length looks alright to me, but you're the expert so go with your own ideas.

You know the old saying...4 eyes are better than 2.. :D

I really cant wait to start taking full pics of this without covering up half the assed areas...... :oo

Thanks my friend..:)
Still...I'll see what they look like just a tadd longer then decide. In some shots of the sculpt they look fine...but in others they do look a bit short.

The side profile is what's really kept me busy...cant wait to hear what you guys think of that when it's ready.

David

so far so good . does the mouth opening angle more to the nose is it like the way you have it? that's the only thing i caught

But the mouth cut out still looks a bit off to me.

Thanks buddy.

Yes you're right about the mouth...but once the full neck is complete I'll work on getting the exact shape there. It'll be easier for me to get the right shape once the rest of the details are finalized.

This is all pretty exciting for me to see it all finally come together.

David

It's pretty exitig for use too ;)
Thanks for sharing all your incredible work man.

Hey buddy thanks for saying so.

Just for that here's one I wasnt going to post...shows more of the over all head shape and the longer horn on the right side...pay no attention to the left side of the sculpt as it's as always when I post my pics that side is in the rough stage.

David,

When you make the cast of the cowl and pour the latex roughly how much latex will you be using. Reason why I ask is I have finally made the two part cast put then together and will go and get the latex but want to work out roughly how much to get, the cowl will be for a 24 inch noggin.

You cowl looks the bomb

Hi Damo,

Whenever I slush latex into a mold I always pour from a 5 gallon pale of latex. For a cowl you probably wont use more than 3 gallons but remember you want to fill the mold up completely with latex...let it dwell for whatever amount of time you consider necessary then pour it out. The thickness of the latex is built up by the ultracal mold absorbing the moisture from the latex and thus creating your positive mask. You'll get many cowls from a 5 gallon pale but it will also be the easiest way to cast them up.

Cant wait to see yours!

damn david thats awesome work !! i really really really like it !

Here's a few more....

The head was still a bit too wide here...already fixed.

straightonshaded.jpg

I was happy with the over all evil look it had and general similarities with the original. The brow is still totally off here though.

These were a series of shots I took to see if I could get the Wizard magazine cover image...kinda...The neck was only roughed in at this stage.

IM004386.jpg

What I was looking for was if the 3/4 profile of the eye detail and cheek bones were accurate....as well as the overall shape of the head. A little more rounding at the top of the noggin was needed.....

Thanks for looking and all the kind words thus far.... .
A free suit will go out to each and every member of this board................
