Live By Night reviews are mixed, not real bad.

EW: B-
Indie Wire: C
IGN: 7.5/10

TheWrap said that the movie isn't in the same level of Ben Affleck's other projects, but at the same time, isn't a failure too.

Others sites are saying that the movie doesn't add too much, but that's it.

TheWrap rated it 3.5/10, so whatcha talking about?

48 on metacritic and 20% on RT is bad.

So, Benal. You were right.

Now please, do shamelessly bask on the glory of seeing Affleck getting hate again. You've been hungering for it, I'm sure.

Blitz, why are you not hopelessly panicking and crapping on Affleck due to Live By Night getting BvS reception? :o

That pic is boss though.

Haha, bro I don't give a rat's furry behind if Live by Night gets 10% on RT. Now if a movie is universally considered bad by critics, it does paint a picture of the movie not being upto the mark. Then again, I f**kin love BvS (The UE tho, TC doesn't exist in my head canon). Also even tho I was severely disappointed with Skwad, what with it being a big missed opportunity in many aspects, I believe the reviews were very harsh. It deserves criticisms but I don't think it's a 26% RT movie.

At the end of the day, I just wanna enjoy these movies. That's what ultimately matters.

I know you were joking Pedro, so sorry for the ramblings.

Ehh. The Accountant got mixed response too. I really liked that film. I trust these dumbass critics less and less everyday. Saw R1 being criticized for not being "fun" when its supposed to. What the **** does that even mean? I am not even a big SW fan, but Rogue One was very entertaining.

I will reserve my judgement till I see the movie. For all I know, it could be great. And last I checked, there were only 10 reviews in for RT. Lets not jump to conclusions now.

I'm legit man.

People, Visit the Wonder Woman forums if you want to see my Wonder Woman is a stinker report.

Just here trying to help fanboys lower the expectations.

You're the first person to call me by my real name on here. :funny:

Yeah, I was half-joking, but I'm a little frustrated since I know there's gonna be a good portion who's gonna take a look at the reception of that movie and immediately go back the blind 2014 mentality of "Ben Affleck sucks" along with more cynical vitriol.

I'm still waiting to see The Accountant; I didn't get to catch it in the theaters and I'm waiting for it to be out in good quality...right now there are several movies I wanna see in the theaters coming out at the same time and it's so annoying ($$$$), but Live by Night is definitely one of them...

Ahh. So you guys are in a first name basis. You never told me your name.

Actually, he only knows about it 'cause he read my user description. :hehe:

No one gets in on our budding bromance, not even the idiot. :o :o

Aw, but we could have been the Trinity of this forum. :csad:

Just read a good a portion of the LIVE BY NIGHT reviews. Yikes. Granted it's still a fairly small sample size, but prospects do not look good at all with its current trajectory. If it sticks, that makes a grand total of 4 certified rotten movies that Ben has been in this year.

I swear, the stars have lined up so perfectly for the DCEU to have such a disastrous start. Their golden boy has his first critical failure, in a time where its most crucial for WB to gather up as much goodwill that's remaining, going into the next Batman film.

Help us James Wan...you're our only hope. :o

I'm quite sure no one will think "Hey I was interested in the Batman movie but since "Live By Night" wasnt a critical success, aint gonna watch it". It would have been great if this one was also a huge runaway success critically. But Affleck has more than proven his worth as a director by now.

I'm just saying this isn't going to help the online narrative for the DCEU's waning goodwill. Perhaps it will be fine, but WB really needed a homerun here to change the direction. Batman will presumably start early next year. We have a long 2+ years of speculation and hype, people will be looking at Ben's last effort with a keen eye.

Thats true. I'm hoping I would like it. Its his first big blockbuster. I am sure it will be a learning experience for him which can only bode well for him as a filmmaker while he is working on the Batman. After all so far his filmmaking record has been impeccable. I think DCUE's homerun needs to be WW far more than this movie. But I understand your point.

Also I'm hoping for a July 2018 release date for The Batman.

I feel that the essential components of a "Batman" are less complicated to pin down than a "Live By Night". A film either works for a majority or doesn't, and I'm not saying it's ok for superhero films to be simplistic. But I'd say that with the average one it's easier to please requirements/expectations than with a biopic or adaptation of more "grown-up" material, for instance; and easier to get it to that place where you can say it "works", broadly speaking.

But Batfleck should really sweat at making that script nice and smooth.

I'm pretty sure he was literally sweating while writing it. The pressure is too great. :o

As usual for the DCEU, things aren't looking bright for the solo Batman movie at this point. I'm not going to completely give up hope, but the possibility that Affleck is losing his steam is pretty concerning for a franchise that already can't catch a break.

Frankly, I'm once again under the impression that making a shared film universe for DC was a mistake. Not only has Marvel already beaten them to it, but it seems that they'll always be stuck living in their shadow. As someone who's always preferred DC over Marvel, that's really unfortunate.
