That's exactly the response I expected lol. A lot of chest beating and "I'm a professional and you're not" Kind of vibes.

That's an extraordinarily condescending response.

Gee...I wonder why. :whatever:

I never thought I would miss people pissing themselves over a Ben Affleck quote but now I kinda do...

I don't agree with what he said in that regard with dismissing those views, but I hope we don't scare Mark Hughes off and make him hate posting here. I hope he continues posting here.

I mean is it just me or did Mark say nothing wrong there? In fact he was absolutely right in what he said. To call him out on his integrity just because he liked a movie you didnt, is just a ****** thing to do. And because he defended his position like an adult and shared a complete well thoughout answer, people are mocking him for writing a long post? But its okay I guess when people write long posts to insult a DCEU movie, or when critics write horrendous things about the movie you hate, thats okay because that suits the agenda. Seriously just google the cancerous things being said about these movies, and it will make you recoil.

This hypocritical attitude from the fandom disgusts me. Anyway thank you for being on the board Mark, and hope to hear more from you soon :)

The thread went from a civil in-depth debate into a short sharp labeling competition and word count check from the onlookers, reasonings for "why I agree or disagree with you" is out of the window for now.

Anyway, we need news on Affleck's schedule for the next 3 months.

I feel bad for ben having to deal with the diehard fanboys constantly asking about the script. The guy is working so backup

All of this is shameful and kind of pathetic if you ask me. It's beyond ridiculous anymore and never has my head hurt more by just skimming past posts. Instead of enjoying a genre for what it is, good movies or bad (or life and death!) things have turned into standoff's rather than discussion's. It's pretty bad and is something to be embarrassed about.

Who am I kiddin'! This is great. When DC films will continue to push their films past 2020, the usual's will pull out the "Wonder Woman 3 is DC's LAST CHANCE!!!1111!!!"

ANYTHING! We need anything for the love of f$%^ing gawd.

This thread has been insufferable for pages now. We get it, folks. Affleck is a big whiny crybaby. New topic, please.

How about this? Affleck being positive about his experience as Batman:

LOL this thread reminds me of that scene from Jay and Silent Bob. Go check out "Whats the Internet" on youtube. So so accurate from our man Ben Affleck :D

All Mark was asking fans was not to jump to conclusions regarding the quality (or lack thereof) of WW movie based of rumors, I think it perfectly reasonable for him to make such a request.

As far as Affleck's recent comments go, Mark was justified in saying that we should be little more patient and give him some time, and not jump to conclusions (again.)

After all, Affleck was incredibly busy last year.

I don't get why some DC fans are angry all the time and feel the need to counter every argument that seems to support current DCEU.

The irony is that same angry and bitter fans want light hearted DC movies. lol.

That's nice to see. I LOL'd at him finally addressing Sad Affleck.

In terms of a new topic...I had some general thoughts and questions that have been percolating in my head about the solo Batman movie. Other than the fact that Deathstroke is in the film, it's tough to really speculate on anything yet- we don't know the size of his role or even if he's the main antagonist. What we do have at this point are Affleck's comments about doing the movie and the level of quality he's hoping to achieve with it. So that being said, I guess what I'm really curious about is what's going to be that thing that makes this movie stand out as a fresh interpretation of the character? I feel like that the idea of him being an older experienced Batman won't necessarily have the same novelty by the time we get to a solo movie because we'll have already seen that depiction in several other films DC. In my mind, if Affleck wants his movie to really carry on the cinematic legacy like he's been alluding to, he has to find something new and relevant to say with the character. In other words, what might his take be? I don't think just being more comics accurate in terms of the mythology and the aesthetic is going to be enough to impress people at this point, especially because we've already seen his version of the character.

Personally I see how this could be a pretty big creative challenge. Burton and Nolan for instance had the advantage of being able to present their visions all within one film, for maximum impact. Discovering what the Batmobile is, the suit, the Batcave, Gotham, the villains, the music, the visual look- all the pieces that make up that world viewed through a particular lens. Whereas Affleck does have an advantage of inheriting an in-motion universe with established history and relationships to draw from, he also has the disadvantage of going into his first solo movie without the same type of novelty factor enjoyed by other directors who weren't working in a shared universe. Granted, he can probably reinvent a lot of that stuff but he may be limited to the extent to which he can mess with what's been established. Like, will he/should he use Junkie and Zimmer's Batman theme from BvS for instance?

It being a creative challenge isn't it a bad thing- on the contrary that could be the thing that helps fuel the project to get where it needs to be. I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about this big picture stuff in terms of how they can see Affleck approaching this movie. Based on his comments to me it seems pretty safe to assume that he doesn't intend to make a "villain of the week" standard type of Batman movie. He knows it has a lot to live up to based on the particular cinematic legacy of this character.

It's all pretty open-ended musings on my part, but I thought I'd throw it out there and see if it sparks any discussion.

The funny part was his response being called "extraordinarily condescending." Hardly. The guy Mark replied to had said he would only "pay attention to journalists around this subject if they display a decent level of objectivity and critical faculty." I think it's safe to recognize that for what it is: an insult.

A passive aggressive one at that

He's made statements about Batman's "World's Greatest Detective" aspect being played up in his solo film in the past along with a subtly The Maltese Falcon comparison so there's a chance that this will have elements of an old school hardboiled detective noir

Who's jumping to conclusions? All I'm seeing people say, that they won't be surprised if the rumor ends up being true, given the track record and approach.

I don't remember any posts, where fans were against Affleck taking his time. Everyone is supportive of the idea that if he needs time to finish the script, he should get it. Unless he feels the whole project is too much pressure for him. Maybe it's a good idea to pass it someone who's more excited.

At the same time, Affleck's earlier statements confused fans.

To bring this back to the thread's topic of Affleck's Batman film, is it believed that Affleck essentially has free reign with perhaps only budget constraining him?

Bigger question is who's in control?

No matter how much people say they have free reign on the cbms, I'll never believe it.

That was the first thing that came to my mind. It also makes me optimistic that Affleck is coming off directing an homage to the old classic Prohibition era gangster films, so that will be fresh on his mind, because that genre goes hand in hand with the old noir hard boiled detective films and both of those were huge influences on the Batman mythology, just look at The Animated Series for one example (the Dark noir atmosphere, the guys in suits, trench coats, and fedoras, etc). Those are the kinds of things I would love to see in a Batman solo film, and paying homage to those storytelling influences would fit right in with what Snyder did in BvS, with all those literary and film references (King Arthur, Wizard Of Oz, etc. etc.). It really makes the films feel like the characters are part of our larger, collective mythology, if that makes sense
