I liked Let Me In but I prefer the Swedish film.

10 Cloverfield Lane is on my Netflix queue. Hopefully I'll enjoy it more than I did with Abrams's film.

With dawn reeves is able to naturly continue from rises,do film that respected originals, and put his own stamp in good and exciting sci fi film in own right.

There really isn't any bad news here.affleck stepping down as director here hurt my intrest in DCEU.this renewed it.

Have you ever seen "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (2011)? Is your only exposure to the franchise the Charlton Heston film from the 60s/70s? If you answered no to the first question and yes to the second one I highly recommend you give the "rebooted" film series a try, it's played much more straight.

Only Charlton Heston film, and I did try to read the book at one point. Okay, you guys convinced me, I'll look it up.

I was never really into the Planet of the Apes franchise either, but these new films have made a fan out of me. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a strong film, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is (for my money) one of the best sci-if films in recent memory. I'd definitely suggest checking both out.

Matt Reeves has been a fan-favorite to direct a superhero film for a while. Watch Dawn and you'll see why.

It's just that I am very picky when it comes to SF and it is not the type of science fiction I am usually into. I always saw it as one of those silly sci-fi stories '50s and '60s are well-known for. But it won't kill me to watch these films and it seems to be a must if I want to get familiar with Reeves.

I did wonder whether that was a remake of "Let the Right One In".

Umm Reeve's directed Cloverfield. Not 10 Cloverfield Lane.

I would actually put off a second JL film for at least 5 years, no Gotham Sirens or Black Adam movie, just the core JL members. Let them develop first and foremost, then do another JL film. Stability is the key right now. That is of course if Affleck is still around. I'm still not 100% convinced he will be at this stage.
I'm more hopeful today than I was yesterday. Purely speculation on my part, but I think the horrid reception to these films has tainted Ben's interest in participating within this universe.

But with Reeves, it's a small baby step in (crossing fingers) the right direction for his IP, at least. That softens the blow in being tied down to a multi-film contract.

Let us know what you think.

If only the DCEU weren't rudderless, and WB would act quickly and decisively.

If there was a choice between Matt Reeves and Affleck from the very start, Matt Reeves got my pick. He's really good with a large scope blockbusters while focusing on character. Reeves would be like a more palatable, warmer version of Nolan.

This is a great step-up just like Patty Jenkins replacing MacLaren. Now I need someone else to direct Superman. I give David Ayer a pass because of the rushed and sloppy script. He's still better than Snyder because there were great character moments in Suicide Squad.

Ayer gets hate but this is the guy who directed End of Watch and Fury. And the guy wrote Training Day. That gives him more than a pass from me. The guy is a talented filmmaker, it doesnt matter if you like SS or not.

It matters when it's a completely different genre.

I adore what Martin Campbell did for the spy action-pic (both times he re-invented it), but I don't need to see him take another shot at a comic book movie ever again after Green Lantern.

Certain directors are practically different creators when you move them into a new tier of budgets or genre. The gritty, character-based Ayer that I expected and loved to tackle a comic book property, is not who showed up to direct Suicide Squad. If WB happens to have another directorial fall-out with one more person...I'm actually hoping it's Ayer. Couldn't care less about his apology to be honest. He's had one more shot than the hundreds out there who would die for that spot.

I dont have a problem if people say he is not suited for a CB film. But people here are saying he is not a good filmmaker which is remotely not true. Movies exist outside the comicbook genre. I am not even a fan of SS or Ayer, but to claim he isnt a talented/good filmmaker is just not right.

damn straight.

Agreed and would honestly be ok if he parted.

I like Fury a lot. I think Ayer directed the Suicide characters as a team really well. I blame the script for the plot and not giving some characters enough moments. The movie was rushed so I wouldn't blame Ayer too much. He made creative choices that made the movie successful and the casting was great. Most characters were done really well.

Glad Ayer is getting another chance with Gotham City Sirens. I hope he gets a better screenplay to direct. I think Ayer will improve more than Snyder with all the chances he got.

Anyway sorry for diverting. Back to Batman and Reeves.

Well you can blame Ayer since he was the screenwriter on Suicide Squad...

I am very excited to see what Matt Reeves does with Batman. Deadline makes it sound like they offered the "franchise" to him, and not just this one movie. So maybe a Batman trilogy directed by Matt Reeves is likely? Assuming everything falls into place?

WB allowed Nolan almost full control of Batman Begins (with a few mandates), and look at the films he had under his belt at that time.

Reeves has Cloverfield, Let Me In, a very successful Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and an impressive-looking War for the Planet of the Apes. I don't see a doormat director here. His stock is only continuing to rise.

Can't allow yourself even a little bit of excitement, huh? :funny:
Dont be naive. This is a shared universe. Do you think they're going to give full creative control to anyone? Especially somebody isn't st the level of Affleck post-Argo or Nolan post-TDK? Hell no. Even those guys would have to work around some things here and there if they were a part of the DCEU.

I'm looking forward to this a lot more than a Affleck film. But I'm not excited. I'm a fan of Cloverfield, but I only saw it once in theaters. Same thing with Let Me In, which was well directed but not that original. Dawn was OK for me but I can't criticize his directing most of the time. I have to see the new one to get a better picture. No matter what, he elevates the script. But if the script is god awful, it may turn out to be an average movie at best. I can't get excited for that.

I'll wait and see.

Hope the same thing that happened with 'Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes' will happen with 'The Batman'.
Reeves replaced Wyatt (October 2012). Reeves ordered a rewrite (Also October 2012) and started shooting in time (April 2013).

I'm not that excited but I think Matt Reeves is a solid choice.

Why do you say that script could be "god awful" ?
