Ben Affleck To Team With DC’s Geoff Johns On Standalone ‘Batman’ Film - Part 5

So Ben has been dealing with rehab all this time, huh? ****.

I think rewrite is probably for the best. Why? Look, when the stuff was getting written before, it was when Ben Affleck was going to be writer, director and star. Now, if Reeves is at the helm, he will have time to assert his own influences on the story, which is probably a good thing.

I'm concerned with all Affleck has going on if he should really come back? I guess the performance of Justice League will matter.

But to be perfectly honest, I think it was a mistake to go with Affleck in the first place and pick a much older mid-40s Batman. Affleck is now facing all this derision and criticism when he got to a very comfortable place in his career where he didn't have to face the expectations of wearing a superhero costume. It was something he had tried before, and it didn't work out well for him and it got to a point where he said he'd never do one of these movies again.

AGAIN, dude? :whatever:

If anything, WB should have taken a page out of Marvel's book and signed these actors to six-film contracts. Granted, that would have all but guaranteed that Affleck wouldn't have signed on in the first place, but then we wouldn't have so much drama over a major player in the DCEU potentially calling it quits after two films.

Ya and some people insist there are no bias on building negative narrative against DC (for clicks or whatever reasons)?

Fans who care about this stuff already guessed 2017 filming is not likely, and 2018 start date is reasonable, some podcast guys have said it as well, and then this was confirmed by Justin Kroll today, then this article put out the headline "Batman production delayed..."
And they also made sure to put a semi-colon on the headline to pair up "Affleck in rehab" and "Filming won't start until after the summer". Those two things aren't really related at all.

That is fantastic news if true. Hope Reeves puts his stamp on it....hopefully by being the main writer.

It's actually not a problem for the production of the film in the slightest. It's quite clear that it's not likely to go before the camera any time this year due to MR's commitments with War Apes, so a complete rewrite is fine. In fact, we should all be pleased that Reeves is taking this much control if the report is true.
Agreed.

Reeves had the upper hand, and he leveraged it for creative control over all phases and (i assume) a **** load of cash. Good for him!

I'm sitting here trying to figure out why a gaming website would post an article about Ben Affleck.
this has been happening with the Video game news out lets since the comic movies became a thing one of the first people on it was victor Lucas of EPN.tv or just known as the electric play ground and jugdment day state side when it was just small thing on G4 that has been around since the time of both ign and gamespot with first the first E3.
when he started it with tommy tolrico that created video games live the musical orchestra show .

also victor lucas was and still is big fan of super hero hype and put it on shout out on his the electic play ground before renaming EPN.tv when he expanded it and had few reviewers from other gamer news out help host his review show which he two and still did the interview and preview side onthe electric play ground. he merged them recently cause the tv netowrk got weird and since he was independent want to keep the show as it was and is on youtube these days but he started the trend

but he's an admitted geek. So that was his own reason next to him being former actor that became dev and made this show cause he loved the games industry and added the movieand tv side cause of the comic movies emergence

what really started it though was when normal news out let's like the Washington post and every other normal news outlet from abc to Nbc and even Canadian national news like CTV and CBC and more around the world started to fallow on fallowing video game news as important entertainment and the comic movies with heroes merging more into both games and movies with this time period . it's pretty much every where now.

this is more of full circle thing

Would you honestly want someone around who's heart isn't in it?

Why do people think this is getting a rewrite?

Its absolute common sense that when the new director comes in, specially if its a director like Matt Reeves, he would do a polish on the script. Thats normal business. Kroll tweeted that production for this movie is not gonna start until 2018, and not suspiciously at all, the very next day some blogger from /film had "insider info" that the script was being rewritten.

Ben Affleck Won’t Let Alcohol Rehab Get In The Way Of The Batman

Ben Affleck sure has been giving The Batman a hard time, dropping out of the director’s seat to focus on his role as the Caped Crusader after weeks of reassuring fans that he’d helm the film back in January and worrying fans that his alcohol rehabilitation would get in the way of playing DC’s Batman.
Yesterday, Affleck took to social media to inform fans that he’s just finished rehab treatment for alcohol addiction and though many applaud the Hollywood actor and director for his courage to open up about and share his struggles, other fans seem to correlate this issue with the sudden directorial role drop out while others worry that the treatment might affect his work on The Batman.

I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weeklytoday, a source reveals that Affleck’s alcohol rehab didn’t affect the Hollywood celebrity’s involvement in the film, implying that it had nothing to do with his decision to give up his role as The Batman’s director.
The source also assures that Affleck is still working with Geoff Johns, DC’s chief creative officer, on the script for The Batman’s sequel.
Still, though the reasons behind Affleck’s decision to give up the reins on The Batman may remain a mystery, it’s great to hear that the celebrity is taking time to see to his personal health. A healthy Affleck means he won’t just do a better job at being DC’s Batman, he’ll be able to attend to his children and wife more too.
Affleck will return to the big screen in Justice League which premieres November 17, 2017.

He says he is working on the script, but I find it odd he doesnt explicitly say he will star as Bat man. The timing of the delay seems weird too. If the studio is going to recast, then they probably want to wait as long as possible to prevent the news from hurting JL's box office.

Slashfilm is reliable and it has a fine editor in Peter Sciretta. No reason why an exclusive of theirs should be seen as fluff or for other sites not to pick it up. A benefit of following certain people's work for long enough.

Would you honestly want someone around who's heart isn't in it?
No I would not. Still, the whole issue could've been avoided if they signed someone who was actively willing to star in quite a few films, ala Marvel.

If the studio was recasting, why would Affleck be working on the script? He is only doing that because he is Batman in the movie.

Jesus I have never seen this before...unless every day in every article Ben Affleck says "I will be playing Batman" while wearing an "I am Batman" shirt, next to Batmobile with a script in hand that he has scribbled little bats on it along with a Batarang in his pocket everyone assumes he is not playing Batman. It is like one big clickbait/Hype self-reinforced delusion!

How do you know they didnt? Last heard Affleck was still in this movie JL and JL2.

What people assume /= what Affleck actually feels.

My understanding is that he is only contractually obligated for one more film, which means if he stars in The Batman, then he doesn't have to appear in JL2. With the exception of a brief cameo in SS (and maybe WW), he essentially has a three film contract. For an expanding DCEU where they will (presumably) want to make more JL and Batman films, that seems pretty insufficient. And now here we are.

Marvel locked their main cast up for at least six films each, presumably for three solo films and three Avengers films. While you don't have to exercise all six films, you at least have that option, and the actor at least knows that they are contracted to do up to that many films. Gives you more flexibility and alleviates the stress of having to recast a major role right in the thick of things.

Ben's not dumb. He's gonna re-up for a **** ton of money like RDJ did after IM3. You'll start hearing about this after The Batman (movie #3)
