The Dark Knight Rises Ben Mendelsohn as Daggett was Amazing, Burn Gorman as Stryver was too

I've got no idea why, but the first couple of times we saw Stryver, before he was named, I was convinced Daggett was going to introduce him to somebody as 'my associate Nr. Nygma."

Something about the guy just seemed incredibly Riddler-ish...

Miranda: "You understand only money and the power you think it buys."

[blackout]...foreshadows Daggett's end.[/blackout]

I was entertained by his scenes with anyone, even if in the grand scheme of things he doesn't matter all that much. He doesn't [blackout]get Selina the clean slate, he doesn't get to control Wayne Enterprises, he's just a pawn, his own company isn't needed anymore, etc.[/blackout]

I love how Stryver just despairingly asks "has anyone made it?" when he's tossed out on the ice. Both Mendelsohn and Gorman delivered their lines perfectly.

Oh yeah, they were both fantastic. Perfectly played the slimy, despicable ***** they were meant to be. Added a lot of texture to the film, IMO.

Yeah they did pretty well, Daggerts scene with Bane was probably the highlight of them, the look on Stryvers face when it cuts to him as well is very well done.

Daggett and Stryver didn't have some unnecessary character development unlike Blake; most of their scenes were used to advance the plot, not exactly wasted screentime.

Both of them did fine with their roles, they served their purpose. Nothing more, nothing less. But honestly I just did not care for eithers involvement within the plot. So hence my wasted screentime.

My girlfriend whispered to ask me whether he was meant to be The Riddler, so that suggests there was something tangible in the performance to give that impression.

Great thread. Yeah, I really enjoyed these two. I thought the transition from a focus on the mob to a focus on white collar villainous-types made sense and was totally appropriate for the story they were trying to tell.

Also, I love how Daggett actually shared some characteristics with his animated series counterpart. His company produced the facial cream that led to the creation of Clayface, and I even thought him owning a cement company was a very vague allusion to that (cement, clay...there's a connection there). I'm pretty sure there was a plot where he wanted to take over Wayne Enterprises in BTAS too.

Yep, I thought Dagget and his underling were great. I too thought that the underling guy looked exactly like the Riddler. These guys in a way filled the Maronie and Gambol roles as minor villains.
They were excellent casting. Both of them made me think they were d-bags.

A special mention should also go for the loathsome trader who was getting his shoes shined when Bane held up the stock exchange.

I enjoyed the way he lectured his associate that Bruce's return to Wayne Industries, before nonchalantly admitting that he decided which by flipping a coin.

Another sharp-suited moron who was fun to hate.

Very good supporting villains. I missed the mob initially when I knew they wouldn't factor into TDKR, but both Stryver and Daggett made me forget about them.

They really did. A lot of unique choices in terms of physicality and vocal projection and control from both, especially Mendelsohn. I love how Nolan wrote these white collar corporate raiders into mobsters, backing up the themes while writing some hammy, fun characters.

Very good acting from these two in TDKR. Solid acting across the board in the film.

Anyone else actually wish his name was Roland rather than John?

You're forgetting Daggett's best line & Delivery:

"I'd like to point out that theres a non-Board member here....
...this is highly irregular....."

that smug delivery, coupled with the fact that he orchestrated the Stock Exchange "hit" with Bane is classic criminal.

However on a sad note, the

"....You're dumb for coming here"

was pretty lame.

not his fault I guess, easy to blame the screenplay, but I wish he had ad-libbed that "comeback"

I thought they were great and I didn't even know they were in the movie until the actual movie.

Yes, that is one of the scenes I liked as well. :yay:

I thought that line worked just as well as his others. Calling Catwoman a dumb ***** to which she said she was never called dumb before(implying she has been called a ***** before, lol) and Daggett is just re-affirming that she was "dumb".

Yes! I don't understand why they couldn't just name him Roland Dagget. His first name was only used once anyway.

I'm glad I'm not in the minority here. Having his name be Roland would have been pretty sweet just for nostalgia. Granted, his last name being Daggett is nice, but being named Roland Daggett would've just been all kinds of awesome.

They were so good in such small roles. Unlike some others *cough* Gambol *cough*

Yeah, it's particularly odd considering there was already another John in the main cast of characters with John Blake.

Although I guess technically his first name was Robin, heh.

Oh well, he's pretty much Roland Daggett for all intents and purposes.

Well said.

That's exactly the same way I felt about the character. He was vile and the punishment and ridicule he received from Bane in his final moments was a sight to behold.

Bane was so condescending in that moment that it bordered on pity.
