We have the thread for the worst attempts, so how about what you guys think are the best faked accents on film?

Good idea.

Viggo Mortensen - Eastern Promises
Forrest Whitaker - The Last King of Scotland
Leonardo DiCaprio - Blood Diamond

Some great examples of perfect American accents:
Christian Bale - American Psycho, Batman films, Laurel Canyon, etc.
Hugh Jackman - X-Men movies,
Julian McMahon - Nip/Tuck
Jason Isaacs - Friends with Money
Naomi Watts - The Ring, King Kong, 21 Grams
Cillian Murphy - Batman Begins, Sunshine
Kiera Knightley - The Jacket

What about Gwyneth Paltrow in "Emma"? I know she was in "Shakespeare in Love" but I never saw it.

Angeloz

Everyone in the movie "Fargo."

Oh, and I know it's a TV show, but you guys need to check out "Burn Notice" on USA. Jeffrey Donovan and all his many accents are ALL great.

Mention Bale for The Machinist!!!

Also : Jackman - The Fountain , The Prestige

Yeah, Donovan is great on that show. I love how he just goes into random accents at the drop of a hat.

I hope Mickey Rourke ends up in this thread with his russian accent in IM2 and not in the other one, the worst attempt at accents thread:woot:.

I know. I like Rourke, but I'm having a hard time imagining him doing a Russian accent. Hopefully he'll nail it though.

Viggo Mortensen - Eastern Promises.

Ralph Fiennes in every movie where he does not use his english accent

Forrest Whitakter's cockney accent in The Crying Game.

Kate Beckenisle in Click

I can't believe the thread's even gone one post without a mention of Johnny Depp's impeccable English accent (Pirates of the Caribbean, Sweeney Todd).

Kelly McDonald is Scottish but her Southern accent sounded so real (and cute) in No Country For Old Men.

May I add Idris Elba (whose British) as Stringer Bell in The Wire.

Albert Finney: Any role that requires an American accent. His is flawless.

Max Von Sydow's American accent is also pretty perfect perfect.

Johnny Depp: Any role that requires an accent or vocal affectation of any kind.

Christian Bale: Ditto, with the exception of Terminator Salvation.\

Viven Leigh: A Streetcar Named Desire, Gone With The Wind

There are many others that I can't think of at the moment.

Matt Damon and Leo Di Caprio in the Departed ! ! !
the accent sounds very natural

No offense Sarge, but I think that people who are criticizing Bale's American accent in Terminator Salvation are doing so just because they hated the movie. Harry Knowles said he sounded British... I must have been watching a different movie because I didn't hear that. Worthington's accent, however, was awful.

Well, for Matt Damon it was somewhat natural since he is a native of Cambridge.

It wasn't the accent, just the fact that his voice was basically in constant Bat-growl mode. I don't mind the Bat-growl when he's Batman, but it made me cringe in Terminator Salvation.

I agree That-Guy, I thought he sounded fine. The complaint reminds me of the people who claimed he literally yelled all of his lines which was a laughable statement.

Not a movie but I thought it deserved a mention....Hugh Laurie in House.
