I just wanted to add that Snipes doesn't get his proper due and credit. Yes Goyer wrote the script/screenplay but it is Snipes who gives Blade his Bladeness. Alot of the ideas for the weapons(the Sword, boomerblade) came from Snipes. Even at times he told Goyer to cut lines out because he feels certain things Blade would not do. Snipes put his all into the first 2 films. Especially during Blade II he got hurt numerous time, getting cut from his sword during the Reinheart slashing scene. Then the scene that KenK explained above where Snipes seriously hurt his knee doing the scene. Which as affected him for life. He can no longer kick like he used to.

So that WAS the scene where he hurt his knee! I had heard about the injury, but I never knew what particular scene it was.

But I definitely agree, Snipes gave his all for those first two films. The stunt coordinators where people he had worked with years before doing Blade, and together, they made Blade the fighter that he is. And Wesley, being much more than a dumb action, brought a real personality to the character. Few actors would have been able to do that. Certainly not one of New Line's initial choices for Blade, LL Cool J. Not to mention Snipes production company being involved from the very beginning. That's a lot to put on the table for something that could have easily gone unnoticed and made no money. Men In Black may have been a successful sci/fi comic book movie with a black lead, but by the time that movie hit, Will Smith was coming of another hit movie with aliens AND his long-running sitcom. Blade was a rick give the failure of Spawn, which was supposed to be a smash hit for New Line back in 97. The comic was a big deal in the early 90s, and a movie based on the comic had people really talking. Not to mention the animated series on HBO at the time. And then the movie bombs. To this day, I'm astounded by the freedom New Line gave filmmakers in the production of Blade. I guess they figured, "better to go the Hard-R route, because there's no guarantee that playing it safe to draw in younger audiences." They must have figured it was a lose-lose situation, so might as well rock out with your c**k out. And it ultimately paid off. And the funny thing is, Blade initially tested horribly with test audiences. But this was mostly due to the whole "Blade versus the gelatinous blood moster" climax. Reshoots were done to replace it with the sword fight between Blade and Frost. People had invested so much in the Snipes Vs. Dorff interaction, that they wanted more of it.

Blade 1 was my favorite (although i like 2 quite a bit)...

No more sequels though. To me, vampires are pretty much played out in the media, and need to go away for a bit.

Blade was an incredible flick but I think Blade 2 trumped it. The story was more elaborate and the villians more formidable than Frost's bunch. Also, the culminating fight between Nomak and Blade is still the best combat scene I have ever witnessed on film.

I really don't want a Blade 4.
Agreed, Blade 2 is my favorite comicbook movie, Del Toro just knocked it out of the park and as much as I loved Hellboy I expect the second one to be one of my favorite movies ever.

So that WAS the scene where he hurt his knee! I had heard about the injury, but I never knew what particular scene it was.

The scene where Snipes got injured was right after he landed, then he did a forward roll flip, thats the part where he tore the tedent (excuse the spelling, lol) in his knee. They had to stop production and reshoot many scenes once Snipes was able to walk again.

Never knew that, i thought he did his knee doing a roundhouse kick, must have been painful. And i agree with what you said earlier, Snipes was a big factor in making the first 2 movies great, and all the best scene's in 3 he was involved in also.

indeed

people just think any old person could play Blade

only a person with acting talent and martial arts ability like snipes could do it

kirk sticky jones???

please, he made Blade into a weak ass!

Snipes brought Blade to life! I hope Snipes come back for 1 more, just to rectify the abomination of Blade Trinity

In fact while they are it, just bring back Stephen Norrington who hasnt done anything since Extraordinary league of gentleman.

Guess its time to come back full circle, Norrington must come back and give us a grand finale!

Norrington for Blade 4!

Blade II
The first is a medicre action movie, and the last we talk about the last, the better.

4th movie?
Please God...no.
Blade is nothing more than action movies glued together, being the second actually good because of Del Toro and Nomak.
Like i always say, Goyer is a hack, but because he likes comics, he gets some right from time to time, Blade II was it.
It had very good characters, some that deserved to be more fleshed out (Reinhart comes to mind).
There is no room for a 4th, because it will end being more of the same.

You want more Blade?
Start over, and actually make movies about Blade, meaning with some drama and characterization in there, not just sorry excuses to see Blade kicking ass.

The first is a mediocre movie??? what, are you on crack??? the first Blade movie is what started allowing other filmmakers to start making proper comic book movies like spiderman, and superman and daredevil etc

the first is a classic, with Snipes owning the screen and owning everybody's ass in the movie. Couple with stunning fight sequences, and some real gore, the movie is a defining classic of Vampire mythology.

If you think Is Blade is mediocre, then what is better???

nothing, thats what.

The first blade and second blade movies kick ass and bring action, story, gore and violence to the screen.

Not to mention the first movie contains the best opening of any comic book movie yet, the awesome "Bloodbath" fight scene.

That scene alone made peoples balls drop in 1998, so dont start calling it a "mediocre" movie.

Blade is the best.

Can't see how 2 is better than 1. The effects and overuse of CGi in 2 make it underaverage, and the whole teaming up element doesn't feel very 'blade' to me. And there is a much more darker side to Blade 1, and the opening sequence is the shizzle! Whilst 2 is good, it feels really low budget and rushed in comparison. The technology element takes away from the badassness, and the extra characters aren't too charming. Don't get me wrong, I think blade 2 is great, but blade one is one of the best comic book movies for sure!

That's pretty much my feeling on the Blade franchise. Blade 2 is alright with some nice fight scenes but the first kicks its ass all over the place...especially with the fight scenes and production values. I really hate the piss yellow filter Del Toro uses...it gives me terrible Crow: City of Angels flashbacks.

As for a 4th movie....if they bring back Snipes and Norrington then I'm all for it.

put it this way, anyone who thinks Blade 1 is crap, needs their head checked

it is an awesome movie and you can rewatch it over and over again without being bored of it ever

Bloodbath rules!

Getting back Norrington would be a miracle of miracles, as his experience on League of Extraordinary Gentlemen has had him swearing off directing American films ever again. He's he spoken recently on his experience directing Blade and whether or not he would have directed on another film in the franchise?

I still say hire Ronny Yu if a fourth film ever does materialize. The relationship with both Snipes and New Line is there (Snipes was an executive producer on Yu's The Big Hit, and he directed Freddy Vs. Jason), and we know he'd make it bloody as hell. Yu would bring in the hardcore martial arts choreographers from Hong Kong, and I think Snipes would respect their input, even if he didn't have his own people, like Jeff Ward, on hand.

Kirk Wong did The Big Hit (one of my favorite movies) I believe. After Freddy vs. Jason I wouldn't have wanted Ronny Yu anywhere near Blade 4 but he redeemed himself with Fearless.

I could have sworn it was Ronny Yu. Oh, well. I still think Yu could have kicked ass on a Blade movie.

^I dont think Norrington will return to Hollywood now, in fact i havent heard anything about him since LXG. I would love GDT to come back and do a fourth but at the same time i want him to complete the Hellboy Trilogy he wants.

Now, if New Line employed Alex Proyas to direct a Blade 4, i would jump so high Satelite's would be dodging me.

I don't blame him for leaving Hollywood after LXG. That movie was horrendous.

Alex Proyas made two AMAZING FILMS, however has failed to return anywhere near to his form on these films. I wouldn't want an Alex Proyas Blade, too much of a 50-50 chance I reckon.

I think Proyas was another foreigner turned off by his experiences working for 20th Century Fox. Does he have any films lined up in the states?

How about Antoine Fuqua (Replacement Killers, Training Day, Tears of the Sun)?

I dont consider trinity a movie.

Blade 2 is my favourite. I have a passionate love for the first 2 blade movies.

I thought I, Robot was great, and it would have been even better if Fox had given AP more freedom, its no coincedence he said he'd never work for Fox again.

I think AP has a horror movie coming out soon.

As for AF, i think he is hit and miss.

I found it a little too tedious, didn't seem like a Proyas film. Very predictable and whilst had some great parts and potential, it was generally rather sub-standard. Now Dark city, there's how to make a brilliant god damn film!

1st Blade.

I'd rather see Moon Knight or Deadpool if there could be only 2 Marvel movies/year.

Well blame that on Fox not AP.

I liked the first one, less special effects more story. Seems the better a movie does the more money Hollywood throws at the filmmakers, the less creativity they have.

I would only like to see a another blade spin off not one with Wesley.
