i'm just thinking about this, and transformers and king kong come to mind

how about you guys?

The rockteer
iron man
BACK TO THE futuer trigoly
Spider-man 2
x-MEN 2

Transformers, King Kong and Day After Tomorrow spring to mind, as does Davy Jones in POTC 2. The plane scene in Knowing was really well done. The Bugs from Starship Troopers looked good as well. The T2 CGI/effects still stand up well today I think.. and maybe to a lesser extent and considering when it was made and the fact that it was suppose to look like a cartoon come to life, I think the CGI in The Mask was pretty good.

Alot of those are terrible imo ^

especially the starship troopers bugs.

T2 still looks great today, but if it were to be redone it would look alot better. All CG was used for was the T-1000 and his animations really aren't that great. Not to mention the bulletholes look rediculous. The best sfx in the movie were the practical stuff, like when the T-1000 is blown up in the end.

(its still my favorite and imo the best movie ever though)

yup. jurassic park.

Jurassic Park. still looks great and it's almost 20 years old

I'm going to give a shout out to Terminator 2. I think that movie would be amazing if it had just came out today, because it's so advanced for its time.

J/P, T2, and Titanic but the first is still one of the best-

Predator

Transformers- The part of the highway battle where Bonecrusher charges at Optimus. That looked almost TOO real.

Benjamin Button- Nuff said lol.

The Abyss
Terminator 2
Jurassic Park
Transformers/2

I'd put Iron Man in the list but there are a handful of really bad shots.

Honorable Mentions:

-True Lies
-Titanic
-The Lost World: Jurassic Park
-Armageddon
-The Matrix [Trilogy]
-Gladiator
-AI
-I, Robot
-War of the Worlds

when it comes to human skin and human facial movement then Button wins. it was just real.

No POTC:DMC???? Davey Jones was absolutely a brilliant work of cinema.

The Abyss, Pirates 2, Terminator 2, Iron Man, Jurrassic Park, Revenge of the Sith and War of the Worlds.

what was amazing to found out was that animators from ILM animated davy jones face by hand. only the body was motion captured on set. everythng else is done by hand. they watched the performance from Bill Nighy and hand animated it on daavy jones face.

I think the LOTR-trilogy is worth mentioning. Gollum was amazing when those movies came out.

i'm going with the light sabre from star wars...

great visual and sound effects made it pretty believable, no one's ever really denied its authenticity.

ps, like i said in the original thread all the really great cgi shots go under our noses because we don't even realise they are cgi. True cgi is supposed to fool you, not make you think about how good the effects are.

we seem to come at it from the opposite end because the quality is not always up to scratch, anything that doesn't take you completely out of a film these days is considered decent.
