Of the people on that list I've seen movies by, I like almost all of them.

Where is Nicholas Ray on this list? What about Jacques Tourneur, Davids Cronenberg and Lynch?

Goddamn you.

Hitchcock, Kurosawa, and Spielberg are the absolute best ever, IMO.

Other, Sergio Leone.

Nice moves.

Guillermo del Toro is a favorite of mine, and he seems to be improving with every movie.

I really likemost of Roman Polanski's works and some of Luc Besson work too.

Nolan??? How the **** can people pic a guy whose directed a handful of films?? The guy's been directing for less than 10 years! Some of you people need to see more films.

No BloodyWolverine poll would be complete without an utter contempt for proper spelling.:woot:

Alot of people don't like this director but i love his movies all but godzilla. Roland Emmerich has created some really desent movies. Or movies i liked anyway. Independence Day, Star Gate, The Patriot, and Dya After Tomarrow. He now is remaking 10,000 B.C.

I voted for Howard Hawks for i am a western nut. I like Ridley Scott, Peter Jackson, Chris Nolan, and The guy who directed training day although i can't recall his name at present.

Sorry about a few miss spelled names but i am not the best computer typer and well i will admit it but grammer was bad subject. I sometimes spell by ear. I am getting a talk type thing that spells things when you talk type. Again i am sorry i spelled Kubiak wrong for i am rushed sometimes when i type.

Noticed the Ingmar Bergman's name isn't up there either.

Its a tough call with a select few of those directors. For me it comes down between Scorcese, Spielberg, Kubrick and Coppola. Coppola is tough for me because he's directed a lot of crappy movies, but he's also directed what could possibly be considered three of the greatest movies ever created(Godfather I and II, Apocolypse Now). For me, I'd say Martin Scorsese edges out as the best director.

Btw, anyone else think its shameful that Kubrick and Scorecese never won a best director Oscar. Here's hoping Marty finally gets it.

This thread is completely a bad idea.

Anyway in no particular order here are a few of my faovrites (as in not the best, because there is no way to narrow such a list):

Martin Scorcesse
Alfred Hitchcock
John Ford
John Houston
Frank Capra
Orson Wells
Steven Speilberg
Francis Ford Coppola
Sergio Leone
Quentin Tarintino (a proof that style over sbustance is not always a bad thing)
Christopher Nolan is getting up there
Terrence Malick
Kuschnowi(sp?)
Robert Redford
Ridley Scott
Michael Mann

Just to name a few though.

I half expected the guy to put Michael Bay in that poll as a joke..... I guess I was wrong :p

Sam Raimi

Mark Steven Johnson (why is he not on the list?!)

Hitch said:" John Ford was the Greatest director ever.

ONce, someone asked orson welles: "Name the three best directors of all time". Welles said: John Ford, John Ford and John Ford".

Im a nobody to discuss with Alfred Hitchock or Orson Welles, so, John For is the greatest director ever and ever.

Also, from the list, i love Hitch, Hawks, Scorsese, Spielberg, Kubrick, Huston , Coppola, Scott, Cameron, Tarantino, Eastwood, Welles, Stone, Hawks, etc.

I miss some people like Lynch, Allen, Wyler, Truffaut, Kurosawa, Godard, Fellinni, Rosselinni, Viscontti, etc. And i dont know why are Khesner and Reynolds in the list in stead of those people.

How can you people say Nolan? He's made like 4 films,he still has a way to go..I voted for Howard Hawks, reason being is cause Howard Hawks can basically make anything. He's the most versitale director ever,He's made everything from gangster films to detective films to comedy to westerns,he's made it all. Frank Capra and Billy Wilder are great too. Scorese is my favorite living director.

How can anyone say Tarantino? Or Jackson? Or several of the names on that list.

It could be that you really don't need to see too many films by one director to gain an appreciation of their overall style and skill. I could tell several things about Nolan simply from his first film, Following. Things that made his future films, all of them really, so great.

Of course, the more likely answer is simply that he made Batman Begins, and everyone's kissing his ass because of it. :o
