yeah, but it's repeated because it was funny when it was written. But like so many lines it was just repeated until all life was sucked out of it.

But do look at it this way: You draw comics? As far as I know, it's the only movie where your profession is on screen, so at least it's got that

Maybe its because none of the characters are likable. Maybe it's because the narrative boils down to what your sexual orientation is (Which is something I think shouldn't matter) Maybe it's because the all the sex talk was way unneccessary and not funny. Maybe because whenever I tell someone I draw comics they make "It's not tracing!" Chasing Amy jokes. (That gets real old real fast, believe me.)

I do like that santa-easter bunny-lesbian bit, though. And the "thats the best street lamp you ever drew" bit.

EDIT: Oh and I hate when movies revolve around sex. Hate it.

The movie isn't about sex, and lesbianism(probably spelt wrong), they only person in that movie that talks about it is Banke, and it is clearly pointed out in that movie, that every thing Banke says, is wrong, he is never right once.

The movie is about a guy in a relationship, who never does anything right in the relationship, always trying to put himself before his chick, he doesn't think about the consequences of his actions, I honestly don't know about you Shade, you could for all I know be the best boyfriend a girl could have, but I am not, I screw up, and am hardley ever right when it comes to making big long term desicions. Her being a lesbian doesn't ever play after the 45 minute mark, half of the movie, and it only does because of Holdens insecurity to his inexperience.

All the lesbian stuff in that movie, all that is, is like in a big tense dramatic situation in drama movies, there is like a poker match, or a boxing match, becuase those illuminate the tension in the room (especially poker). Lesbians, and sex just bring to surface the themes and tension that Holden, Alyssa, and Banke go through throughout the movie

I dunno, it's your choice not to like movies about sex, but I think like anything if its done well, its just an aspect of our society, that a great commentator like Smith can surely take a stab at talking about

I'm not a good boyfriend. I'd never give myself the chance to be.

i have mixed views on best....

best as in funniest = mallrats
best as in most origonal = clerks
best as in most realistic = chasing amy

but mallrats wins cause brodie rocks:up:

can't say I'm surprised by the way this poll is going...heres my breakdown though...
Clerks...alright listen up, to say that this is the absolute, only way, that Smith intended for this movie to turn out is ludicrous. Thats why I say Clerks 2 is his best, because its the movie and the emotion he tried to convey with the first movie, but couldn't because of its independent restraints, time, money and talent. Talent, mind you, that has come a very long way...and the Jay from Clerks 1 was just an experiment...that worked, and got better...so much so that it landed Jay (along with Bob) his own movie.
Mallrats...its one of my favorites too...but its not the best of the bunch...Smith has said on many occasions that he is grateful that this movie found its audience later on...and that he enjoys it, but again it didn't turn out the way he intended...this was his entry into studio filmmaking and it almost landed him back where he came from because of how poorly it was recieved at first. Think of it this way...guy does movie about clerks who complain about everyday happenings in thier mundane lives...studio hires same guy to do movie about people who hang out Mall and complain about the misadventures of thier everyday lives...Smith didn't know he had a following yet, he brought over characters like Jay and Bob because he knew they were funny, and he knew it would add something extra to Mallrats...but in the askewniverse...its hard to connect this movie to the rest...its really forced actually.
Chasing Amy...Smith returns to wow critics all over again...Jay and Silent Bob return to wow fans all over again with a 5 minute cameo.
Dogma...Finally, Jay and Bob are back...is there really any other reason at this point in Smiths career to see a movie of his without them? Good movie...but way over the top...an escape from what fans were used to...while this movie was fun, the only thing that can be taken from this movie is Moobley's?
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back....this should have been huge, it should have made tons of money but didn't...I didn't quite understand why, and it makes me think that Smith fans and followings are smaller than we think...but this had great crossover appeal and almost missed the mark with the general public, and thats due to the fact that a lot of it was inside jokes and references to all the other movies. Personal favorite, but, Smith could have taken it to a Pee Wee's Big Adventure level during the Hollywood studios chase scenes...and didn't make it as memorable. Still my top fave though.
Jersey Girl...nothing needs to be said about it, he told people he was done with Jay and Bob and he was, unfortunately for him Ben Affleck was no longer the publics favorite leading man by the time of its release.
Finally Clerks 2, the only thing it really lacked were the cameos that made Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back truly great...it still worked, and it felt more mature, a little more grown up even then say...Jersey Girl...and if Afflecks cameo also had him with his fictional daughter from Jersey Girl...I might have liked it even more. But I won't base this one on just connecting the entire view askew movies...Jay and Bob already did that...but it would have been nice.

I just think people who say Chasing Amy is boring or just sex talk miss the point of the movie. It is very much a dialogue driven movie (much like the first Clerks) but also a lot more serious and slightly romantic.

I don't think he has made a movie as mature or deep since then (albeit Clerks II and Jersey Gril both admirably tried) and featured some real and great acting by JOey Lauren Adam and Jason Lee and even Affleck gave a very good performance.

It is a movie about relationships and misconceptions that can ruin them, especially from the male party. It was not homophobic or just dirty minded, though it was.

However, if the sex talk is that offensive in Chasing Amy how can anyone stand either Clerks movie or Mallrats, which are just as graphic and even one partains a donkey show.

Also, Clerks I may not have been what Smith intended (**** the original ending was Dante dying) but it was still a very good movie and in my opinion his best. Clerks II was no the same message, it was the same idea but it was about getting older and accepting who you wanted to be when you were a teen or 20-something and who you are over 30-something are two different things and accepting the difference is important.

I liked Clerks II, I just don't think it was as funny as his other 4 movies (of the Viewaskew) variety were funnier besides Mallrats, and in fact Mallrats was probably funnier, it's just Mallrats isn't a very good movie (though I do enjoy it).

Just my 2 cents though.

Chasing Amy is the best one

In my personal opinion he has 4 movies that are omnipresent in most of my top 50 or lists, with Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Clerks 2

I personally like Clerks the best because I can relate most to Dante and Randall. Probably when I get to be mid 30's I will choose Clerks, or if I where to ever loose my faith, and then struggle regaining it, Dogma could become my favorite. I have been the meat head in many relationships, and have gone throught the Chasing Amy phase, as that being my favorite, Clerks just always prevails though

Also I feel I am totally disrespecting Mallrats, by not even mentioning it, it's a fantastic Buddy Comedy, up there with the greats, but outside of that, it is a very shallow movie, but with the trademark KevSmith dialouge, and the now trademark Jason Lee awesomeness
