(I don't know if there is a similar thread somewhere in these boards. If there is, please delete this one)
I was wondering how good people around here thought the performances were in this film. Everybody talks about how great were the performances by the entire ensble, and how extraordinary was Bale, but what is the measure of quality? Which were the peaks of each role, the best moments for every character in both acting and writing?
Here is my list, alphabetically listed:
Alfred: (his speech to Bruce, while they destroy the Batman files - the sad glare in his eyes)
"- Today you can say 'I told you so'.
- Today, I don't want to."
"... but I did bloody tell you."
Bruce: (when the Joker told him he had Rachel too - the desperation in his voice, first time the growling revealed a human beneath them, first time I actually forgot the Joker was in the room)
"Where are they?!!"
Runner-up: "She was gonna wait for me, Alfred. Dent doesn't know. He can never know" (because Bale never goes ever the top and yet conveys sincere emotion).
Dent: (when he tosses the coin for the three: Bats, himself and Gordon - not caring for anything in the world, mad, umperturbed, proving there really was no escape)
"Tell you boy it's gonna be alright, Gordon. Lie, like I lied."
Fox: (his reaction to discovering the bat-sonar - I didn't see it coming, and it made me know the guy much more better... he had limits, and Freeman made it dead serious)
"I'll help you this one time. But consider this my resignation. As long as this machine is at Wayne Enterprises, I won't be."
Gordon: (talking to Two-Face during the kidnap of his family - the most virtuous man of the city, lying on the ground, fearing for his son's life)
"Harvey... I'm sorry! For everything! ... But please don't hurt my son."
The Joker: [wow, this is the hardest one] (the one where he's sitting in the interrogation room, taunting the policeman - sitting like a grounded boy, but letting us know that he was truly filled with evil)
"You wanna know why I use a knife? ... Guns are too quick. You can't savour all the... little emotions. In, you see... in their last moments, people show you who they really are. So, in a way, I knew your friends better than you ever did.
Would you like to know which of them were cowards?..."
Runner-up: (the wife story) "And you know what? She can't stand the sight of me! She leaves... Now I see the funny side. Now I'm always smiling!"
(I only regret the 360º panning that didn't let me watch his face every line)
Rachel: (hands down, it's her death scene - voice broken after minutes of screaming, and her struggle to remain stoic to calm Harvey)
"Harvey... Okay. Harvey, it's okay... it's alright, listen. Some."

Now, which did you think were the best moments? Perhaps someone can include the likes of Maroni, Lau & the Chechen.
