Six men have played the iconic role of James Bond, obviously in the case of George Lazenby he only has one movie so that's his best lol, but of the other 5 what would you say was their best outing as 007?

I'll start us off;

Sean Connery - Goldfinger.
I've always had a soft spot for Dr. No and as a kid it was close between Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice as to my favourite Connery Bond film, but over the years Goldfinger has emerged as the clear #1 for me. From the classic theme song, to the great villain, to his oldschool pulp adventure novel plan, it has everything, the DB5, the most iconic Bond car of them all and the first time we'd see him with a gadget laden ride, and Oddjob, the first of the classic Henchmen that would become a staple of the series. It also has the best interplay between Bond and his antagonist of any movie in the franchise, from the now legendary "No Mr Bond, I expect you to die" scene to the Golf match between the two, the film just has everything you could want in a Bond movie.

Roger Moore - The Spy Who Loved Me
Another great theme song, a plot that marries some proper espionage with the more outlandish trappings of the megolomaniac villain plot, and for me Bond's most interesting relationship as he works with agent Anya Amasova, who's fiance he killed in arguably the franchise most iconic pre-credits sequence. Add in the debut of Jaws and the Lotus Esprit chase sequence and you have the King of Eyebrow acting's best 007 movie.

Timothy Dalton - The Living Daylights
Plays in the Russian/Afghan political situation of the time which is a bit more topical than Bond movies usually go for, and it features a slightly more grounded spy plot with defection, gun running and diamond smuggling. It's got a decent car chase and a solid pre-credits sequence, and at least feels like a Bond movie, where to me Licence to Kill just plays like an 80's action movie with the Bond brand slapped on it.

Pierce Brosnan - Goldeneye
It wouldn't get any better than this for Brosnan and is in my top 3 movies in the entire franchise. In Alec Trevelyan the film has one of the best villains the series has produced, a mirror image nemesis for Bond, and his henchwoman Xenia Onatopp provides flamboyant back-up, the Aston/Ferrari race between her and Bond that introduces her is one of the films highlights and she is only the second major female villain in franchise history at the time. The pre-credits sequence is great, the humour is just right, the story is solid and the action is top drawer, with the tank chase sequence being the standout! It was a triumphant return to form for Bond after arguably 14 years.

Daniel Craig - Casino Royale
I suspect Skyfall will be most people's choice here but I prefer Craig's first outing as 007, it starts off setting the tone for a different kind of Bond as he earns his Licence to Kill, then delivers the stunning parkour chase sequence as Bond settles into his first full mission as a 00 agent. In Vesper Lynd the film has one of the franchise best Bond girls and Le Chiffre is one of the series best villains, add in the airport sequence as Bond races to stop a plane being blown up, the stairwell fight and the tension filled high stakes card game and you've got a Bond classic!

Connery -- From Russia with Love
Moore -- The Man with the Golden Gun
Dalton -- The Living Daylights
Craig -- Skyfall

Not a fan of the Brosnan era and honestly can't pick one.

I agree with Hunter Rider, with the sole exception of Dalton. I think LTK, being a grittier, more grounded film is a better fit for Timothy Dalton's portrayal than TLD which still has him doing some pretty goofy things like riding down a mountain in a cello case. LTK also has my favorite villain since Scaramanga and one I much, much prefer to the two goofballs in TLD (maybe the weakest villains in the entire series).

"When it gets up to your ankles, you're going to beg to tell me everything. When it gets up to your knees, you'll kiss my ass to kill you."

Love Robert Davi in this movie.

Connery - Goldfinger
Moore - Moonraker
Dalton - License to Kill
Brosnan - The World is Not Enough
Craig - Casino Royale

Connery- From Russia with Love
Moore- For Your Eyes Only
Dalton- The Living Daylights
Brosnan- Goldeneye
Craig- Casino Royale

Dalton was the trickiest one to rank for me, despite only having two films, I really love both of them about equally, so which one I prefer is an answer that frequently changes, the tanker chase in License to Kill is one of the franchises best action sequences and the villains in License to Kill are definitely better than in The Living Daylights, but I find Living Daylights to be a more enjoyable film overall with its locations, score, and moments like the car chase and the stunt sequence on the plane are great. Really wish Dalton had done more films, he's probably my favorite Bond.

Pretty much in-line with Hunter's list there, personally.

Ehh, I don't know. I actually love License To Kill too, but sort of in a different way than a good example of a Bond movie. It's more tapping into that straight-up 80s action-revenge movie vibe by design, which was fine and I kinda love it for it, but Daylights (while obviously nothing amazing, straight-up mid-tier Bond movie, average as it gets) is a better example of hitting the beats of a Bond film.

But in general, Dalton's the friggin' man. Still would have loved to see the same general plot of Goldeneye, but like 10-15% grittier/nastier, with Dalton in the role. Could have been pretty damn amazing. Like the tone that Campbell ran with for Casino Royale, but the plot beats of the Goldeneye we actually got, sans the silly stuff and with Tim taking the performance even more intense than LTK.

I'm sorta partial to a bail bond, but government bonds are where it's at.

Connery - From Russia with Love
Moore - For Your Eyes Only (either this or Live & Let Die)
Dalton - The Living Daylights (both of his are fantastic Bond films and TLD is second favourite Bond)
Brosnan - Goldeneye (hate his era, but best of a terrible bunch for me)
Craig - Skyfall (by a whisker from CR)

Having said all that, OHMSS is my favourite Bond and Lazenby's only one, it has more emotion, connection with the universe and 'brutality' of mind, spirit and demonstrates WAAAY before Craig that above and beyond, the man is human at the end of the day, like us all, he is strong, weak, has barriers and they slip, in other words, he was real.

Yeah, OMHSS is right up there with the best Bond outings, period, any era.

Everyone should check out Becoming Bond, the Lazenby interview-and-dramatization movie, it's friggin' bonkers. :oldrazz: He literally went to Connery's tailor and stole one of his suits to go to the first-level audition in. And basically just bull****ted his way into the offices and acted like an arrogant pr*ck to the point they're like "that's Bond, that's our guy!".

Connery - From Russia with Love
Moore - they're pretty much all the same (not in a good way), with the exception of Octopussy, which was unwatchable
Dalton - Licence to Kill
Brosnan - GoldenEye, aka the one with Xenia Onatopp
Craig - to be honest I still haven't watched Spectre but I strongly doubt it's better than Casino Royale

Aspects of Spectre are as good as CR but as an overall film, CR is the superior film.

Connery: From Russia with Love
Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me
Dalton: License to Kill
Brosnan: Goldeneye
Craig: Casino Royale

It's kinda funny that the youngest one to debut as Bond, Lazenby, only made one, while the oldest one, Moore, has done most Bond-movies

Connery: Goldfinger
Moore: View to a Kill/Live & let Die
Dalton: License to Kill
Brosnan: Goldeneye
Craig: Skyfall

Connery - From Russia With Love
Lazenby - On Her Majesty's Secret Service (duh, lol)
Moore - The Spy Who Loved Me
Dalton - The Living Day Lights
Brosnan - Goldeneye
Craig - Casino Royale

Goldfinger
L&LD/TMwtGG/Octopussy
TLD and L2K are roughly equal for me
Goldeneye
Casino Royale

Connery: Goldfinger
George Lazenby: On Her Majesty's Secret Service (duh)
Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me
Dalton: The Living Daylights and License to Kill are equally bad to me.
Brosnan: Goldeneye
Craig: Skyfall

Connery: From Russia With Love (Close second: Goldfinger)
Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me (Close second: Live and Let Die)
Dalton: I'm not sure. I remember not enjoying them that much that's about it, but it's cool that a lot of people seem to dig them and they probably paved the way for a "better Bond" anyway (Also not Dalton's fault, great actor who could have been a fantastic Bond)
Brosnan: Goldeneye
Craig: Casino Royale

For me, Dalton was a fantastic Bond, he got him completely and was simply scapegoated at the time.

Connery: Goldfinger (Quintessential Bond)
Lazenby: OHMSS (Heh)
Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me (His best outing as Bond for me)
Dalton: License to Kill (One of the most underrated Bond films)
Brosnan: Goldeneye (The Bond I grew up with)
Craig: Skyfall (Casino Royale is excellent, but Craig seemed most comfortable in the role in Skyfall, plus the supporting characters returning made it feel more like a Bond film)

Connery - Goldfinger (or Thunderball)
Lazenby- Who is this?
Moore- Live and Let Die (or Moonraker)
Dalton- License to Kill (my fav Bond film)
Brosnan - Tomorrow Never Dies
Craig- Skyfall

For me, Dalton was a fantastic Bond, he got him completely and was simply scapegoated at the time.
I concur. Looks like the whole marketing screwed up License to Kill. Not only that; they debuted it in the summer against Batman/Ghostbusters 2/Lethal Weapon 2

I believe Goldeneye was originally written for Dalton.I remember during the 90's everyone was loving Brosnan. And now people finally admit he wasn't exactly a good Bond.

Yep, I came across that bit o trivia too that Goldeneye was intended for Dalton, but he dropped out because they took too long getting around to making another movie.

Connery - From Russia With Love
Lazenby - On Her Majesty's Secret Service (duh, lol)
Moore - The Spy Who Loved Me
Dalton - The Living Day Lights
Brosnan - Goldeneye
Craig - Casino Royale

That's my list exactly, so I won't even bother to type mine out.
