Which Bond film do you guys think was Sean Connery's beat James Bond film?

For me, it'd have to be Goldfinger. I loved that movie and thought Connery was great in it.

What about you guys? Which do you think was Connery's best?

It has to be GF, he was more into the character you know more relaxed.

Goldfinger, although Thunderball is my favoruite.

Thunderball is my favorite, but I think FRWL is his best.

The best was FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE.

The most iconic was GOLDFINGER or THUNDERBALL or YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE (they're all somewhat tied for establishing the Bond "image" in the minds of the general populace).

My favorite is probably THUNDERBALL.

Yeah, both From Russia with Love and Thunderball are great. And of course Dr. No comes to me as a close second.

It is funny, when you look at it, most of the movies after the 60s were either a remake of Goldfinger (AVTAK, TWINE),or of YOLT (TSWLM, Moonraker), or a mix of both (TND).

You Only Live Twice is itself a super-sized version of Dr No.

True, but not half as intelligent or enjoyable. Or grounded to earth, really. Dr No's scheme was somewhat believable, YOLT's is just out there.
This is when the franchise started getting downhill.

DR. NO is probably the better film, but I'd sooner watch YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE any day of the week.

I think DR. NO is a Bond film that has some issues... namely a slow-as-molasses first half without much excitement or intrigue. Thankfully, it picks up and becomes really great in the second half.

In the sense that story was more or less chucked out the window and the film became about a chain of set-pieces? Yeah.

Still, I think YOLT has plenty of magical moments and great things. It has a fantastic score, beautiful visuals, and a delightful "travelogue" feel. We also have some fantastic action sequences (I love that shot of Bond on the roof as he's pursued by all the thugs). Of all the "epic" Bond films (namely YOLT, TSWLM, MR, and DAD), I think YOLT is the best.

The only thing epic about DAD was, how much of a disaster it proved to be.

Agreed, YOLT is basically a documentary of a bored Connery walking through scenic Japanese locations and pressing buttons, intercut with special effects.

That sounds more like DAD, if you replace the name Connery by Brosnan. At least, there was some genuine stunts/fight scenes in YOLT and the badguy was well, Blofeld, instead of Minime. My problem with YOLt is that the plot doesn't make much sense, some interesting ideas (ex; Bond fakins his death) are abandoned without reason and it goes way too far in the realm of sci-fi.

Goldfinger, definately.
---
why is NSNA on the list? That was an unofficial Bond film that was a remake of Thunderball.

1-Goldfinger
2-Dr. No
3-From Russia With Love
4-Thunderball / Never Say Never Again
5-Diamonds Are Forever
6-You Only Live Twice

Goldfinger.

Best of Connery's, and the best of the franchise too, IMO.

Why no votes for Thunderball? It's the biggest Bond of all!

I'm surprised how many votes Goldfinger got, and yes, Thunderball is for sure one of my favorites.

I've watched every Bond mvoie....but its been a while since I've watch any of Connery's and I don't recall Thunderball...leading for me to belive that it couldn't have been all that great....or perhaps my memory is just shot (I'm 18 and was about 9-10 when I got into my Bond kick; ended up watching them all in a month.)

I was tempted to vote forit, but while Thunderball is my favorite, I think FRWL is probably the est Bond movie ever. But give me a "which is your favorite Connery Bond" and I will vote for it.

On the subject, of all the "big" Bond movies, Thunderball is probably the best with Goldfinger. In many ways, it is even better. It is large-scale but yet the plot remains believable. The atmosphere is great, the settings are gorgeous, and so are the Bond girls, the villains are emblematic and the udnerwater battle simply epic. Some people complaint that it is too slow and the underwater sequences too long, but I don't mind slow moments in James Bond. In fact, I think they are compulsory to establish the atmosphere. Ian Fleming's novels were not action-packed and were often quite slow, and that was part of their charm. It's the same with the long underwater sequences of Thunderball: one wouldn't steal two nukes in five minutes.
