What was some of the best game music?

I must give it to Final Fantasy X.
It was perfect, IMO.

Without a doubt the Metal Gear Solid Series.

Harry Gregson-Williams FTW.

I agree, Spider-Jay, but Gears of War has an amazing soundtrack as well.

But MGS 3 FTW.

Xenogears, Deus Ex, Psychonauts, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Contracts

Halo is damn good i mean damn good, but its not Harry Gregson-Williams good. Metal Gear Solid for the win!

Nope, FFX trumps Halo...

10x.

Halo is damn good, btw.

I have the Halo soundtrack. It's ok.

Dacman, why do you have to convince others that your opinions are the only correct ones?

He's used to it.
He does it every single day. :o

Xenogears and Chrono Cross, definitely. Speaking of RPGs, it's a crime that Jeremy Soule, the genius behind Morrowind and Oblivion's historically epic tunes wasn't mentioned in the very first post. Also, Jesper Kyd's score for the first Hitman game was in my opinion, even better than that of the sequels.

Oh and all those of you dorks who claim Harry Gregson Williams' score to be the best, try listening to Bill Brown's work in the first Rainbow Six (and it's sequel Rogue Spear), Clive Barker's Undying and Shadow Watch. And James Hannigan's operatic masterpiece for Republic: The Revolution is also obviously superior. That's not taking anything away from Harry Gregson Williams, here. He's an incredible composer by all accounts. But aside from his version of the MGS theme, his MGS scores have a "generic-blockbuster-action-movie" feel to them.

By the way, all you MGS3 ****es should try playing MGS2 once again and pay attention to the music this time, just so you realize that it is MGS2 that has the higher quality score.

Halo has a very unique score so it's a very deserving nominee in this thread. As for the threadmaker's choice, yes, the music in FFX is simply breathtaking sometimes, but it has it's own share of rough edges and is far from perfect.

Why does everyone have to be so wrong?

Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction for comic book games'
soundtracks.

Resident Evil Series
Splinter Cell Series

The Max Payne and Prince of Persia games. Sure, "Warrior Within's" score was really out of place among the other POP games, but it was still nice, IMO.

Castlevania SoTN, Hitman Blood Money, Prince of Persia games (as above).
