Best Twist/Shock Endings

the Joker card was quite a suprise to me, gave me a big grin on my face and I had to clap, it was just such an unexpected move considering the films more thriller like tone, and seemed out of place for a film that didn't come off as a superhero movie, a smart move I feel

For me, it also was unpredictable scene with Joker's card (I'll mention this again, I didn't read any spoilers of BB).

Same. Great scene, great ending! Glad I don't read spoilers!

Actually, I was referring to the Ducard/Ra's twist at the end of Batman Begins, not the Joker card. True, everyone who frequented these boards knew it was coming, but most other people were suprised.

But yeah, I forgot about Frailty, Donie Darko, The Game and The Gift. Those were all great twists and great movies.

Others that come to mind... Se7en, The Maltese Falcon, A Man Apart, The Others, and The Ring.

Adding to the list:

  • L.A. Confidental
I, for one, thought Bud White was dead and he just appeared, all bandaged in the car.
  • Fight Club
Durden was Jack all along. Who would've thunk it?
  • One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Never saw McMurphy's death coming. And especially him getting a mercy kill by Bromden.
  • Se7en
  • Batman Begins
Vide supra.

Unbreakable... Mostly because I totally forgot about a twist ending as soon as I sat down to watch it.

Revenge of the Sith had a great twist ending. Whoever imagined that a whiny little ***** like Anakin would turn out to be Darth Vader in the end? :D

Yeah, the Joker card was a shock.

Ra's al Ghul too. But, the Joker card wasn't even hinted, it just hit you.

Bound had a really good ending. As did "Me and You and Everyone We Know"

Theres a big twist at the end of MindHunters but the movie had some really piss-poor acting and directing so by the time push came to shove i didn't really care.

as campy as scream is, having 2 killers at the end of a thriller is genius.

i think it re-opened up the horror genre

Man I loved the ending to that film. I just realised I have it on DVD and I didn't watch it yet...****.

Man, I love that movie:

Matchstick Men

I had tears in my eyes; it reminded me of the time I was close to bawling in Freaky Friday :)

I think the best twist, shocking ending is: Memories of a Murder...

Forget OldBoy

Because it was based on a true story.

Haunting.

Oh! Just thought of a really good one! BASIC has an AWESOME twist ending. In the right role, Travolta f**king rocks.

Reservoir dogs, kinda caught me off guard with it's revealing

Crash (2005) was awesome.

I loved that ending. Empire Strikes Back even though I wasn't even born and it was ruined for when I was a little kid who didn't even know what a Luke Skywalker was.

I'll have to say the best twist was the sixth sense, when i seen that i was like !!!!! lol. But my favourite twist was saw, and i love the part "GAME OVER"

One movie with a twist endding that I just saw for the first time in a while was The Final Countdown. Not the best of all time but a good time travel twist none the less

Suicide Kings had a nice twist.

And there was this CBS made for tv movie about asteroids.

3 asteroids are on the verge of hitting China, Washington DC, & some european country (forget which exactly). The world braces itself as these countries try to blow the asteriods out of the sky with missles. They do it. The world celebrates. But wait ... those 3 were just the eye of the storm. Behind them are a thousand more asteriods. The scene turns back to a military global map showing every country launching multiple missiles. It ends with the news coverage of China & DC going static. The anchorman back at the news station ends the movie with somekind "may God help us" line. Then static.

Ok this a very nice small twist in the movie but not at the ending, it was close to the end. Zathura: the stranded astronaut being the older brother from the future. I liked that twist in the film.
