Bettie Page at 80

basically the fact that a woman's body shape has been discussed for 3+ pages speaks volumes, you wouldnt see that sort of discussion on a man's shape.

yeah thats what i just said. but it is a typical male point of view.

But you just had a bunch of men give you reason to believe that it ISN'T a typical male point of view. Please don't make assumptions about people based on gender. :)

yeah, that's what women do :down:mad:

this board is certainly more intellectual than those i have experienced in the past. however i dont think you can deny that there is a disparity between the rigourousness with which male and female bodies are scrutinised and criticised.

It depends on what circles you run in or where in society you look. I've listened to women critique guys from afar and they can be far more brutal and scrutinizing about looks and fitness levels than even the most chauvinistic of men. The point is that you can't operate from sweeping generalizations. There are too many variables and factors involved when humans are involved.

heh, reminds me of the end of my Death Match with DOG LIPS.
Outsiderzedge thought the ruling was bogus and..hahaha,...said, "Look, I know this world is built on lies, full of deceit right and left, but I really thought the Hype was different. Guess I've learned my lesson."
hahaha

i agree. and i am totally brutal in juding men's looks and bodies. but you kind of do that as a revenge you know? i hardly think you can deny that women on the whole are much more opressed by the "beauty myth"

I don't know. Go look at an issue of GQ or Men's Health and tell me that there isn't an unhealthy fixation on men's looks in our society. Beauty Is Best seems to be the mantra for our society as a whole, and I don't see that as limited to a specific gender these days (though women were held to a different standard, historically speaking, but ever since the 80's that's changed quite a bit).

i agree that it is a phenomenon that is becoming more prevalent for males, but come on, GQ or Men's Health? compare the sales of cosmo, marie claire, vogue, harpers etc. etc.

Sales figures are your only barometer? Besides, those were just examples.

have you ever noticed that for the most part, the people that set those standards (beauty magazine editors, fashion designers etc.) are either females or homosexuals?

no they are not my only barometer, i was using that as an example in the same way that you did. i just cannot believe you can even start to debate the fact that women's bodies are entirely more controlled and fetishised than men's.

think of the amount spent of cosmetics, cosmetic surgery etc. think of the fact that the only industries where women make more than men are modelling and porn.

Well, your mind's made up. This is the 10 or 12th time you've said "I don't think you can deny...", so nothing's going to change your mind regarding this generalization.

The world's full of racists, sexists, misogynists, elitests, sociopaths...we can enjoy stumbling upon and getting to know those who don't fall into these categories, but I don't see the merit in trying to "one-up" people with your victimization. Just agree that some people have unfair attitudes. Unfair or gross is unfair or gross. You've already admitted that your anger over this perceived lameness has led you to seek revenge. That can end up alienating people who are on your side.

the last thing i want to do is alienate people who are "on my side". i am well aware that not everyone subscribes to the views i have been describing, my main point was that most people do. im not saying you do, im just saying its the general consensus.

That's pretty much what I was sitting here thinking.
