Yes, the Hype is in Super Happy Crazy Fun Time Mode now because of IBelieveInHarveyDentToo.com, the controversial Joker pic and the uber buzz it has created.

What is easy to miss in the chaos our first taste of Ledger's Joker has brought is the other details the site gives us.

1. The most obvious is the drastically new marketing campaign Warner Bros. is implementing here. Drawings from the very successful viral campaigns such as IHeartBees for Halo, the duo of IBelieveInHarveyDent and IBelieveInHarveyDentToo looks to be the start of a very active, entertaining and most importantly successful campaign. The fact that there is 400+ days left before TDK comes out, and we now have three websites and a huge revelation tells me that Warner Bros. looks to wipe out the bitter tastes left in Batfans mouths about the marketing of Batman Begins.

2. The Jokers character also seems to be solidified here in simply the few messages he leaves for us. Lines such as "you can't cheat a cheater", and "I always say, you never know what a man is truly made of until you peel the skin off his face one piece at a time." sound like lines from a hardcore Batman fan's film - and I mean that in the very best way possible. While many have rightfully complained about the lack of traditional look here, what can not be argued is that it seems Nolan does get the Joker's personality. His Joker will be vain - he likes attention, thus the site. His Joker will be sadistic. His Joker will be deadly. And his Joker will target public officials - Harvey Dent beware.

I also feel it is worth noting the Joker's email address "TragicPast" - could it be a smidgen of a back story? Why did WB choose this name over say "Mr. Happy" or another generic Joker-like name. Or something as simple as Webmaster?

3. Harvey Dent. I feel as if this site may be a sign that we may get a Harvey Dent with a dark side. I have made my position well known on the issue - I prefer a Harvey Dent who has no evident dark side. This comment though about peeling away Harvey's skin tells me that the Joker knows, or atleast strongly suspects, that Harvey has a side he hides from everyone. It will be interesting to see how this is done in not only the movie - but perhaps hinted at during the IBelieveInHarveyDent viral campaign.

The tragic past webname, I think, is more or less his alluding to the moment his skin was bleached white and his hair was dyed green. I mean, it's tragic, and it's in his past.

Maybe?

thats why this thread is here - to discuss, theorize, make fun of people who have really stupid ideas- the usual

Exellent points you make Normin. I thought the same exact thing when I saw "Joker's" email address. It seems likely Nolan will give some trademark flashbacks or at least some revelations about Joker's origins.
And great points about his sick sense of humour, the website demonstrates that to a tee.

Kudos to WB, they have begun the hype for TDK and what a way to do it!

notable is the subject line in the email: defacing public servants.

also notable is the reply email mentioning his "first big kiss"... Rory's First Kiss?

maybe tragic past is to represent harvey's past and not the joker's.

that maybe harvey was involved in something that he covered up and the joker knows about it. instead of a backstory for the joker we get one for harvey that has traces of joker in it.

Nice job, Stormin'.

My two cents: I will believe in this Joker pic when WB stamps their work on it. Also, it just occurred to me when all this "ooh nooes, the Joka does'aint wear makeup" theory jumped on board, that the Joker's personallity would do just that. Take away the lipstick, and what do you have? A sick disfigured growth thing on a guy's face. However, I argue that Joker would look in the mirror, stare psychoticly, and then laugh.. and laugh hard, the grab some lipstick and say "look ma, a smile," and apply the lipstick.

I dunno.

Still, I's gonna hold off judgement.

Also, it's interesting to note that the "Too" is over "Dent"
StorminNormin may be correct in his assumption that Joker is aware of Harvey's TWO personalities. Or it could be just an amusing "Double" Entendre.

Okay, that was just way two many quotes.

Yeah. There's a lot of hidden gems part of this website, and Norman has done a good job of pointing them out.

This was a site registered before IBelieveInHarveyDent came out - plus BOF confirmed that it was from WB (tkae that for what it is worth) - so I think it is real.

As far as your assessment of the Joker makeup relationship - I agree completely. The Joker doesn't wear white face makeup - he does wear lip stick. I have little problem with that.

I'm really hoping "tragic past" is in reference to The Joker's bleached skin and carved smile.

Jett has been so.. I dunno.. off his mark these last few months, I just can't believe, fully, yet.

Yeah, I forgot about the face paint. There are so many directions Nolan could go with this.

It's hard not to damn something, I know. But for someone who waited impatiently for Batman and Robin, with no real source of info besides the bloody E channel, and wasted his time and money, I say be glad your generation has Nolan.

And stop whining!

White Face = Chemical Bath
Gross Wounds = Zip-Line
Lipstick Smear, Green Hair = Self-Applied.
Insanity = Inherent, Evolving

took the words right out of my head Norman. this how you market a movie, get people interested, start building your base (or in our case expanding them) by giving little interesting morsels like these. i also like how these images are handled, it created a lot of interest with quite few material: Eckhart as Dent, Ledger in full Joker make-up, the Batlogo with a new background. but instead of just spoon feeding it to the public, they created this buzz just bubbling under the surface. very very nice work, whoever heads the marketing for TDK

its good you pointed that out, gives us a insight on the workings of of Joker's mind, which is already pretty twisted but frighteningly enough, makes a whole lot of sense.

also, did you notice that on the vandalized Harvey Dent poster, Joker (supposedly) blacked out his eyes and placed a big red grin. when the Joker photo was revealed thats is also what we get: hollow dark eyes sockets and a red grotesque mouth. it struck me as a kind of mirror image. could there be something that Joker sees in Dent that he sees in himself as well? that Dent is a twisted monster much like he is, but conceals it behind this peaches-and-cream, squeaky clean, all-american public servant image while Joker opts for the more gritty but real persona spiced up with a bit of makeup?

According to the pages of "The Killing Joke," the green hair and the red lips came from the chemical bath as well.

The Joker IS stealing money from the bank accounts of top Gotham gangsters.

Perhaps he's noticed Dent's name on a few of the reciepts.....

So you want Harvey to be in cahoots with Gangsters?

That is stupid as ****.

I'm really hoping "tragic past" is in reference to The Joker's bleached skin and carved smile.

Rather than a Killing Joke style guy that couldn't cope with life? I really dislike the tragic angle, much prefer to think of Joker as always having been a bastard devoid of morals.

I have a feeling we will get something very similar to what happens in the long halloween, conserning the relationship between Joker and Dent, when The Joker shows up at his home and beats him up. He wants to embarass him in the worst ways possible, which also brings to mind the rumors of the JOker being responsible for Dent's makover...But, seeing as we get Maroni in this film too, here´s to the hope that Nolan will stay faithful to the comic...

as I've said before, the joker could suspect that dent is batman and scar him as revenge for the gash.

well this isnt the first time that a public official was funded by the mob. heck half the time the politician doesnt even know that its dirty money until he's already spent it.

but i was more thinking that Dent and Joker may have something in common, or at least Joker sees something of himself in Dent or the image of someone running for public office. when Joker vandalized the poster it looked like he was trying to make the image unto himself.

I didn't say I wanted anything dude. I just said that it's possible that his other personality is partly responsible for everything he's trying to prevent.

Also, may I substitute my own word in for the four stars you provided in the insult? I'll go with "Coke" which is not stupid at all, but rather a delicious soda.

great idea. i could see (since nolan loves twists in his movies) a scene were harvey becomes aware of all the things his other personality has done without his knowing.
