Big Trouble in Little China remake with The Rock

The 1951 version is okay. A nice time capsule but there's a reason why people talk more about Carpenter's version over the original.

I am not someone who is against remakes, I really like the recent Evil and RoboCop remakes, and have enjoyed others in the past. Peter Jacksons King Kong is a film I absolutely adore.

But this just doesn't sound right, for one, it would need to be violent like the old movie, and while I like the Rock a lot I don't see him playing 2nd fiddle to an Asian guy like Kurt did in the original.

I don't like this. I don't like this at all.

Kurt has to go to to the Rock in the set of the next F and F and tell him : " Man, its all cool but dont do this. please".

I honestly haven't seen the 80s one in years, but i hate this kind of reboots. I think escape from new york is dead in the water, so stop messing with Kurts characters, please. Im just waiting for a Tango and Cash reboot at any second at this point.

I don't think it's dead in the water yet, Fox only just got the rights in January so they are probably looking for director, actors etc. first.

Me too. That scene on the frozen pond, with Howard Shore's simple piano composition in the background, just makes that whole film work for me. The heart in that movie raises it above all its flaws.

On topic...I've never seen the original Big Trouble in Little China. It's been on my must-watch list, but now I may have to bump it up to the top.

Oh man thanks for ruining my morning, i hoped that thing was left behind. But i guess no movie is safe this days.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did one of suburban commando with The Rock next, actually that would suit him much better than this reboot

The saving grace is the development stage is that it can take FOREVER.

I really really like that movie as well, but i think the editor fell asleep or something during the production cause he should have cut like an 1 hour of that movie. There is WAY too much stuff you dont need, and i will NEVER get over the plot hole on how do they freaking get Kong to America.

I love all that sequence before but then when the jump cut comes, you are just asking the audience too fill in way too much. If anyone has an explanation on how they did it, you would save me years of theories

After checking IMDB (I know), Dwayne has 2018 free. I wonder if they are aiming for a release then?

Very true, i mean Escape from New York has been in that stage since 300, when Butler was going to be in every movie ever made from that point on

I can't get on board with this. If they were remaking Escape from NY with The Rock, I'd be fine with it. But BTILC is where I draw the line. I just can't see them being able to recapture the magic of the original (no pun intended).

There is only one Jack Burton.

I'm not against remakes. They bring more attention to the classic originals.

And the more young people who seek out the first Big Trouble In Little Chin, the better.

On another forum someone claimed BTILC wasn't a classic. I became visibly upset.

If a movie has Kurt Russell , it always deserves at least 1 view, no matter if the overall flick sucks (which is not the case of course of BTILC). The man is way to entertaining (Soldier could be the exception, were he is just so dull on purpose)

I don't know. After watching Kurt in Furious 7, the man still has it. I feel like it would be better if they just did a sequel with him and The Rock as his protege or something. I think that could work. Maybe.

Ugh yeah Soldier sucked. But he rocked the same buzzcut in Stargate and was awesome.

I thought a sequel might be a good idea then I remembered Escape From LA.

I love Stargate as well, but i heard that so many people hate it. I never understood why exactly but i always found the ideas very intriguing and all the production values were really interesting. And Spader and Russell make a really good match

Stargate is much better than Roland Emmerich's later films. It was understated and fun, despite his tendencies to wear his influences on his sleeve. (IE Star Wars for Stargate and ID4)

If I'm mistaken, Big Trouble in Little China not only inspired Raiden but it also created the famous line 'I was born ready' that so many other movies stole.

Nope, won't even bother checking this out.

Well his later movies has been really bad, except the patriot that is a guilty pleasure of mine. Its an historical inaccuracy after another but there are many entertaining performances there.
