If it's done right, it shouldn't be that big of an issue. I loved the movie, but I don't think it was on the level of some of the other classics from the 80's & 90's, IMO.

Remakes like this make zero sense to me.

If the original movie is a masterpiece, why would you want to end up making something inferior?

If the original movie tanked, why would you want to redo something that wasn't successful in the first place?

If the original movie tanked but has a decent cult following, why would you want to piss on the small fanbase it has and end up pushing them away so it has no fans anymore?

Like, it's a total failure across the board. You're ruining legacies and you're hardly making any profit. Nothing about the situation is positive.

There are so many movies that for one reason or another, prove your post wrong.

Throw in the likes of Batman and you've got three or four remakes of that one movie depending on how you count the Adam West one (even if it is based on a comic book). Then you have Spider-Man/The Amazing Spider-Man and whatever the third will be named (Spectacular Spider-Man?) and it shows that remakes and reboots can be successful even if they suck.

Point is, some movies came out at the wrong time or can still be seen as relevant or improved on in later eras.

No you're right. To be fair, Batman is based on a comic book property that's been around for 70 years, with a number of different versions, including ones prior to Adam West.

BTILC was a product of its time. It was lighting in a bottle that can't be recaptured. The Rock has charisma so I bet he'll be good but I bet they'll take the movie seriously wheras the original was a satire of action heroes

after reading this thread I popped in Big Trouble on BR wow still an amazing little film, all the good stuff was there, Carpenter's direction/score, Russell's awesome Burton, Catrall's sexiness .

I just don't get this, burton was such an Everyman it was believable he was wrapped up in crazy **** and had no idea what to do

I like the rock but unless he's gonna lose a load of muscle mass he's gonna look too much like an action star for a movie like this

I also recently revisited this film last week in the wake of the remake nonsense. This movie was a big part of my childhood and still holds up incredibly well.

Such a fun movie.
