Black Panther: Wakanda Forever General Discussion and Speculation Thread

We'll see what their game plan is.

So....I wonder when they'll reveal if they recast or not. This is gonna get messy either way.

This is definitely an unexpected development. Marvel must have already made their decision on how to proceed.

As for Huerta, I'm not sure. Initially, I didn't think Doom or Namor fit, but I'm starting to see the latter a bit.

His English is perfectly understandable to me, having never heard him speak before and listening on a different tab (so not using the subtitles):

It would actually be nice to hear different combinations of accents onscreen. Adds a little to the more global feel of the stories. Any [non-Namor] guesses as to who he could be playing, assuming he's a human character?

If they're expanding Shuri's role in the story and they won't be trying to CGI Boseman "back to life", I've taken to assume that this means they're just gonna keep T'Challa somewhat out of things for the time being, maybe if he does appear recasted it'll be as a post-credit scene or something from an alternate universe. After WandaVision, Multiverse of Madness and possibly even Ant-Man 3 having aired by then, (as well as whatever Disney+ plus series premiere that might further mess up the multiverse, like Loki), I feel there might be enough craziness for audiences to be more susceptible for an alt-universe T'Challa to more easily get people to stomach the recast. I dunno, we'll definitely see.

I don’t think expanding Shuri's story says anything one way or the other. She easily could have had a more important storyline in the movie even with Boseman returning had tragedy not occurred. Happy Hogan for example did little in Iron Man, but was far more prominent in Iron Man 2.

Could they make Shuri the main character? Sure. But I don't think we have enough actual information to make that call yet. It could go either way

True, fair point. That's just my hunch anyway; I just can't see them charging forward with a new T'Challa front and center, but like I said, we'll definitely see. I'm here for Wakanda on the whole either way, so I'll be there regardless on opening day. Can't say that for others though; I know some friends who've pretty much lost interest in the prospect of sequels sans Chadwick. They're fine just leaving the story on that last happy shot in Wakanda at the end of Endgame, which certainly isn't a bad ending.

His English isn't bad. It also doesn't hurt that the Narcos Mexico cast also has a lot of actors who can speak English.

I'm sure Letitia will make it out of the other side of this just fine. But it could be seen as PR headache and possible attention grabber from Disney brass (not based on her beliefs, but based on how much traction it gets and public response)

Well this film is now trending on Twitter for the wrong reasons. :hehe:

Yeah i just saw it, yikes.
Dont know what has gotten to her, was she always bonkers?

Oof.

She seems to be a hardcore Christian. Last month she tweeted something about the "antichrist agenda"...

She is a devout Christian and while there's nothing automatically wrong with that, hers seems to come with some loony anti-science beliefs.

Meh. Give it a few days. The Twitter-verse will largely forget about it, if they haven't already.

It wasn't just "anti-science" apparently the vid she linked to also contained trans-phobic and anti gay messages .
The vid has been removed but others have tweeted those clips to show it wasn't just one thing.

Well that just comes with the territory, particularly (unfortunately) in black circles. I've seen plenty of it, particularly in the social climate of 2020 what with the pandemic and everyone who failed high school science suddenly becoming an epidemiologist. I don't know what the anti-gay part of that clip is (I'll assume there's more to it) but that might make this whole thing doubly ironic because unless I have this wrong, Wright herself has played a lesbian character before.

None of this actually particularly surprising to me though, given the way I've heard Wright go on in interviews about her faith -- to the point where I've seen articles from Christian outlets being written about how more secular interviewers and other publications will cut short the parts where she gets really deep and rambly about it.

All that said, if Marvel's keeping around Chris Pratt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, and James Gunn, with all their controversial baggage, to get rid of Letitia Wright over this would definitely be a hypocritical move and I don't see them doing it. The memes being made of this are very funny though, and the whole luciferase connection that I've been seeing come up in these (black) Christian conspiracy circles never fails to make me laugh.

At least she has Gina Carano's support

Despite all it would actually be incredible to see them on screen together.
Angel Dust & Shuri team-up!

Listen.

If James Gunn can keep doing his movies after writing those despicable and obscene Tweets about sex with little kids that people wrote off as jokes, then Wright better keep her job even if she posted some silly sh**. Like you said it would be very hypocritical on Disney’s part.

Disney isn't cutting her over this. Its not big enough no matter how loud the internet gets. I dont agree with her, and she should be very careful how she uses her platform given she is a certified user and celebrity but I don't see her losing out on this gig over it. She's not even the headliner of the film or franchise (at least not yet)

Welp...no recasting. T'Challa is also officially gone as well.
