Blue Ambitions: The Beast & Mystique X3 Thread

how did you get yours to line up so perfectly??
  • I copied and pasted half of Rebecca's face onto the Mystique poster.
  • Then I rotated/scaled it to the right angle/size
  • Then I used the "liquify effect to match up the lips
  • After that,I changed the hue/saturation on Rebecca's purple make-up so that it would look like she wasn't wearing it.
  • There was still some of Mystique's face showing on the right,so I colored it black so that it would blend in with the black background.

March 17, 2006 - You've been waiting to see it: Beast in action. Without question, it's one of the more guarded elements of X-Men: The Last Stand. But, on May 26th, when you do finally get to see the blue man throw down against Magneto's onslaught, producer David Gorder promises, "It'll blow your mind."

"Fans of the comic know that he can fight pretty well," says Kelesy Grammer, the man under the make-up. "His physical prowess should, I think, surprise and delight the audience."

Grammer, however, is quick to point out that jumping into action is the last option for Beast. "He's doing his best not to have to resort to violence or to enter any kind of a physical confrontation. He believes that diplomacy is the best way to way to work, until things come to a head. And then there's only one answer, and that's to stand shoulder to shoulder with his comrades and fight against a clear danger."

What we can tell you about the story is: Beast gives his all to open a dialogue with all mutants, and political leaders. The impending release of a drug that might nullify all mutant abilities has, as you might guess, a lot of people up in arms. Magento, of course, wants to get his hands on the vaccine, and it's source, and use it for his own warped purposes. "I deal with Magneto," says Grammer, "and I deal with a character called Calisto. I can't divulge too much, but [Beast] will do his best to do the world some good in whatever capacity he can find."

But (and this is no surprise) when diplomacy breaks down and Beast goes into action, it won't just be about throwing Juggernaut though a concrete wall: it'll be fun and games, too. And why shouldn't it? Hank McCoy has a sense of humor, right? "By virtue of [Beast's] ability to be ironic, I think it may be as high comedy as we get," says Grammer. "He's a cheerful fellow, and certainly fun in battle. So, I think we've got a little room in there to actually to have a bit of comic relief. Just within the context of the big fight."

So, how will Beast's ass-kicking translate from the comic book page to the movie screen? Gorder says their stylistic decision was to stay away from a cat-like beast, which would have made the character "a little bit too unbelievable." Instead, the filmmakers opted for a more human form upon which to display Beast's talents. "You want to use Beast's talents. He has skillful fighting moves. So you can imagine the stunts we're going to do there. We're going to exploit that as much as we can."

"Beast in the books is very agile," says visual effects supervisor John Bruno. "So, we'll be adding some moves based on the style that's described in the comic books, and that will be digital." If his creative team has any questions about their digital stunt version of Beast, Bruno says, they'll go right to Marvel and Kevin Feige. "We'll run it by Marvel and by him, and they'll get information to us. We're constantly in the loop."

As the filmmakers are now editing The Last Stand's final battle, it may in fact not be Beast's final battle. "I think he's somebody that we're going to want to see back in future sequels," says Gorder. "I mean, you could almost do a Beast sequel on it's own, because he's got such an interesting story."

We've got more X3 coverage on the way, so keep watching IGN FilmForce!

Good article Wingfan

I like the fact that Beast will have a sense of humour in these films (unlike Iceman) as it's an important part of his character. Also, it looks like they're going all out to show his super agility properly which is another great sign.

Same here. I noticed they only use the Phoenix/Wolverine/Storm posters so maybe they are aware...

beast vs juggernaut?

Nice pic.:up: I'd like to see that in the movie. It would be one of the unexpected fights for sure. The writers need to give us unexpected fights. :o Like Storm/Magneto, Beast/Juggernaut, Mystique/Beast or Phoenix/Magneto.

How long will that last though?! I reckon we're in the eye of the Storm now for a few weeks and then BAM, it happens again! I'm gonna have to force myself to stay off here come May though, got big final exams, gotta focus, then I'm off to Australia and AMERICA(I'll be in San Fran, wohooo!!) for summer so won't be around. Hopefully by May 26th I should be finished my exams and I'll be here for a week before I head off, CAN'T WAIT!

Well. Are you coming to Sydney - might I be afforded the opportunity to showcase you with spectacular sights of the landmarks and my know-how...? :D

How long will you tour during the break?

You're Irish; bet St. Patrick's Day is astronomical in your motherland. It's pretty big here; coupled with the jingoistic propensity for inebriation, and the heartfelt Irish sentiment, it has been history-in-the-making...!

triple agr - Yeh they definitely deserve their own

Everyone elses has one

He'll use his head obviously. Beast would be much more of a cerebral fighter. He wouldn't go toe to toe with the Juggernaut but he would use whatever he could. Perhaps martial arts? Juggernaut is unstoppable so Beast could use his momentum against him.

Beast probably wouldn't be able to take him out fully but, with this agility, he could avoid taking much damage. Juggernaut is all brawn whil Beast is a balance of the two.

Exactly. Though he couldn't do much damage to him he could lead him into a trap.

Has there been any speculation as to how Beast and Callisto interact (ie. what scenes they both share)? Grammar loves to bring that up everytime he gets interviewed.

I don't blame Grammer for wanting to interact with Ms Ramirez. ;)

They could have a pretty straight melee fight as they don't really have ranged powers or appendages. I want to see a few more Colossus Vs Juggernaut style close range fights.

Beast could be the one to take Callisto's eye out...
