Boston Marathon Terror Attack - Part 2

There will be several movies made of varying quality and lots of book deals, I'm sure.

Also, I've gotta say, and you know I hate to say it. But honestly, this would be a hit movie if it was made. So much of this is so surreal it's like wow. FBI releasing images of suspects, shootouts wih police and tossing explosives, younger brother running over his older brother to escape, man going out for a cigarette notices blood on his boat and discovers the suspect (I wonder how long he was there btw), then another shootout that I am seriously AMAZED he wasn't killed in considering all the gunfire I heard in those cell phone vids (that dude's boat must be f***ed), and now we're discovering some possible terrorist connections. I truly do feel for the victims and all the stress/trauma those cities had to deal with and I hate saying this out loud but this was like a film unfolding in front of us and had to be the biggest event since 9/11.
I've never seen the movie, but for most of the day, I kept thinking about The Fugitive. I know that was more about an innocent guy escaping the cops because he was falsely accused, but just the whole manhunt aspect of it seemed the same.

I also feel like I've gotten to know a lot of new people in here too, so that's a plus.

I think it's time for a group hug.

I don't think that's accurate at all. Most Muslims don't think the Muslim terrorists are truly Muslim, in the sense that Christians don't believe the WBC is truly Christian. It's not about misidentification on the accusers part, but the religion's majority pointing out that the terrorists are following a poisoned version of the religion.

Check this out.

The idea that 9/11 was carried out by America or Israel is pretty widespread in the Middle East. I can find other polls if you would like. I recall reading a few polls that majority of Muslims in America believe that 9/11 wasn't carried out by Muslims. Now, maybe they were arguing ideology like you said, but with this study at least, that clearly isn't the case.

Justice is served. Couldn't help but think of this tonight:

Here we go:

Relatively few Muslim Americans believe the U.S.-led war on terror is a sincere effort to reduce terrorism, and many doubt that Arabs were responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Just 40% of Muslim Americans say groups of Arabs carried out those attacks.

So, make of that what you will.

Same here :highfive:

Someone mentioned it earlier, but kudos to everyone who worked to keep this thread as informative and accurate as possible. I always try to stay away from threads that have any kind of political or religious debates because those are two topics I don't like to get into, and even though there have been times where it seemed like that was where we were headed, I'm glad that people still managed to stay on track and coming here to talk and find out information definitely added to the experience.

You also have that missing Boston student as well. I feel really bad about that as well. I mean, what are the odds these kids would have such a close resemblance? That family is such a wreck I bet :(

I think you misunderstand the article you posted. First off, the survey it references did not poll Muslim Americans, it only polled people from Arab countries. Secondly, the poll did not ask if they believed Muslims were behind the attacks; it asked if they believed Arabs were, which is a very important distinction; the term "Arab" does not mean "Muslim", it simply refers to people from countries within/near the Arabian Peninsula. "Arab" has no more to do with religion than "Asian" does.

Yeah, there were several people who were falsely accused, but the kid from Brown is really sad because the family has been looking for him for about a month, then word comes out that he might be a terrorist, and then it turns out it wasn't him, which means he's probably dead somewhere. Although I haven't fully followed his story so I don't know where he was last seen or what caused his disappearance. But definitely sad indeed.

Are you deliberately missing the point?

Read in between the lines. Do you seriously think they're arguing that they're not Arabs, but Muslims from some other non-Arab country?

Also what part of "40% Muslim Americans" do you not understand?

Normally I'd be glued to this stuff, but I was really busy with wedding stuff! Man, will be a crazy thing to catch up with!

One of my cousins flew in from Boston this morning. She arrived at the airport by taxi, just as they shut down the taxi service. So I wasn't surprised she had a couple of glasses of wine tonight! Her brother noted that it was unusual for her, but IMO she deserved it!

I'm digging your new locks by the way :oldrazz:

Look, I'm not even going into whether or not 9/11 was this or that. I am simply stating the fact that many (apparently most) Muslims do not believe that the attacks were carried out by the perpetrators the United States holds responsible. That's it.

Whether or not Muslims (authentic or inauthentic), Jews, or the American government was behind it, is irrelevant.

I found this thread to be more informative and reliable than CNN. I thank whoever provided the live news and scanner links. That was very helpful. It's nice this thread didn't derail into numerous debates.

He's not missing the point. The Pew Survey you posted polled Muslims in Egypt, Turkey, the Palestinian territories, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel, Indonesia and Pakistan.

Read

Responsibility for 9/11 Attacks
Asked whether they believe groups of Arabs carried out the attacks against the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, 40% of Muslim Americans say yes, while 28% say they do not believe this, and about a third (32%) say they do not know or decline to answer the question.

My second post was referring a separate poll. Hence why it said "Muslim Americans".

Or you know, use google, instead of me having to explain what I assumed were fairly uncontroversial statistics to you.

Okay, then. Though it's fair to say that a plurality of Muslim Americans believe Arabs were responsible for 9/11. The percentage that actively doubt is much smaller.

You're the one who made the assertion. I won't do your work for you.

One other thought: I wonder if there's a difference in opinion between Muslims born in America vs those born abroad who moved here.

Hell, at this point, I'm doubtful a plurality of Americans period believe the official story.

Man today was wild. Thanks everybody for being cool during it all. Most of the disagreements/arguments lasted a few posts at the most. In Boston we conquered terrorism. Here on SHH we conquered the urge to bicker like little dummies.

Good show all!

It's been pretty free of anger and stupidity, surprisingly. I've only checked in from time to time but it never seemed to devolve into the usual internet foolishness.

Are you getting married? Congratulations!

Yea this thread has been exceedingly more reliable of a source of information than any tv news outlet. I really appreciate everybody trying to keep each other adequately informed and for not getting off topic or into dumb arguments. We all are some classy mother****ers. Hugs all around!
