Bought and Though: Roughneck Edition (aka May 24th)

No, not really. Certainly not as good as Immomen, at least.

LOL

I didn't know that book was funny.

I gotta get it.

Glad to hear. You can pick up #5 without having read the previous issues. The series is told in 2-issue storyarcs, so it's easy to jump onto

NextWave is what people have been asking for, a comic that does more in two issues then what Bendis can accomplish in two years worth of stories.

I don't get it? We finally get a Marvel book (along with Thing & She-Hulk) that is continuity heavy and tells a full arc in two issues or less and is totally easy to jump on too and fanboys still complain.

What does it take!!? I mean when was the last time anyone used or gave a crap about Machineman?!! NextWave is the book I've been waiting for and I'm gonna keep on enjoying it.

Persoanlly, I havent bothered picking it up because I read an interview what Ellis had planned for some of the characters and how he was going to chnage them. Im not down for changing characters just because you dont like them.

I read the first two issues of NEXTWAVE and while I'll be the first to admit it had a few laugh-out-loud gags, it was completely without any soul or sense. The cast of characters, all C-Listers who once were serious, somewhat interesting characters are stereotypical cyphers who exist solely for gags and "psuedo humorous European jargon", sort of like MONTY PYTHON (which, despite the myths, could be tedious almost as often as it was tear-jerkingly hilarious). Photon? One of the few African American heroines who has a decent power level and moderate accomplishments who now will NEVER be treated seriously anywhere again. You could say the same for Machine Man (who never called anyone a "fleshy one" before), or Ms. Bloodstone, or whatever.

Maybe before Slott, I would have been satisfied by gags alone (because NEXTWAVE can be funny -- the stuff with Dirk Anger was hilarious until you remember that Ellis originally wanted that to be Nick Fury, and for some reason Joe "Continuity goes by the wayside for a Good Story, even though stories that abandon continuity are almost always bad" Q showed some integrity for a character (who wasn't in a top 10 selling book) and refused Ellis to use him). But after stuff like SPIDER-MAN/HUMAN TORCH, GLA and THE THING, I saw that a "funny" book could also have heart, embrace the characters and portray them seriously, while STILL being funny as hell. After that, "fast food funnybooks" like NEXTWAVE weren't worth $3 a month to me.

NEXTWAVE is an aquired taste. If you like the sort of over the top, pointless gags of AQUA TEAM HUNGER FORCE, you may like NEXTWAVE. Me? Its randomly hilarious, but empty, and I rarely pay money for empty books.

Wow, exactly how i feel about the book.

I love Aqua team hunger force.

I have all the seasons that came out on DVD.

If Nextwaves like that, then I'm getting every issue.

She Hulk Number 8- First off I Hated this book. I am not regular reader and picked it up only for civil war and new Warriors crossovers. Lets eliminate the fact that the book played out like a bad TV legal thriller, and let me see how much i see marvel characters behaving utterly out of character. Jen disses captain america.Iron man disses a former teammate when he says Jen helped Starfox "get away" with sexual asssault (actually dissing 2 ex-teamates). This just isnt comics to me. If some of you like it and praise it as genius , fine so be it. As for me i'd rather tune into old matlock episodes.

New Avengers 19- A a very good issue. Not good enough to for me to croon over the book , so dont expect that. Once again I have my issues with character depictions. So spidey says "House of M" and Shield drops what they are doing and attacks him. Pretty stupid IMO. I'd think SHIELD would have a little more respect for these heroes IMO, especially Captain America. BTW these new SHIELD super powered agents are also stupid. No real reason here, i just find them stupid. Now if you want to say its this New Leader of Shield OK, but wouldnt the powers that be have a little more tact than to put this woman in charge of SHIELD?? I just dont buy it.

LAST PLANET STANDING 2- A fun comic. I really enjoy this kind of stuff. Except of course Asgard going down and Nova , a big gun in MC2 , going down so easy. I hope Nova isnt dead. This is the Marvel universe i grew up on. I love the Kirby inspired new herald Dominas look.

Exiles 81- Good as per usual. I can't wait to see how this sucker gets resolved. If they kill off morph, I may be very very upset.

52 week 3- Yes this series is going to be a marathon of comics. but this was the first issue that reminded me that "should" be the case. It was ok, but I'd like to see more characters come into the fold quickly.

Secret six 1- This comic really has my hopes high. Yes as Dread said ,the Art was at best "servicable". But the story was good, the characters rich, and the plot directions have great potential. Plus I always like to see North koreans getting beat up in my funnybooks.

SOme older stuff i bought

Moon Knight 2- Meh..This would have been great 5 years ago , as a break from the traditional superhero books. Its still playing out too Spawn/Batman/Image like for me to hang in for the long haul. The art is superb. The plot is slow and prententious. Count me out.

my 2 cents!

Id argue that theyve been written out of character for so long that when a writer like Dan Slott comes on and writes them in character we forget what the characters were like before other writers messed them up. Thats just me.

I like NextWave regardless, I can pick any issue and not be lost or read 22 pages of 'Bendis talk' things actually happen in NextWave, you get 22 pages of full story and action.

Yeah it takes liberties with it's continuity and characters, but ya know what? I don't have to commit to 12 issues of crap and inaction or talking heads of story that Stan Lee could have done in three issues tops.

I never have to worry about spending $3.00 freaking dollars on 22 pages of pin-up art or wordy exposition or 6-issues of Spider-man and Luke Cage having a conversation about bagels and cream cheese..or whatever, I have to spend over $18.00 on a story arc that could have been a 'done in one' and still only actual action that is drawn off-panel cause "it's so cool how badass the walking fire guy is."

I'll take NextWave and books like She-Hulk any day over written for the trade comics.

Darth that is spot on!

Dan Slott knows these characters, make no mistake about that. These newcomers who read these books only because they've seen the movie or cartoon are clueless.

She dissed him because stuff is going on witn her personality, she's more aggressive as She-Hulk now. As Jen Walters she's against registration but as She-Hulk she's for it.

And from the what you've said, I'm getting the impression that you're probably not a comics fan, you're a superhero fan. When you say "This just isn't comics to me" and compare the book to Matlock, that's like saying "This just isn't movies to me" after watching Shakespeare in Love because it doesn't have any explosions in it.

I didnt get it but let me get this straight. In FF Death in the Family
Someone dies, but is resurrected in the same issue?
