Bought/Thought February 4, 2009 - SPOILERS

Morrison actually writes Jean as being happy that Scott is "living" with the mistress he cheated with her on, and is about to practically jump her on her tomb.

Morrison once gave an interview where he claimed he wrote Jean as his ex and Frost as his new lover. Can anyone tell? :p
Well, the Phoenix was supposed to be perplexed by emotion. Maybe it doesn't understand jealousy.

The same Phoenix that understood jealousy quite well during the Dark Phoenix saga?

No, I just think despite all of Morrison's talents, he still has the same petty teenage boy opinion of women that most of us guys do, which is usually why so many superhero relationships are F'd up. It was a bit of power fantasy for him.

On an unrelated note, I finally posted a long as hell review of HULK VS.

I'm gonna get that in about a week. It finally became available through Netflix, but I've already got the last disc of Jekyll on the way because I watched the rest of the series through the Watch Instantly thing and it was f***ing addictive. The last two episodes are only available on disc, though.

There's one obvious thing about HULK VS. THOR you won't like, but hopefully the rest of the story will entertain you.

Let me guess: Thor gets owned? I'm already used to the idea that he'll lose pretty spectacularly.

Not completely owned. He fares the best against Hulk than anyone else in Asgard. But, yeah, the film's writers are clearly not as experienced with Thor as they are with Wolverine. They're not used to JLU style action so the fight mostly consists of, "Thor lands a good combo/attack, is stunned that Hulk survived, gets pummeled for 5-10 straight minutes".

Considering the lack of much Thor animated material, though, this is probably Thor's best animated feature ever, though. It has more of a story than HULK VS. WOLVERINE and is like a Thor Lore Primer.

I'm not gonna read the spoiler. I try to keep myself as unspoiled as possible for movies. Maybe I'll come back and read it in a week. :)

Cool.

HULK VS. is seriously very good, and I often am hard on animation. Made for the fans more so than the last few Marvel DTV's.

Ugh, don't get me started on that lack of imagination. The irony is that flick handled Ultron 90% well, they just didn't give him decent heroes to fight. The moral of that flick was totally messed up.

"It is important to embrace your parents' heroic legacy and honor their demise by taking on their enemy. Unless you can trick the Hulk into beating said enemy for you. Then do that."

The more I learn about the Phoenix Force, the more I absolutely f***ing hate it.

Well, considering that this Jean had been collecting herself in the White Hot Room for about a century at that point and witnessed the doomsday future that would occur if Scott didn't allow himself to move on, I'd say her choice was understandable.

The Jean that would be jealous would be the Dark Phoenix. And this was the White Phoenix, the perfect blend of Jean's humanity and the cosmic duty of the P. Force.

And come on, more to the point, y'know that if Scott ever died, Jean would be ****ing Logan up and down the stairs.

1). Jean has swapped spit with Logan a few times without Scott being dead.
2). She probably wouldn't have done it on Scott's grave. That's just not classy. :p

There's wanting Scott to move on, and there's saying, "Can you PLEASE not give her a ****ing hicky over my grave before the dirt is even dry?" ;)

But again, that was HER idea.:oldrazz: In the original timeline, Scott turned away and as Brian said, apocalypse occured, etc. It was Jean who telepathically (and through time) gave Scott the idea of giving her a hicky over the grave.

I've wished Scott and Jean could have been happy and in love ever since I've read X-Men and its pretty clear by now sadly that it will never happen. I've always felt that if these 2 people were real they'd be in a relationship that nothing could ever come between. I guess the writers never felt that way.

Then Jean is ****ed up. No woman, ever, would WANT their husband to make out with their mistress ON THEIR GRAVE. Of ANY species. Morrison can be loopy sometimes. Grand on ideas but sometimes hit or miss on the smaller details.

Unless Jean is a necrophiliac, which is also all kinds of wrong.

To be fair, Jean is an awkward character. She began as "token girl" of the X-Men and really had little variation for that besides, "I love Scott" and then the Phoenix came along to define her, but that is basically a cosmic PMS tantrum most of the time. It was fun the first few times but by now is repetitive and usually makes me tired of Jean. Frost for all of her faults has proven more interesting.

That said, Marvel doesn't do happy couples. Several EIC's across 30 years have almost made it a personal mission to keep Peter Parker a bachelor, whether it means murder, two "the girl is just PSYCHO!" revelations in a row, and now demonic annulments. Some call it lazy writing, others call it MOONLIGHTING syndrome (the chase is always more dramatic than the "catch"), but whatever it is, it exists and it is why couples in comics, and in many stories, are ****'d up.

Granted, that happens in real life, too. People are just crazy sometimes. :p

She could've at least been like, "Hey, pervs, keep it off my f***ing grave, at least." There's moving on and then there's just weird.

I do agree on her being an awkward character all than can really ever do with her now is make her die and return I mean just wait till Hope becomes dark phoenix.

While not a woman, I'd do it if it SAVES THE WORLD! In the original timeline, at that moment, at Jean's grave, Scott decided, "No, I'm going to go be by myself, Wolverine and the X-Men style and mope about Jean's death..." And with that, Beast became Headmaster, thus leading to Sublime's rise to power. By turning to Emma and kissing her (passionately, but not "making out," he kisses her to say yes), they become Headmasters and Sublime's plan fails. The grave site was just where Scott happened to be that moment he decided not to become Headmaster.

Plus, I could write a whole essay on how that volume and that scene (someone else's done how the whole book is...) is a metaphor for what Morrison wanted for X-Men comics. For the continual death/resurrection of Jean to be forgotten and for Scott to embrace the future, like Marvel should've done... Alas... instead we get...:cmad:

Seriously, when's Tony gonna get the point? First Thor kicks Tony's black ass up and down in Thor #3, then he tells tony to **** off in Invincible Ironman #2 and then in SI 8 and tells tony "seriously **** off." lol. Poor tony.

"black ass"?

Agents of Atlas was pretty good. Gotta love Pags' art.

Magneto Testament ended up being a pretty incredible read but the ending just leaves you wanting more I think.

Deadpool has remained consistently good so far so it looks like Daniel Way found a character besides Bullseye that he's pretty good at writing.

"black ass"?
I wondered about that too. But I didn't want to say anything, because I'm certainly no font of Marvel knowledge. "Who knows?" I said to myself. "Maybe Tony Stark is like black, but has a pigmentation condition. Or maybe kgillou is just astonishingly racist, and uses 'black' as a pejorative. Either way, I imagine the truth will reveal itself," I concluded to myself.
